Brown could use Moe by his side
Larry Brown offering Doug Moe a coaching job is about more than collecting a whole set of ex-Tar Heels.
In an "Odd Couple" kind of way, Moe on the bench would offer a healthy balance to Brown’s driven personality. He’d keep Brown loose and offer the kind of unfiltered advice you only get from a longtime friend.
Former Carolina Cougars general manager Carl Scheer told me a story that defines the Brown-Moe friendship. Back in the 1970s, not every American Basketball Association team had an assistant coach. Brown wanted Moe working with him, so Scheer sold ownership on the idea by saying Moe would also scout opponents.
That miscast Moe profoundly. He never had much use for scouting, later telling his Denver Nuggets to concentrate on what they do best and not fret over opponents’ strengths and weaknesses.
Back in Cougars days, Moe drove up to Virginia to scout a Squires team next on the schedule. When Brown asked Moe for the scouting report, Moe directed Brown to a single, crumpled sheet of paper.
Moe’s concise report on the Squires: "If you can’t beat that team, you stink!"

I don't know whether its ultimately going to be good or bad, but is/has there been another professional sports team so seemingly inbred to within a certain college and area?

First, the bobs get Crash, then they get Davidson. Whoa, is this a coincidence that they both went to Alabama??
They also have/had Derek Anderson, Nazr, and Bogans. All these guys went to Kentucky.
Ryan Hollins and Jason Kapono both went to UCLA.
Get off the UNC hard on you guys have.

You're totally right, Leel. But wait a minute...let's try some counting together
Hollins+Kapono=2 (never on the team at the same time)
Davidson+Wallace=2
Anderson+Mohammed+Bogans=3 (never more than two on the team at the same time)
McInnis+Felton+May+Jordan+Brown+Whitfield+Ford+Peterson+LaRita Barber (in charge of the super-succesful Bobcat Horse and Pony Show)+Doug Moe (let's just assume Mike and RobertCat will approve that hire, for obvious reasons.)=10, up to NINE of whom have been simultaneously employed by the organization. Really good comparison.
Oh, and let's not forget the fact that Felton and May were drafted specifically because they went to UNC, in the false hopes of selling tickets. They chose that over a trade of those two picks for the chance to get Chris Paul, who just happens to be the best PG in the NBA.

Wow, get something to do Procton. I'm sure if one goes delving into the front office there will be more ties to the other schools.
What extremely accurate inside source did you get your trade info from? You and Brandon should get together and come up with some trade scenarios.

Did anyone ever think that we have 2 players that went to UNC on our team...the basketball team. UNC is pretty good academic institution and why is it a problem of hiring people within organization from that college. It's 2 or 3 hours away, what's the big deal. I went to Clemson and the place where I work, I would say 40% went to Clemson and 30% went to Carolina. Maybe there are UNC hires because it's a local recognized school. And another thing. Say you started your own business, wouldn't you want people you think you could trust to help you run it. I know I would rather hire someone I know and known for a long time then some bum off the streets. You guys need to grow up and get off the UNC/race cards...

gminski - i think procton is right, as it relates to the opportunity to trade those two picks for chris paul on draft day. at the time, however, i am not sure you can fault the bobcats management. they were an expansion team and needed players. you can fault them, however, for choosing may.

Yeah, you're right you should fault them for picking the Final Four MVP of the championship team who also happens to have an excellent rapport with the pg you picked up, oh and he's also great with media relations and a win from the perspective that Charlotte is a majority UNC town. What in the world were they thinking?
Oh and there is no way they would have been able to trade up and take chris paul.
And...we wouldn't be talking about this at all if May had been able to stay healthy as he would be atleast a 15-10 player. And don't give me the whole "he's fat" line. While he doesn't look skinny, his knee problems aren't a result of possibly being overweight.

got another one for the bobcats to consider.
miami is at 2 in this draft. chicago is leaning toward rose at 1 meaning miami will draft michael beasley. miami has a solid young post player udonis haslem (6'8 230) who is like a young pj brown(solid not flashy, lunch pale type 10 and 7 kinda guy) and shawn marion who can be a 3 or 4 and was the centerpiece of what miami got back from the suns for shaq. riley likes marion and so does wade, so that in combonation with the pending selection of beasely means haslem is odd man out.
they are also looking to get rid of marcus banks (back up pg 6'2 215 decent shot, effective when in phoenix)because they like chris quinn as the back up pg.
bobcats need bigs and smalls and no wings.
bobcats get: PF haslem, PG banks
heat get: PF may, SG carrol,C hollins, 2nd round pick(florida c/pf mareese spieght?)
bobcats still pick number 9 and get C deandre jordan.
bobcats start C okafor 6'9, PF haslem 6'8, SF wallace 6'6, SG richardson 6'5, PG felton 6'1
bench includes mohammad, morrison, dudley, davidson, banks, and pick (d.jordan)
heat start C blount 6'10, PF beasley 6'8, SF marion 6'7, SG wade 6'3, PG williams 6'1

Dougie, your comment makes WAY too much sense and will thus be ignored, which is too bad.
Procton, Whitfield didn't go to UNC.

Combination Larry Brown & Dough Moe , Would bring alot of excitement . Knowledge & Experience to the Bobcats . Dough Moe , Please except the job and help us the Bobcats move into the Nba.

Move up more in the Nba

Brendan, no way the bcats make that trade. Haslem isn't worth it. And if someone got spleights in the 2nd round that would be a steal.

Procton once again is wrong. The cat's did not happen to have the opportunity to get Paul. As far as why Procton is a UNC basher he could not cut the academic standards at UNC hence that is why he has chosen a school of lesser standards.

Charlotte Media: Get Chris Paul
June 19, 2005 6:33 PM
"Portland GM John Nash, who WANTS CHARLOTTE'S FIFTH AND 13TH PICK IN EXCHANGE FOR PORTLAND'S THIRD PICK, is loving Charlotte Observer columnist Tom Sorensen, who writes that Charlotte should make the deal:
The Charlotte Bobcats should do what they have to, including giving up both first-round picks, to select Wake Forest point guard Chris Paul."
--Henry Abbott, ESPN.com 6-19-2005
But hey, don't let facts get in the way of your argument.

I will premise this by saying that Paul is clearly a better individual player than Felton (and no one would argue otherwise). But the folks who think that he opeates in a vacuum and individually turned around the Hornets are wrong and Mr. Bass/Byron Scott and all the players they picked up need to smack them. As far as him playing with Bobcats, would our coaches have truly become more competent with his arrival?
With as much as CP3 shoots (way more than Felton), we would have definitely put him at the 2 beside BK as he is CLEARLY a combo right? That would have been nice. And if he did not reduce his shots still, we could have played him at the 2 beside Touche when we finally got rid of BK. Now one thing I will say about Paul, he unlike Felton, would not have just accepted this. The scraps b/w him and Brevin would have been fun to put on youtube.
BTW, who's Paul's David West (versatile shooting pick and pop PF) going to be on this team? Would you be cool with seeing your man Crash come off the bench like Bonzi (another player who scores most in the halfcourt off isolation plays and changes the flow of the halfcourt offense) does (a good idea for the Cats if they kept him and weren't paying him 9 mill/yr) so that he would have Richardson and Carroll or Morrison starting beside him to spread the floor?
The mistake in that draft was NOT the fact that they did not trade both picks for Paul. It was that they did not pick up Granger with the 13th who at the time was a greater need. Furthermore, the fact that May at 13 and Morrison at 3 both were hurt all year last year hurts more than simply not getting Paul. Getting Felton and not getting Paul is no more unlucky than getting Okafor (cue Procton's double double quote) and not getting Howard.
Either way, not picking Granger/May being injured and/or Roy/Gay/Morrison being injured were bigger mistakes/issues than anything else. Felton however, has to take on the weight of those things, despite it not being his fault nor relevant to him.
