NBA's Stern does right thing
NBA commissioner David Stern didn’t just do the right thing by reinstating referee Joey Crawford, he did the obvious thing.
The league needs all the officiating talent it can assemble right now.
Crawford is the veteran ref who was suspended, following an extended argument with San Antonio Spurs star Tim Duncan. You might recall that “want to fight?’’ comment, which some took as Crawford challenging Duncan physically.
Don’t know this, but I doubt that’s what Crawford meant. I’m guessing Crawford was telling Duncan he could either keep arguing or concentrate on the game. There was a lot of testosterone flowing in that argument, and Crawford wasn’t the only one agitated. Duncan can be a jerk, too, when it suits him to be.
There’s no doubt Crawford can be pugnacious and flippant. But he’s also smart, gutsy and intensely fair. More than one coach has told me if he had to pick a 3-man crew for a deciding game of the NBA Finals, Crawford would be a fixture in that group.
With all the trouble Tim Donaghy has caused – can fans ever look at a close call the same way again? – the NBA needs precise, assertive, experienced officials.
That’s Joey Crawford.

Rick, slow days in the world of the NBA. You can chalk this one up in the "Who Cares" file. Great, Joey Crawford is back, the average NBA fan couldn't pick him out in a crowd of two.
As the season gets closer, I find myself more and more excited about this upcoming season with the newly revamped Bobcats! Not to mention the Panthers aren't giving us much to cheer for...

Ask anyone from San Antonio over whether Tim Duncan was the jerk that day and you'll get a very different answer. But I do have to admit that he didn't have to laugh at Crawford like he did...

Wow, the last comment was a stretch, wasn't it? If you're going to be disruptive, atleast make it funny..
I do have to agree with the comment about how "great" Bonnell is. So, you want a ref back that picks fights with players. Yeah, that's sound thinking. He may be better than Donaghy and I think Tim Duncan is the 2nd most annoying jerk from Wake (the 1st being CP3), but better than Donaghy is not a real high bar for refs.
Shouldn't we want a ref better than either of them?

Geez, for most of his career Duncan has been an expressionless machine. Now he is a jerk! I have to admit that jerk is a winner. Having watched him beat all my favorite teams in college and the pros, I have to admit the guy knows how to play the game AND win however boring he may be. We would contend for an NBA championship with him in our frontcourt.
