Wallace at least a week away

A brief update on Bobcats forward Gerald Wallace’s recovery from post-concussion symptoms:

Wallace’s most recent neural testing shows he’s getting better, but he’s not been cleared for full-scale practice. He has been cleared for some non-contact activity, such as shooting.

Wallace has been out with a concussion since taking an elbow to the jaw from Sacramento Kings center Mikki Moore on Feb. 22.

It appears the earliest Wallace would be cleared to play is the trip to Dallas and Houston next week.

We are starting a contest. If our Bobcats get it Bob cats. Anyway if we make the playoffs mj and i have agreed to chase white women around the arena in the nude. We think that this may help our attendance especially the men and gay community. We will take anyone to buy tickets.
Our wives won't care. What am I thinking we both lost our wives due to us chasing white tail around. Actually I guess we have already had the contest.

The post above, confidently authored by "BJ&MJ" is an example of something I've come across very often on the Observer's Bobcats comment pages.
It is a very thinly veiled, almost comic, representation of racism, in this case using the iconic "buck" stereotype of yesteryear to illustrate the characters of both Michael Jordan and Bob Johnson. Before I continue, I'd like to correct "BJ&MJ" that if you are going to properly use the "buck" stereotype, you must get it right. The "buck" has been traditionally represented by large, physically powerful, and athletic young black men. (See James Earl Jones's character in "Mandingo" for a reference.) Now, while Jordan may be seen as to fit this description, the diminutive Mr. Robert Johnson hardly fits for the role. (See the ironically named "Buck Swope" in PT Anderson' "Boogie Nights" as an example.)

My question to these anonymous posters from across the Charlotte area is: what exactly are you angry with? Is it the fact that the two men in question are rich, powerful, and black? Or is it that they are simply black? If that is the case, where are the racist diatribes against Sam Mills, Muggsy Bogues, Gerald Wallace, and Steve Smith?

We are approaching, in this country, Racism's Last Stand. Racism knows that it is dying, that it has lost the war, and will not survive. Anonymous comment boards like this one provide the marginalized and miniature sect one final bile-ridden gasp of hate.

By all means "BJ&MJ," keep posting. You are not successfully spreading your virus, you are constantly reminding the rest of us that we are well.

Well said ASChin..

we need you back gerald.

Golden State had a wild game against the Hawks last night. Lets hope they come into Charlotte a little tired. The Bobcats need every advantage they can get. They are only 5 games out!

Yeah, "BJ&MJ"...how dare you slander the names of our two fine owners? That you would use a shelf stereotype to make up things like them chasing tail and running around on their wives is disgusting. They've never done ANYTHING like that. Way to stand up against the hatred of anonymous message boards, ASChin...I bet that's what's on the birth certificate, huh?

Aw, Procton's just upset that his boy touche is gone and that Felton's holding his own at the point.

Posted by: apauldds | Mar 5, 2008 1:56:37 PM

WOW! Shows what a REAL man you are BJ&MJ..you slander under a false name then run away like the coward you are. Or is it that your time was over on the computer in the library (b/c you dont have one at home) and you have to ride your bike back to the trailer before traffic hits??

Either way...people like you give Southerners a bad name! I am from NY and when I moved here all my friends back home used to tell me I would run into people like you all the time...Fortunately that hs not been the case, in fact you are the exception to the rule.

You also left out that those two "bucks" you were referring to are college educated men who are UBER-SUCCESSFUL in their business ventures and can afford to buy you and your entire trailer park!!

Now that foolishness handled....WE NEED CRASH BACK ASAP!!!

Way to rant against "false names", 'Bobcat Terry'. Was that from your parents, or did you legally change it? You're absolutely right, though...Bob Johnson has made a great deal of money on flaunting the ghetto lifestyle with bling, drugs, criminal activity, and hoez.

Also, I'd like to see Felton "hold his own" against teams that aren't: a. last in the league or b. without their only All-Star caliber player.

Posted by: Michael Procton | Mar 5, 2008 4:48:21 PM

You obviously didn't watch the Celtics game, as neither a) nor b) apply there. There are plenty more, but keep putting needles in that Felton voodoo doll. Anyway, I just wanted to briefly intervene, as folks like Sandy12 do a good enough job of keeping you and your criteria adjusting manipulation in check.

In the meantime, it might serve you well to take a break from Stats class and go learn remedial basketball. Anybody can put together doctored stats and/or SELECTIVELY determine what stats are important to "support" a point. But that doesn't mean they actually understand the game of basketball. You seem to be quite versed at the former, but have demonstrated little evidence of the latter.

Guys I was just telling the truth about me and mj. We both cheated on our wives. I had to pay 1 billion dollars. mj paid dearly as well. He still has women saying that he is the father to their children.
We still feel like we can be role models. I basically sold David Stern on the idea of me being the first black owner of an nba team. David then helped get me an arena built with taxpayer dollars.
I am all about investing in minority business. I also believe in only hiring black head coaches. I did have some white people in executive roles, but I have weeded them out now.
I wish I didn't have money invested in this team. I thought I could get mj to come in and win some support from you people. He thought if we filled the bench with ex tarhills that that would work. It has not worked that is the reason we are doing the contest for the playoffs.

I am currently a season ticket holder and found out today my season ticket price is going up 34% next year from $645 to $865. This team has a slim to none chance to make the playoffs and the explanation received was that they need to raise the price so we can go out and pick up free agents. There is noone to pick up!! I dont know if this is for all sections but definately some of the upper bowl.

Felton played quite well against the Celtics and Warriors and against Toronto both teams were without their best player.
