Bobcats turn to Brezec to start at center
Three quick updates from Tuesday practice: - Coach Sam Vincent is penciling in center Primoz Brezec as a starter. I’m not surprised he’d go in this direction, despite Brezec missing roughly the first two weeks of training camp. Vincent really doesn’t want Emeka Okafor playing most of his minutes at center this season. By going with Brezec, Vincent avoids starting either Walter Herrmann (which makes the Bobcats small) or Ryan Hollins (whose inexperience was apparent). However, this is anything but a concrete decision. Vincent is tinkering with his rotation, and will continue to do so, to compensate for losing Sean May and Adam Morrison for the season. - Morrison will go through at least three weeks of rehabilitation to reduce the swelling in his left knee before undergoing surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament he tore Saturday night. The Bobcats say doctors will be particularly cautious in reducing that swelling pre-surgery, because Morrison is a diabetic and therefore more susceptible to infection. - Vincent expects rookie Jared Dudley (sprained foot) to play in the final exhibition (Friday night against the New Orleans Hornets in Winston-Salem). That assumes Dudley doesn’t have any setbacks this week in practice. Dudley hasn’t played in any previous exhibition, because of that injury.

Finally, some good updates on the team. We need more reporting and less opinions from you Bonnell.

Ignore Styles here, Rick. You do good work, and I, for one, appreciate it.
Brezec is the way to go. His defensive deficiencies are obvious, but he's not a terrible rebounder, and his offensive game is in the top 15 among true centers in the NBA. In both of his healthy years, he was certainly one of the best 15 at the position from a statistical standpoint. You didn't mention Davidson, though, and I wonder what his role is going to be. He's obviously raw, like Hollins, but I think he's already more ready to make an on-court impact. I also wonder where Dudley will fit in. Early talk was that he was impressing in camp and could have seen some time in the frontcourt. I hope he has a chance to see some time despite the games missed.

Brezec may not be terrible, but a 4.5 reb average isn't good for a starting center. Hopefully he can return to the more respectable 7.4 rebs and 13pts that he offered in 2004-05.

Rick! Keep up the good work!I respect your opinions!More than anyone reporting on the Bobcats! You have been through years;high & low with NBA in Charlotte. These clowns that bust your reporting need to have something to complain about! They probably couldn't give an opinion more or less write a paragraph. I bet if they blogged about something relevant to their career job, they would get bashed by their employes! They don't really think we would agree with them any way! Your entitle to write what you want, report facts & your opinions or even any wishful thinkings!!! Good jobbing Mr. R.B.!! I think we need to make a trade somehow for more inside unless Brezec can pull his weight this year, Hopefully he is rested.

Nice job Rick, nice reporting. I'm not a Brezec hater but I could care less if we stuck Morrison in a wheelchair at the 5 as long as crash and Emeka dont play out of position. Just play hard Charlotte, that's all I ask. Oh and Philly cut Derrick Byars for some reason, might be a good pick up if were too thin on the wing.

Umm, Rebound...you DO realize that those 4.5 RPG have come in only 20 MPG, right? He NEVER played in Indiana. That works out to 10.8/48.
As for Byars, he could be a solid bench player for his NBA career, but I don't see much more than that. If he couldn't beat out Willie Green, there isn't a whole lot to offer, at least right now.

Primo just needs to find a balance between being more aggressive and getting too man fouls. He has continued the fouling trend in the first games back, and if that is going to be the rotation he needs to be on the floor. I do like that he has range and will be able to spread it out a little bit, alllowing some more lanes for Gerald and Jason.

It doesn't matter to a hill of beans who starts for the Bobcats..their season is over before it ever begins...same as it will always be, until they move away...Hopefully soon.

Yes I completely realize that fact. I know he didn't play in Indiana and obviously that hurts his numbers. However even with Charlotte, Brezec hasn't proven that he can be a consistent rebounder. Sometimes he seems hesitant to go after the ball and other times he gets himself in foul trouble on D which limits his minutes. I just want him to revert back to his old 2004-05 form and continue to make other centers leave the post to guard his jump shots. Just having that threat allows things to open up for Emeka.

P.S. while that stat does look good, if you really know Brezec then you know he is never going to play 48min, so that 10.8 is irrelevant.

Hey Jimmy, I'm going to respectfully ask you to F*ck off. World's got enough haters man. Even with the roster becoming thinner than an Olsen twin we're still a playoff caliber team.

Jimmy's just mad that all these black guys make more money than him. Same old story.
Posted by: dan | Oct 24, 2007 7:33:19 PM
Right...he'll probably play about 30 minutes and get at least 6 boards. I'll take that on a night-in, night-out basis, and that's what he gave for 151 games over two years. I don't see why 58 games over one ill-fated season would change that.

Jimmy's the same guy who'll be touting the Bobcats as though his been a fan their entire existance. I'd be willing to be 3:1 that we'll make the playoffs, regardless of who we add at this point. I think Ryan Hollins has a ton of raw talent, and he's an awesome person to boot- give him a shot coach! Go Cats!
