Mr. Bonnell, I know there is trade talk. Here is a scenario that I thought of and I was wondering based on your knowledge of the situation, how likely it could be? I think Portland wants to get Conley to pair with Oden, so what if we offered the #8 pick (Conley could fall that far) for LaMarcus Aldridge? Given Portland's roster, they could make due without him and he would be a nice fit down-low with Okafor. He had an insane game against us last year. Please let me know what you think.

If they are available, the Bobcats should select, in this order:
1) Yi Jianlian -- big man who can score
2) Corey Brewer -- replacement for or to pair with Gerarld Wallace.
3) Spencer Hawes -- see Yi.
4) Julian Wright -- see Brewer.
STAY AWAY FROM:
Joakim Noah & Jeff Green...period.
The best case scenario would be to:
1) Re-sign Wallace
2) Trade No. 8 to Phoenix for Shawn Marion (assuming it works under the cap)
3) Pick a big, front-court player with the 22 pick (or a back-up point guard).
Line-up would then be:
PG Felton
SG Wallace
SF Marion
PF Okafor
C Brezec
Bench:
PG Brevin Knight
SG Matt Carroll
SF Walter Hermann
SF Adam Morrison
PF May
C Voskuhl
No. 22 Pick
To round out he roster:
Ryan Hollins
Alan Anderson
Whoever
The team would easily have a 8-10 game improvement and challenge Nets, Magic and Wizards for 6 though 8 spots in the East.
See MJ, it isn't that hard. Bernie has already laid the ground work.

Steve - there are no cap implications; Phoenix can trade at will with Charlotte

So, draftexpress.com reports that the Nets want Sean May and are offering Bostjan Nachbar and 17 for him. Wouldn't this be very smart to go after. Sean May hasn't played a full season and rumors say that he has a drinking problem. Nachbar had a pretty good year last year and he can shoot. 17 could net us a really good player seeing how deep this draft is. We could probably trade 8 after this deal and keep the rest of the rest of the picks.

Mr. Bonnell, why do you sucketh so?

I certainly hope the Cats can resign Wallace, Carroll, and Herrmann. And still have enough to extend Okafor and Felton.
I predict this year Morrison and Felton will improve their shooting woes. Sean May will drop 10, and average a double/double.
Adding Marion, who entered the draft in 1997, (I think), would improve the team greatly in the short run.
PG-Felton Brevin Knight
SG-Carroll Derrick Anderson/Morrison
SF-Wallace Herrmann
PF-Marion May
C- Okafor Primo/Vos
If we don't do a trade for a veteran player, my choice for the 8th pick would be(sorry Steve), Noah and Morris Almond/Rudy Fernandez with the 22. JN brings energy, defense, rebounding, shot blocking, passing, character, put backs, dunks, filling the lane, ball handling skills of a former point guard, and unselfishness. Who wouldn't want that? Plus, if EO goes down, our season doesn't go with him.
If the 76ers, BK, wanted to trade their 12,21, and 30th picks for our 8 and 22, I would consider it.
In that case:
12-Nick Young or Correy Brewer
21-Morris Almond or Belinelli-Fernandez
30- BPA-Dudley, Nick Fazekas, P Kopponen
Either way, the Cats have more talent and depth, to sustain and prevail through their annual injury bug. They realistically have a shot at 40 to 42 wins!! That would put them in the hunt for the playoffs next year.

ESPN has been reporting for nearly an entire day that we are close to trading our first pick in the draft to Phoenix, according to "multiple sources," and there is not one word about it in the Observer? Instead, on the day before the draft, we are greeted this morning by the "bombshell" news that Gerald Wallace is going to opt out of his contract and become a free agent, which any fan with a pulse has known for months.
I realize that rumors fly before the draft, and it is unwise--and probably impossible--to give them all credence by publishing them in the paper, but this one seems to have legs, and is a major story this morning on the ESPN website. Is it too much to ask that our local paper and beat writer give fans SOMETHING, or at least discredit the rumor?

dougie, do you have a link for that sean may story? i can't seem to find it on there.

Okay, I am an admiited Tar Heels fan so some may interpret this with bias. Sean May still has the chance to be an extremely solid pro (and a great third big man). He has lost a huge amount of weight in the last 4 years and has some of the best hands of any big man in the league. He has long arms (which make up somewhat for what he lacks in height), a nose for the ball, and a feathery touch. He may be one of those guys who never gets his career going because of chronic injuries but if he can stay healthy for an entire season I think he could be a solid 15 and 10 guy with more steals and assists than 90% of the league's PFs. He's too young (and cheap) to give up on at this point.
I'm still convinced that the only way the 'Cats can improve from the free agency/trade route is to land a scoring two-guard (in the mold of Ray Allen or Jason Richardson- but not Vince Carter) and/or to land a defensive minded center. We can potentially cover those bases in the draft but quality veterans have the potential to propel the Cats into the upper half of the Eastern Conference playoff picture.
Finally and most important, resign and extend Wallace, Okafor and Felton (I like Carrol but he's not the answer as a starting two-guard- great off the bench talent). If the team sacrifices these three for the benefit of R. Lewis or Z. Randolph then we're screwed.

I dont see any real value in us trading with the Suns...their paper mentioned Kurt Thomas and their pick in the 20's. I personally wouldnt take Marion and the 24th for the 8th, if it were my choice. The rumor I like better is taking Philidelphia's 12th and their 2 picks in the 20's for the 8th. I know we are high on Thornton and Young...who would likely be there at 12...and we can give ourselves some solid depth with the later picks. I know there is a rush to get better, but I dont see how Kurt Thomas could get us better faster...and I would probably sell my season tickets if we made that move.

I think that Raymond Felton's best games came when he was playing the two guard position and he is not really a break you down off of the dribble type of guard. I would love to take a chance on Mike Conley if he falls to 8. In order of need the players that the Bobcats should covet are:
(No Greg Oden because I like OKAFOR at CENTER)
Kevin Durant
Al Horford
Those two are unattainable.
Who knows how the rest of the draft will go?
Mike Conley
Jeff Green
Corey Brewer
Yi Jianlian
Acie Law
Javaris Crittenton
I might trade down and get Acie Law to go in the backcourt with Felton.
With the second pick I would trade down and grab Glen "Big Baby" Davis at Power Forward. Then you might be able to deal May.
Then I would re-sign Wallace or go after Rashard Lewis. Would Chauncey Billups sign with Charlotte?

You know, honestly, it strikes me that at some point this team needs a marquee-type veteran who could compete for All-Star teams. Yes, draft picks can turn into those...EVENTUALLY. If we had a chance--ANY CHANCE--to get as dynamic a player as Shawn Marion given the impact he makes on a night-to-night basis, I would jump at it.

Rick --
I assume that this is where we are supposed to post our questions for this afternoon's live chat.
The two main trades available to the Bobcats (as reported on multiple websites) are the deal with Phoenix and a deal with Golden State where they send Monta Ellis and the #18 for the Bobcat's #8. Do you think that either of these deals would be better than staying put at #8? Also, if they do make one of these two trades, who do you see the Bobcats drafting with the newly acquired picks (#18 from GS, or #24 and #29 from PHO)?
Personally, I feel that Charlotte should stay put at #8, unless they can acquire a veteran who is an established scorer and go-to guy. I might would bite on Shawn Marion, but not sure Monta Ellis is the guy.
