Morrison loss wouldn't be so bad
There’s no way a team is better off losing a player they once chose with the No. 3 overall pick. But I’d argue if the Charlotte Bobcats must lose a rotation player, then they could compensate for missing Adam Morrison more than most. Morrison’s left knee buckled late Saturday night, while he was guarding Lakers forward Luke Walton. The initial diagnosis was a sprain, but everyone involved fears worse, based on the "popping’’ sensation Morrison felt and the pain afterward. Morrison was scheduled for an MRI Sunday, to check for soft-tissue damage. Losing Morrison wouldn’t be devastating for the Bobcats because there’s a glut at the wing positions. Even if Gerald Wallace plays significant minutes at power forward (and I see that coming again), there are plenty of alternatives at small forward and shooting guard. Matt Carroll is this team’s best player who doesn’t start. Walter Herrmann might be the most under-utilized player on the roster right now. And rookie Jared Dudley impressed the coaches before suffering a foot sprain that has kept him out of the exhibitions. So if Morrison, who wasn’t starting, misses major time, there are plenty of alternatives available to coach Sam Vincent.

Horrible draft pick! Can not guard anyone, plus he can not create his own shot.

too weak!

No wonder the Bobcats suck - you guys dont stand behind your team. Get a clue.

That is the way Charlotte rolls Matt. They will only support the team when they're winning. It's the same way with the Panthers. There are only a few loyal fans in Charlotte.

Anyone who thinks losing Adam Morrison is a good thing for the Bobcats is an idiot.
Posted by: bobcatboy33 | Oct 21, 2007 7:25:08 PM
we just lost him as a trading piece too...you can't forget that. even if his stock wasn't very high, he was still a prospect we could have traded to a team looking for some lesser contracts.

Adam made a lot of progess in the off season. I was looking forward to his contributions off the bench. If you look at the Bobcats rotation - Matt fills in for Jason, Adam for Gerald, and Walter for Emeka. Regardless of how this article was written...the Bobcats are NOT a deep team and can use every man on the roster. Rick - you should know this since you cover the team.

That is it. I am turning in my season tickets. I will not go to the unnamed arena and sit with the other 200 ticket holders any longer.

Bonnell, that's pretty tacky saying it's alright to lose someone for an entire season, when they hadn't even made the diagnosis, and probably was getting the freaking MRI as you were thinking this blog up.
Next time you wonder why everyone in the Bobcats organization hates you and never gives you any inside information, think of crap like this that you write.

Wow - a team that hasn't made the playoffs in their brief history and might have (or had) a fighting chance to make them this year has the beat writer say it isn't so bad to lose a player in its rotation? What in the world did Morrison do to Bonnell - take his last sandwich off the buffet?
Sometimes I wonder if this writer has any knowledge of basketball - down one more player may be a plus? Get a clue.

This team is horrible. We have nothing but injuries. At least he can enjoy money while sitting on the bench. Good luck Bobcats.

Losing Morrison sucks and anyone who thinks differently is wrong. Sure his absence may help the minutes of Herrmann and allow him to one again prove that he can play basketball on a high level, but losing a guy in the rotation always hurts. Bonnell, you're wrong to say that the injury doesn't hurt the team. What if someone else gets hurt? Given this team's history of bad luck, you can't assume that won't happen. Although as a true and loyal Bobcats fan I hope that the rest of the year will be injurt free.

It definitely sucks that Morrison is out. But, and I hate to say this, Bonnell's right in that we can absorb his injury better than if it were a player at pg, pf, or c.
Under the heading of "a silver lining", the Bobcats can now use the roster spot to sign another big, or possibly another pg (Earl Boykins anyone?). We sure could use some more big bodies and I'm not so sure how well the tandem of Felton/McInnis is going to work out.

Why do I always have to read through all this detritus to find a few intelligent comments? NC Fan had it right. Morrison was in a learning curve, had a good i.q. for the sport and was working hard to correct deficiencies. As to Bonnel, you misread his comments if you think he was saying it was good to lose Morrison. He was only saying that if someone HAD to go down, then that was the spot that could take the hit. Herrman will eat up a lot of those minutes before all is said and done...and Dudley may be a real find. Oh, yes, and Will...the Panthers won last week.

esaw, I doubt you could afford a ticket, if they played outdoors at freedom park. hurry up and get to your 4th grade class.

I have to admit several things here: 1.) Charlotte does have some of the most inconsistent fans I've ever seen, who like the team only when they are winning. If any of those idiots whant to learn how to be a fan, you better watch some MLB. 2.) Bonnel really is incompetent in his job, but quite smart on the other hand. You all say a lot of BS about him, but still read all his stories. So you wan't to make an effect on him, write directly to the Observer about it. And yes his is always the last to know the insides about the Bobcats. I think he gets them from the midnight edition of ESPN. 3.) Back to the topic, It will tuff not to have Morrison this season, but on the otherhand, Thank God it was him and not J-Rich, G-Force or Okafor. That wouold be a suicide. At least Carroll, Hermann & Dudley can step up and fill in that spot. Hopefully Dudley will perform as expected, plus he is way more defensive than Morrison and he knows how to rebound (VERY IMPORTANT). Scoring guys there are enough in this team, but defense and hustle down the post is very much needed. I think Dudley can do that way better than Morrison. Still, Adam is a very good player that will be missed. I just pray that #3, #23 & #50 stay healthy and for #20 to step up and do his job (Felton you are a PLAYMAKER not a shooter, PLEASE)...!

Who really cares? Nobody wanted the NBA back in Charlotte anyway. The NBA is an unwatchable product now. It sucks, Adam sucks and the Bobcats SUCK!

I will be sitting in my psl seats on Sunday watching a true sport the NFL.
Who cares about the nba, a bunch of over paid thugs.
BET (Black Every Time) Bobcat Johnson can stick his team up his racist black ass.
Posted by: esaw | Oct 22, 2007 7:30:03 PM
What do you know Bonnell? I bet you've never suited up in your life. Just some wimpy sportswriter hiding behind a computer.
This loss really hurts, there's no other way to describe it. I truly believe this young man was ready for a much improved sophomore season after a roller coaster rookie year.

It hurts the team anytime a player gets injuried. Its not on any one player. The team is going to have to come together. Raja Bell....go get em'

I get real sick of those calling Bob Johnson racist and talking about the arena. What did he do to you or anyone to call him a racist? He started a channel call BET (Black Entertainment), so what he was wrong for having a channel for African American. The Bobcat Arena is not named and why is that important plus didn't the Hornets play in the Charlotte Coliseum which to me is not named.
I understand if you mad that an African American billionaire did something most white billionaires do and that hire his own. Please and I do mean please explained to me what he did that most white billionaires dont do, and what a team winning got to do with who is in charged?

Bonnell really ticked me off with his 10/10 editorial regarding Morrison. I felt his writing was cold and impersonal in relation to the potential seriousness of the injury. Also, I felt Bonnell's writing appeared one sided when he ignored the contributions the Coach had anticipated Adam would make this year.
I've been following AM since his Sophmore year at Gonzaga. I joked to my friends that he would be at the RATM concert we went to. And, though it is highly unlikely that we will see Adam play, we are still planning to use our tickets to the Bucks vs Bobcat game in Milwaukee.
When I read about Adam's injury I was devastated, and concerned for him. I want to wish him all the very best with his surgery and rehabilitation.

One can only hope Adam gets through this injury and comes back next season as prepared as he was for this one. Adam will turn it around next year and have a strong year. He's still young yall, he rarely started last year as a rookie and fought for minutes all year long. He played in only a couple preseason games this year. Get straight Adam, can't wait to see you back on the court.
