Larry Brown will make life interesting
- We’ll find out once and for all if Raymond Felton is a point guard. Brown is hard on point guards, forcing them either to excel or fizzle out. I’m confident Phil Ford will remain on the staff, not just because all three (Brown, Ford, Felton) are ex-Tar Heels, but because Ford will be an important buffer zone between Brown and Felton.
- Sooner or later Brown and Michael Jordan will bump heads. That’s because Brown always bumps heads, at least a bit, with the front office. Managing Brown’s moods (as in wanting to trade half the team after a bad loss) is just Brown’s way.
- They’ll make a real playoff run. Brown’s teams almost always improve during his first season with a new franchise. In the Eastern Conference, a five-game improvement puts you right in the playoff mix.
- Emeka Okafor will know for sure if he wants to be here. Okafor is a restricted free agent who can sign a one-year qualifying offer to become unrestricted in 2009. People love or hate playing for Brown; Okafor – even-tempered, thoughtful – will have to gauge how his personality and Brown’s mesh.
- Brown will say five things that make you go hmmmmmmm. He knows and teaches the game as well as anyone. He voices much of what’s inside his head, sometimes in an unfiltered manner. He’s been reluctant in the past to count on rookies, but this team will have a lottery pick. It all will be quite interesting to monitor.

You know, about the last thing, Sam Vincent also said things that made you go hmmm.
And hey, we were competitive with the Cs every game this season save the last one, so who says we couldn't do it in the playoffs?

hey...would love to see Brown bump heads with Jordan...hope he infuruates Jordan...truth is Brown is a Hall of Fame Coach...Jordan is not a Hall of Fame Executive...anything that gets Jordan in public, mad or not, or shows that he believes he has more than just a basketball operations obligation to the team is ok by me. Jordan needs to remember that his "fame" is fading. New generation of fans only know him from "hear say". Were it not for his Hanes commercials, he'd be just another Hall of Fame player whose remarkable skills are only a memory.

This is a great move by Jordan. Brown is a proven winner and he will have these guys playing better than Ham Biscuit ever did. Our team has talent, we just need someone to push them in the right direction. I hope it works out.
To mike - Jordan is FAR from just being a memory. He played in the 90's, not the 60's.

part of me wanted Silas. Silas wanted it more...

I can imagine that Larry Brown will take over a LOT of the personnel decisions. Wonder how Jordan will feel about that? Can't image Brown coming in and deferring to Jordan on who is playing for him.

Please do not miss the historical significance of Larry Brown returning to coach in Charlotte. Remember, he coached the Carolina Cougars of the ABA and led them to the playoffs twice. Larry had a home in Charlotte. The Cougars were a regional franchise that was based in Greensboro. They split their home games between Greensboro, Raleigh, and Charlotte. The Charlotte home games were played in the Coliseum on Independence. Let’s open the archives and see some pictures from the 70’s of Larry in Charlotte!!

Larry Brown is a proven winner @ every level. He'll be here a short time even under the best of circumstances...on his own watch. But lets see how they both mess this up. Maybe Kawme Brown will be the first-round pick.

Larry Brown demands Defense, so expect some turnover. Don't think Adam Morrison will fit with the Larry Brown Mold.
These kids like Okafor have been craving a decent coach, these guys are tired of losing and just want to win! Okafor and his solid defense will do well in Larry Browns offense. Don't forget that Larry Brown knows Nazi well, he drafted/coached him in Philly.

I dig it..some respectability and someone who provides TRUE leadership to our young guys!! You can NOT pay attention to Sam Vincent but you MUST listen to LB because he demands that kinda respect! I would have preferred Silas bc we all know LB likes to flirt with every team out there so...theres no telling how long we will have him but..
Lets enjoy it for once!! Celebrate!! We have a credible leader and someone that will at least draw attention from national media outlets...Now all we need is NOT to select another tarheel and we're all set!

he better not Darko Adam Morrison. I'll be pi$$ed. That's all I'm saying.

Bobcat Matt...hate to shock ya man but he's been out of the NBA as an active player a long time...he left the Bulls in '98 and dont even include Washington...thats a full 10 years....his game is a memory available for replays on Wide World of Sports 2am Sunday morning on cable...but my point was he needs to apply the same determination to his role as an owner and head of operations...nothing more

As a native of Charlotte now living in Sacramento,Ca I can't tell you how happy I am to see Brown take over the Bobcats. In two years this team will be in the play offs and advance past the first round . Today I am floating on cloud nine. email address is bobada916@aol.com.

Ah yes this will be interesting but more importantly, will Tom Sorenson care? Only time will tell I'm afraid.
Posted by: Bro D. | Apr 29, 2008 1:11:39 PM
Certainly, Larry Brown will make the Bobcats franchise more valuable next year before Bob Johnson sells it.
Posted by: Armon Wilfong | Apr 29, 2008 6:07:00 PM
Armon, we can only hope for such a happy outcome.
Posted by: Michael Procton | Apr 29, 2008 6:42:28 PM
Geez...who shot the video of the press conference with a cell phone? (http://www.nba.com/bobcats/)
Did Jordan charge the team for this appearance?
Posted by: Michael Procton | Apr 29, 2008 7:18:03 PM
Maybe the current absentee ownership the Bobcats have is just the right fit for Larry Brown. He'll get carte blance as long as we're winning, then he'll bolt and just about anyone can take over because the system will be in place (see Pistons,Detroit).
Posted by: apauldds | Apr 30, 2008 6:01:55 AM
Almost forgot, Procton: What do you think is gonna happen now with your favorite player Raymond Felton?
Posted by: apauldds | Apr 30, 2008 6:04:30 AM
I don't know if this will make them better or not, just not sure what Larry has left in the tank. The good thing is at least people are talking about the team it's created a little buzz and if that translates to about 5,000 more fans at the arena on game night then it's a good thing for the team and the city.
Posted by: Chris G. | Apr 30, 2008 6:33:55 AM
Felton's going to flop, and maybe we can finally move on. If Stephon Marbury couldn't make Larry happy, Felton won't do it with 10% of the talent.
Chris, we might get 5,000 more fans on opening night. The number won't pass 15,000 for the season unless we're in the East's top four all year.
Posted by: Michael Procton | Apr 30, 2008 8:34:32 AM
Procton, you may be right, but with the right draft pick / free agent and some great coaching top 4 or 5 in the East is not to far out of reach.
Posted by: Chris G. | Apr 30, 2008 8:57:56 AM
Chris, we're gonna need a top 3 pick out of the lottery to get an impact rookie, and I just don't see us spending enough to get an FA who actually will make an impact.
As an interesting note: I'm a total ESPN junkie, and they've barely mentioned Larry Brown and the Bobbies. Stephen A. spent more time talking about the POTENTIAL firing of D'Antoni than the ACTUAL hire of Brown. Kind of sad, particularly if they had hoped this move would bring relevance to the franchise.
Posted by: Michael Procton | Apr 30, 2008 9:51:43 AM
ESPN news had it as their lead story and actually had Tom Sorenson on the phone. And he was still sore that Jordan dissed him on the conference call. Had to laugh out loud at that one.
Posted by: apauldds | Apr 30, 2008 10:21:32 AM
ESPN News? Does anybody even watch that? First Take and SportCenter are what I'm talking about. And yes, it makes no sense that Jordan, who is never here, wouldn't even hold a conference call or press conference to explain why he fired HIS COACH less than one year after he hired him. It's a question of accountability, and Jordan has never showed a shred of that as an owner/executive. Honestly...the guy wants to charge to make appearances for a team he owns part of. That's ridiculous.
Posted by: Michael Procton | Apr 30, 2008 10:47:25 AM
Mike was a great player, but he doesn't appear to be a great business man or General Manager, he's never had to humble himself and he's use to people catering to him. Probably not good traits when trying to win over a fan base.
Posted by: Chris G. | Apr 30, 2008 10:57:44 AM
Everyone knew why Vincent was fired, and MJ addressed it in the news conference yesterday. The $ for personal appearance thing is absurd if it's true. That was aluded to by Bob Johnson, but Bob has said a lot of stupid stuff lately. But, I can certainly understand why MJ doesn't have a particularly high opinion of Tom Sorensen.
Posted by: apauldds | Apr 30, 2008 10:59:07 AM
I thought Silas would have been a better fit too. However, part of me now thinks that maybe we should have waited for Avery Johnson to get fired this morning. Another part of me questions where Mike D'Antoni will be next year, though I don't think he's going anywhere.

Well everyone tune in my beloved Hornets begin their next round of playoff action Saturday. We have the coach and mvp of the year.
You losers have the coach of 1 year. Now you guys are seeing why I did not want to give away my team to this MJ guy. He wanted to put up no money and just let his name and face buy him majority of my team.
Michael knows as much about management as Bob Johnson knows about not having fried chicken on Sunday. (Just kiddin Bob, it's not like you are a racist or anything)
GO CHARLOTTE OOPS I MEAN NEW ORLEANS HORNETS.

I have the perfect solution the bobcats guys. this what they need to do to go to the playoff and sell out their games. they have to trade Sean May, Jared Dudley or Adam Morrison, two of the draft pick for Allen Iverson. it,s just not working for him and Carmelo Anthony there. he can opt out of his contract this summer. he played for Larry for many years.they had their up and down but they both have what it takes to get to win.he will take care of our 4th quarter problem. Raymond felton is good for back up point guard.if they can do whatever it takes to make that trade possible ticket selling will go through the roof, they will get more national exposure. if only somebody can listen to me lol
