Knight not hurt by Bobcats' move

Assuming both seasons of Brevin Knight’s contract are guaranteed, he suffered minimal financial damage by being waived by the Charlotte Bobcats.

Knight was scheduled to make over $4 million this season with the Bobcats, but the team had the option to terminate that season by paying a $1.5 million buyout. They did, and Knight went on the open market, reportedly agreeing to a two-year deal with the Los Angeles Clippers, worth $2 million per season.

That means Knight will make less this season (a net $3.5 million between the Bobcats and Clippers), but he will get another season of what I presume to be guaranteed money. The Clippers always seemed a logical destination, considering Shaun Livingston’s devastating knee injury. The Clippers needed immediate help at the point, alongside Sam Cassell, after another ex-Bobcat, Jason Hart, left the Clippers for the Utah Jazz.

The Bobcats still were open to bringing back Knight, but now that option is gone. They need help behind Raymond Felton, and I question whether anyone replacing Knight in that role will be better than what he would have delivered.

I still dont understand the logic of waiving Knight in the first place except to free up some space.

Atta boy Rick, keep talking about the past that NONE of us care about! Hey, did you hear we signed Gerald Wallace?

You SUCK Bonnell!

Posted by: CHillyDoggy | Aug 5, 2007 7:03:22 PM

Rick, I'm glad you've updated and are at least making an honest effort to keep us Bobcats fans updated.

As of right now, we have no one signed to play behind Felton. Derek Anderson is still a FA, along with McInnis. The front office needs to get off the golf course and finish filling out that roster.

We need to get rid of Sean May, Othella Harrington and Adam Morrison and get some guys that will actually contribute.

Has Jared Dudley even been signed yet?

Well, BK may not have been hurt by the move but the Cats sure have been hurt. And for BK, if the Cats had kept him then he would have likely been on a playoff bound team. I hope that BK kicks ass on the Clippers team and makes MJ and the his other airheads think at least twice before making any other downright stupid moves.

Rick, What are you going to write about now that Knight is gone?

Posted by: Dave | Aug 5, 2007 10:43:08 PM

Maybe jordan can come out of retirement for the 8 time. I doubt he will now that the crooked ref is gone. Is that the same ref that would never call Jordan for the 6th foul, or call him for walking.

kevin-How can you say black everytime when BREVIN KNIGHT is black and they cut him and kept Matt Carroll. Everyone is calling for them to cut Adam Morrison, but if they did you would say they were racist. Come on people this is getting old. GO BOBCATS!

It doesn't matter what they do some people just hate the fact that a black man owns the team and that is the bottom line. They could have an all white team and the fact that Bob Johnson owns the team you would still hate them. GO BOBCATS! GO BOBCATS! GO PANTHERS! GO KINIGHTS! GO CHECKERS! GO CHARLOTTE!

MAN I MISS MY HOMETOWN! HAVE A GOOD DAY PEOPLE.

Jeff McInnis would be a good seasoned pro to back up Felton. When both Felton and Knight were out with injuries McInnis did a great job. Lets bring in some players that can help us win.

Posted by: clarence johnson | Aug 6, 2007 11:05:58 AM

You get more assists with McInnis and more points with D. Anderson. A little better rebounding with D. Anderson. Im more concerned with the 4 and 5 spots and with can May stay healthy this year or not. He is good when he is in the game take last season before he got hurt; 50% from the floor, 66% (no typo)from 3 point land, 76% free throws, 6.7 rebounds a game, and 11.9 points a game. I say give him a chance to see if he can stay healthy or not. I think its too early to get rid of Morrison, but if we could grab another great player in a 2 for 1 trade (Morrison and May) Id have to really consider that.

Posted by: David | Aug 6, 2007 12:25:34 PM

Jeff McInnis is AWFUL...he should have been out of the league YEARS ago! And as for Sean May, I think Shaq might get lucky enough to go 66% from 3-point land for THREE shots! He'll never be healthy again, either.

Posted by: Michael Procton | Aug 6, 2007 12:35:53 PM

McInnis is a last option as a backup at the point. There are some really good guys who are still available through free agency (and probably not that expensive). In order of who I like...
1) Charlie Bell
2) Earl Boykins
3) Darryl Armstrong
4) Troy Hudson

And to address our lack of quality depth at the 4 and 5, trade Morrison to the Blazers for Joel Pryzbilla. If the 'Cats did that and then signed Darryl Armstrong to spell Felton, watchout.

Posted by: BustaCat | Aug 6, 2007 2:12:45 PM

I would be shocked and amazed if the Blazers did that. I wish they would, I'd just be shocked.

I don't know anything about those PG's, but anyone who is actually willing to be back up and not be a locker room cancer like Knight is rumored to be.

Doesn't anyone think that something must be wrong with Knight if they still didn't resign him after he said he'd take less money at a position of need? He must be a really bad fit for the Bcats.

But ChillyDogg does pose a nice question, what will Bonnell write about with Knight gone?

My guess is more of the same, i.e. nothing worthwhile.

Just can't let the guy move on....Plenty of stuff to write about with the Bobcats this summer gets no coverage, but the weekly BK tributes live on. He is gone for a reason and it serves NO (productive) purpose to continue obsessing over him.

"Darryl Armstrong to spell Felton, watchout"
You are kidding right? He is what 40 or awfully close to it.I love him like a step brother, but I think we should look a bit more. It would have been nice if he could have gotten here earlier. After all he is from Gastonia.

I CAN UNDERSTAND CRITICIZING BONNELL FOR HIS REPORTING, BUT IF YOU REALLY WANT BOBCATS NEWS THEN GO TO THEIR WEBSITE. They post signing and stories and have a blog as well which has info.

Hi, nice to see all the Bobcats employees continuing to try to keep prodding Rick into giving their team special coverage. I like the fact that you guys insist that the Observer to shill for you. ChillyDog, BustaCat, Bonnell=Greatest Reporter Ever! -- we can count on all of you guys to lobby hard for Bob Johnson and the Bobcats. Thanks for your dedicated service! Good luck with the PR campaign.

Everyone please quit defending me. I want to come clean. I am a black man who only wants to do business with other black people. The white executives I had have been weeded out. I have asked Rent-A-Jordan to come on board and try to get some of you southern people to like me. I must confess it is not working. Season ticket sales are at a all time low. No one outside of charlotte can watch any tv games. I doubled the ticket prices 2 years ago. I then tried giving some tickets away to black charities. I didn't give tickets away this past year, and you saw how many empty seats I had, including my seat. I did attend 3 games while my horse jumping event for my daughter was going on. By the way I only buy her black horses. Rent-A-Jordan has asked me to move the team to Vegas where he can bet legally on the games. Even with the crooked ref I was unable to buy anymore wins. I wish everyone would leave me alone and quit calling me a racist. Does it mean I am racist just because I only hire black people, and invest in black businesses, and make black movies, and black videos. Don't forget I am a rich black man who can be one if I want.

Bobcats Sign Jared Dudley

July 2, 2007

Posted by: David | Aug 6, 2007 11:43:40 PM

Wait, BJ, you gave tickets away to a charity? You're a horrible person!

You hire black people? Why are you so racist! White people need jobs more than black people and we have to be much more qualified so you must be racist for not hiring black people. Look at every other sports organization in the country, they only really hire white people so you, BJ, must be the racist.

You support entertainment for black people? Are you kidding me? don't you know you can only produce anything ever for white people? What about all those white people who have no voice in america? We don't ever have any movies made directly for us, I mean The Notebook, Larry the Cable Guy and anything with Adam Sandler has such wide appeal. You're a racist for not producing for, hiring from and giving to white people. How dare you!

Posted by: Bonnell=Greatest Reporter Ever! | Aug 7, 2007 9:47:40 AM

Yes, B=GRE:
I did give away thousands upon THOUSANDS of tickets which could have been sold at face value, then whined about how I wasn't making any money.

I do hire black people, but only after laying off every white person in the organization without cause or recourse to open up spots for them. You know I'm looking into resumes and giving everybody an equal opportunity once those spots open up, though. Just look at Mr. Jordan (I hope he lets me call him Michael soon) and his stellar track record as an executive prior to his stint here.

And as for my negro entertainment, I love making quality flicks like the critically acclaimed "Who's Your Caddy?" I think the "Get back at whitey" approach at comedy is both HILARIOUS and socially productive. I do wish it could make some money like The Notebook and Larry the Cable Guy though. I'm a little upset that my marketing people have let it show on less movie screens than that new Lindsay Lohan movie. Probably just the man keeping me down, though.

I sympathize BJ. What kind of animal are you for giving away tickets? And there is no reason at all to doubt the "thousands and thousands" remark or the idea that you fire white people because they're white and hire black people because they're black since you are Bob Johnson. You must know what all goes on.

What white people were fired again?

And I don't know what you were thinking to make a movie making fun of country club culture, one that is often stereotypically ultra conservative, hyper image conscious and generally one of the last bastions of racism in America. That's really not fair of you BJ, after all a lot of country clubs did just start to open their doors to black people. Isn't that good enough? Do you really need to make fun of those poor, underpriviliged rich white men?

Oh and by your use of the word "negro", I assume you took a time machine back to 1960. I hope you stay there and keep your racist "help black america" attitude there.

Posted by: Bonnell=Greatest Reporter Ever! | Aug 7, 2007 1:14:39 PM

Whine about tickets costing too much, then whining when tickets are given away for free.

Oh, the mind of an ignorant redneck.

Posted by: Will | Aug 7, 2007 1:28:40 PM

Will the point is I can't give away enough tickets to sell out, and I can't sell enough tickets to sell out. It appears charlotte is not going to support my black rear any more, especially after I ripped them off on charlotte coliseum number 3. I still can't find anyone that is not ashamed to put their name on my paid for me arena.

Posted by: Bob Johnson | Aug 7, 2007 5:04:05 PM

But surely, BJ, you realize that every owner has the city build them a new stadium? Seattle is about to leave because they won't build them a new one. But let's not let facts get in the way here.

Posted by: Bonnell=Greatest Reporter Ever! | Aug 7, 2007 5:28:32 PM

Actually, I don't remember paying any taxes to build the Panthers' stadium, but I guess I wouldn't, being as I hadn't even heard of the city Charlotte before the last couple years...more to the point, there wasn't any public money paid for it. The team actually made sure they had FANS before they forced EVERYBODY ELSE to pay for it. But I guess I'm pretty happy I managed to get away with it. And as to your point about cities building stadiums, most owners can at least find a company that's not ashamed to put their name on it. And do you know what's happening in Seattle? They're not getting the stadium built, because no one is OVERRIDING the vote taken by the city. (Gee, I suppose that's ANOTHER thing I got lucky on.)
