Bobcats coach might add brother to staff

Don’t be surprised if another Brown joins the Charlotte Bobcats’ coaching staff soon.

Larry Brown mentioned a couple of weeks ago that his brother Herb, a longtime NBA assistant, was under consideration here. Herb Brown is no longer with the Atlanta Hawks and a source familiar with the situation said Herb Brown’s hiring here is just about a done deal.

As to the Bobcats’ looking to trade up, the question is what assets they have to offer. Sean May and Adam Morrison, in their current health states, probably don’t serve as particularly valuable commodities. Memphis, drafting fifth, would love to discard Brian Cardinal’s contract, but would you really pay Cardinal $13 million over the next two seasons to move from ninth to fifth? Don’t think so.

moving up would only be justified if they get to 3. if beasley goes to 3 then we are set. if the draft goes rose then beasley(or reverse) then minny is gonna auction off mayo for players. the picks are gonna happen first, either way. minny would be foolish to trade before players are taken 1 and 2. same goes for miami. no matter how much charlotte may want to move up, they cant move at all before chicago picks. make no mistake about beasley, this guy will be an all star.

Maybe the stars will align and we'll end up with Beasley without giving up a starter.

have a way to "sweet up" the deal to minny, and again its contingent on mayo going 2 to miami(please pat riley, do us a favor)

bobcats get pick 3(PF beasley), PG randy foye

t-wolves get PG raymond felton, pick 9(brook lopez?), SG adam morrison, PF/SF jared dudley

bobcats start
okafor, beasley, wallace, richardson, foye
bench includes mohammad, may, davidson, carrol, 2nd rd pick(kyle weaver) and UFA beno udrich

love felton, but foye would be a fair replacement if it bring beasley in the process. foye averaged 13 and 4 last year and is 6'4, good above average height for a PG now-a-days. he is only 24 (young but not too young). weaver is a good defender combo guard from w-state and would be a good 2nd rounder. also about 6'4 and fills the stat sheet (assists, boards, steals).

Why bash Cardinal? It's not like he's that much worse than frontcourt savior Nazr Mohammed.

Ok guys I have come up with some trades that will make this the most AWESOME! summer the Bobcats have ever seen! If you're sitting there at home you may want to go put your shoes back on because your socks are about to get BLOWN OFF!

First we trade Felton to the Hornets for Chris Paul. We throw Okafor in there as well to sweeten the deal.

Next we shop our luscious number 9 pick to the Clippers for Elton and what the heck let's send Ammo to L.A. as well(maybe the sun will do him some good).

Then let's send May and our 1st round pick for the next 10 years to Miami for Beasley.

Then we trade Gerald Wallace and Charlotte Motor Speedway to Cleveland for Lebron James(word is that NASCAR is big in Cleveland).

After that let's kidnapp all of the Lopez twins' disney figurines and not give them back until they both sign with us as Rookie Free Agents(other teams won't pick them in the draft because they lose their majic powers without those figurines).

We sign a back up PG on the cheap(maybe Duhon or Pargo) and our roster is set!

1) Paul-Duhon/Pargo
2) Richardson-Carroll
3) James-Dudley
4) Brand-Beasley-Davidson
5) B.Lopez-R.Lopez-Hollins

Now all this is pretty much easy to do if the Bobcats would just go ahead and do it.

from charlie rosen, vet NBA writer, about NBA teams needs entering tomorrows draft:

FOR CHARLOTTE: (get ready this hurts)

- A big man with scoring skills.
- A natural point guard to replace Raymond Felton.
- A bold wing scorer to do what Adam Morrison was supposed to do.
- As many defensive-minded players as possible to augment Gerald Wallace.

Ouch.So.....

If we are to address one man's opinion of our team lets get to work. we could stay at 9, pick randolph who is a big man at 6'11 with scoring skills and provides some raw defensive skill set with boards and blocks. then maybe minny keeps 3 and takes mayo because miami takes beasley. we trade adam morrison(who he crushed) and our 2nd round pick(30 something/dj white?) to portland for SG martell webster(who could be a bench wing scorer to go with carrol on our bench) and PG steve blake(a natural point guard). then go out and sign a UFA in the summer like juan dixon or roger mason jr.

bobcats keep starting

1) felton/but have "natural+defensive" pg steve blake to push him

2) richardson/matt carrol/juan dixon

3) wallace(defensive mind)/"wing scorer" martell webster

4) randolph"big man scorer"/sean may

5) okafor"defensive minded"/mohammad"big man who can score"

bench still includes jared dudley, jarmareo davidson

Pretty comical that people continue to believe Minnesota would trade Michael Beasley to Charlotte for a pupu platter of scrubs and the No. 9 pick. Seriously, get a clue.

I just realized that I misspelled magic. That just makes my last post seem ridiculous.

Posted by: Jared | Jun 25, 2008 5:09:22 PM

lol @ Jared -- the sad thing is, it isn't even close to the most ridiculous post on this thread

Posted by: say what? | Jun 25, 2008 5:26:07 PM

If you read the entire Rosen article you'll find that he says pretty much the same thing for most every team: wing scoring, PG's and bigs.

Pretty useless article if you ask me. Not that he's wrong in what he's saying, just that he's not really giving any insight.

Posted by: Jared | Jun 25, 2008 5:28:31 PM

I just want to say none of these trades will happen. Every year its like this and usually only two deals happen all day. But after reading a bunch of articles, I thought of a trade that could please all parties involved.
The Raptors want another big man and plan to move the 7+ million a year deals in Nesterovic and TJ Ford, but want to keep their pick.
The Blazers want an offensive PG in Barbosa, willing to trade their 13 pick and Martell Webster. They can take on salary.
The Suns are willing to give up the contracts of Diaw and Barbosa. They want Nesterovic to backup Shaq and get bulk minutes. Pheonix wants a backup PG, one who could play 30 minutes off the bench and move to SG at times. They also want to move in the top 10 for the draft.
The Bobcats should be willing to trade Felton if they can overall get better. TJ Ford is a more capable offensive PG, as he shot .470 from the field comapred to Feltons' .414 and scored just two less ppg in 12 fewer minutes. They can shed a few million by swapping swingmen, Carrol for Webster, in preference to the more athletic player. Also they move down just a few slots to get two picks, a PG at 13, and a big man at 15. Adds depth to the team.

Raptors get: Boris Diaw

Blazers get: Leandro Barbosa, Matt Carrol

Suns get: Raymond Felton, Rasho Nesterovic, #9 pick(from CHA)

Bobcats get: TJ Ford, Martell Webster, #13 pick(from POR), #15 pick(from PHX)

Posted by: Nick | Jun 25, 2008 5:31:23 PM

I'm not going to argue againts TJ Ford's talent but his injuries have been some of the scariest that I've seen in recent years. His durability is a huge question that shouldn't be added to a team that already has May and Morrison to worry about.

He also disappered after losing his position as a started last season. He's a big reason Toronto tanked at the end of the season. He may look good on paper but there's a reason that Toronto is wanting to trade him and it's the same reason that we don't need him.

Posted by: Jared | Jun 25, 2008 5:46:41 PM

So, I'm looking around on the comments and I don't see anyone making any racial remarks.

What's happened to this board? People are actually talking about NBA scenarios. Finally!

Just a couple of months back someone would have whined about MJ and Bob hiring a "brother" after reading that headline.

Posted by: GoCats | Jun 25, 2008 6:04:30 PM

We just the 20th pick!

Posted by: Yeah? | Jun 25, 2008 6:53:26 PM

Nobodys talking about us getting the 20th pick. I would guess that if we are looking at big Roy at 20, then we are going backup PG at 9. If Westbrook is not available, I wonder who we are looking for at 9?

Posted by: Mason | Jun 25, 2008 6:56:14 PM

If Westbrook is gone at 9, then we could go big at 9 in lopez or love and go pg at 20. Maybe Augustine will be around at either of the picks?

Posted by: Yeah? | Jun 25, 2008 7:07:40 PM

if 9 and 20 are kept they can get pretty good value with post and guard at early or late with either.

example: 9 (PF anthony randolph) early and 20 (PG mario chalmers) late. or 9 (PG russell westbrook) early and (C roy hibbert)late. just as happy with either. looks like events will be good for the bobcats.

fingers crossed they can make something big happen, however. jordan did it right last year. he can do it again. parlay those picks into some young but ready vets who can contribute now, not later. go to dallas after a brandon bass in exchange for 9 and sean may and go to portland for steve blake and martell webster for trade 20, matt carrol, and jamareo davidson. these picks are assets to be added to a valuable trade package.

do the right thing jordan.

Posted by: brendan | Jun 25, 2008 7:48:21 PM

Brandon friggin' Bass. Wow. Do you huff a lot of paint?

Forget about Anthony Randolph. Dude is raw and skinny as a rail. He won't contribute for 2-3 years. We need to reach the playoffs now. We don't need a project. And forget about Chalmers at 20. He won't be there.

Take the best PG available at 9, then J.J. Hickson at 20 and slide Okafor back to the 5 where he belongs, because he can't guard 4s on the perimeter. Or maybe Ajinca or Speights at 20, if they're on the board. But for God's sake, do NOT take that stiff Hibbert. If you're 7-2 and you get shut down by Davidson, you have "NBA journeyman" stamped on your forehead.

Posted by: say what? | Jun 25, 2008 9:08:33 PM

From ESPN.com: "Brown said the Bobcats expect injured forwards Adam Morrison and Sean May back next season and hope to sign center Emeka Okafor. He said at No. 9 the Bobcats' top choices -- UCLA guard Russell Westbrook and center Kevin Love -- will likely be gone.

That means Charlotte will focus on a list of four players with the ninth pick: Italy's Danilo Gallinari, West Virginia's Joe Alexander, Texas' D.J. Augustin and LSU's Anthony Randolph. Gallinari and Alexander could be gone at No. 6 and 8, respectively. If that's the case, then the Bobcats will likely choose between Augustin and Randolph.

At No. 20, the Bobcats have a longer list that will include: Stanford's Robin Lopez, Congo's Serge Ibaka, Syracuse's Donte Greene, Florida's Marreese Speights, Nevada's JaVale McGee and Rider's Ryan Thompson. Lopez is the one player who will likely be gone at No. 20.

The Bobcats were also impressed with Georgetown center Roy Hibbert when he worked out for the team earlier this month. Hibbert is expected to go late in the first round."

Posted by: Yeah? | Jun 25, 2008 9:20:45 PM

That article doesn't really make sense, but that's par for the course for Andy Katz. Case in point: If Gallinari and Alexander are gone, that means somebody slipped, and it's probably Westbrook or Love.

Regardless, I really don't think Coach Brown would be that candid with Andy Katz. At least, I hope he would be spreading misinformation, like everybody else on the eve of the draft.

Posted by: say what? | Jun 25, 2008 9:41:15 PM

If those 2 guys are gone and Westbrook is also gone at 9, then I would think that would that Lopez slipped. If Lopez goes 3 or 4 then that would be good for us.

Posted by: Yeah? | Jun 25, 2008 9:44:08 PM

*that would mean that

Posted by: Yeah? | Jun 25, 2008 9:45:15 PM

"If you're 7-2 and you get shut down by Davidson, you have "NBA journeyman" stamped on your forehead."
...or you play for Georgetown, whose 1940s offense got Hibbs a grand total of THREE shots (all of which he made, I might add) in the 16 minutes he did play despite being jobbed by the refs.

Posted by: Michael Procton | Jun 25, 2008 10:09:18 PM

Did he get "jobbed" all year, Michael? Because any objective observer would say that his senior season was a disappointment. Hibbert is robotic, immobile and passive. Those are his problems, not the refs.

Posted by: say what? | Jun 26, 2008 8:15:00 AM

Well hell...if he was an All-American despite all that, imagine what he could do once he gets in the league and gets some coaching and an offense that doesn't completely ignore him. His problem was not the refs all year, just John Thompson. The reason the refs were an issue vs. Davidson was that they had no idea how to officiate a guy who was six inches taller than Davidson could even put on the court.
