Nets' Jefferson heading to Bucks?
Sounds like a deal is done between the Nets and Bucks that sends Richard Jefferson to Milwaukee and Yi Jianlian and Bobby Simmons to New Jersey. You don't have to be much of a conspiracy theorist to see where this is headed: Discarding Jefferson's $15 million salary for the 2010-11 season gives the Nets abundant cap room to be in the bidding war for LeBron James when he hits free-agency in the summer of 2010. By the way, a minor Bobcats note: The team is picking up Jermareo Davidson's option at about $711,000 for next season.

This is bad news for the Bobs. Now the Bucks won't have to reach for Joe Alexander at 8, which increases the odds that they'll take a player we'd want (i.e., Westbrook).

Westbrook will be gone before the Bucks pick.

The Bucks more likely will go after a power forward now by trading Yi so they will take Love if available screwing the Bobcats.

Yeah, probably -- but not definitely.
ESPN is reporting the Clips and Sonics are swapping picks IF Minnesota takes Mayo. The Clips are expected to take Eric Gordon. The
Sonics are expected to take Brook Lopez or Jerryd Bayless at No. 7.
That means the order would be:
1. Rose
2. Beasley
3. Mayo
4. Gordon
5. Love?
6. Gallinari
7. Lopez/Bayless
8. Westbrook?
That would actually be more than OK with me, if Lopez went 7, Westbrook went 8 and we took Bayless.

few stray comments about trades and stuff heading into the draft later:
-guards will go early since they are the "hot topic" with paul and williams leading the cause. but bostone just won with an average pg. bigs will go later and not many will have an impact. and beasley is really not a big.....
-bobcats will take their share of each without moving either pick. look for options of augustine or bayless at 9 and speights or r lopez at 20
-after reviewing the possibilities in this draft, new age pf looks like a weak link. randolph is about the best and he cant start right away. so the bobcats should look to post draft trades or trades during the draft. no one has mentioned the fact the odum looks like he is on the outs in LA and they are looking to move him with bynum coming back and sliding gasol into what was odum's spot at 4. if jordan feels lucky he should offer 9, morrison, may, dudley, and future 2nds for odum and the 2009 second

I doubt they'd take Bayless. Why take another Felton when you're looking for a change-of-pace player?
ESPN also reported that Brown wants Augustin and Jordan wants Westbrook. I don't know how true that is, but I'd imagine that they'd give strong consideration to Augustin if Westbrook is gone.
But with Jordan making the pick, he'd likely go Bayless...If for no other reason, than to just go against the grain.

Lamar only has 1 year left on his contract. Might not have to give that many pieces to get him, just enough expiring contracts to make the math work. We would want to make sure that we could sign him to a long-term deal. Shouldn't #9 and May be sufficient? Then maybe we draft Chalmers or another backup PG at 20?

I remember when Jordan first took over his current position. He said publicly how much he liked Brandon Roy but that ownership and others like Morrison. Wish we would have gone Mike's way on that pick.
Posted by: Mason | Jun 26, 2008 4:42:05 PM
He is similar to Ray, but I'd take him over Augustin anyway. Bayless may not be a great defender, but Augustin will be a flat-out defensive liability in the pros. He's just too small. That said, I'd much rather have Augustin at 9 than Lopez or Randolph, who have "BUST" written all over them.
Posted by: say what? | Jun 26, 2008 4:47:16 PM
What about Jason Thompson from Rider at 20 if we get the pg/combo at 9? He's got height, but is not skinny. He's a good defender and is mobile while being able to step out and knock down the jumpshot.

(1) Boy, we sure are getting screwed if another team beats us to the punch by drafting this year's white, overhyped college star that will soon turn into an NBA bust.
I wish someone "screwed" us back in 2006.
(2) I don't buy that Bernie wanted Morrison one bit. When has Bernie ever liked one-dimensional players? He just about only played Carroll as a last resort it seemed, and Carroll is a better player than Morrison. I don't buy that at all. Bernie probably wanted Gay, and Jordan wanted Morrison, and thought he knew best, and of course he didn't. I dont' think either of them really wanted Roy, if just for the simple fact he basically blew off our workouts and made it known through his agent that he didn't want to play for us.
But there's little chance Bernie was high on drafting Morrison. He is the exact opposite of the type of player Bernie likes.

Jason Thompson, Hickson, Speights, Ajinca ... any of those guys would be great at 20. Just don't pick that stiff Hibbert. That's all I ask.
In the second round, gimme Kyle Weaver, Joey Dorsey or Ryan Anderson. Granted, Anderson probably won't be on the board.

LeBron James a Net? He is a huge Yankees fan as the poor sports fans of Cleveland have already found out. I think it could happen although I wish he'd stay. Wade will stay in Miami but Bosh will make his way back to the lower 48 and change teams. I give the Raptors two more years and then hello Oklahoma City--thus ending the Canadian experiment. But on to more important matters, the Bobcats would be wise to draft Augustin at 9 and Hibbert or Jordan at 20. Another positive scenerio would be selecting Kosta Koufos at 9 and Mario Chalmers at 20. No one is worth moving up for, not even Beasley. Stay put and pick your needs. Don't trade Wallace unless its for a high caliber veteran who can produce. He's too valuable otherwise. Larry will have these kids believing in him and in the playoffs. This will be the year it turns around.

I will vomit if the Bobcats pick Koufos.

Grady, Jay-z is trying to get the team moved to Brooklyn, plus Jigga and 'Bron are buddies, its the perfect setup for this move to be made

The thing that worries me is that I don't know how much the team will improve with the current crop of players that may be available at 9/20. If, by some miracle, the team lands a playoff spot next season, its first rounder will go to Denver. By resigning Okafor, you're hands are tied, cap-wise.
That means that tonight's picks (barring trades) are likely to be the two biggest additions to the team over the next two seasons. I don't know if a combination of Bayless/Augustin and Speights/Hibbert/Jordan makes this team that much more improved.

1. I love Will and his "oh, your facts don't fit my world view so I will continue to believe what I want about MJ's wants with draft picks". Do you work for the bush administration?
2. If bayless/augustin are our options at 9, that blows. I don't want love, but know he'll contribute more than either of those players. I'd role the dice here, if no trade down and take Rush or randolph here. At 20 i'd go chalmers or speights/arthur/thompson.
I think rush, speights does improve the bcats a good bit.
Posted by: bonnell=Procton | Jun 26, 2008 5:16:10 PM
3. with rush, we can trade wallace away for a pick next year or an established player now. Say mavericks 1 round and brandon bass?
Rush has the same skill set as wallace, only he can hit an open 3 and be a teammate, not demand to be the number one option on offense.

What's wrong with Bayless? Good size, good athleticism, good shooter (who reportedly shot the lights out when he worked out for the Heat), good passer, good vision, good quickness, good leaping ability ... he definitely has a score-first mentality and sure I'd rather have a playmaker, but seriously, we could do a hell of a lot worse than Jerryd Bayless.
Posted by: say what? | Jun 26, 2008 5:24:23 PM
We could surely do worse than Bayless, but what does he bring to the table that Felton doesn't already bring?
I think Brown is looking for a pass-first guy, and that surely isn't Bayless. Plus, Bayless has a bit of an attitude (which isn't always that bad), and he likely wouldn't be too thrilled about splitting minutes with Felton. The combo may not work well over the course of 82 games.
Posted by: Ray | Jun 26, 2008 5:28:24 PM
He's a better shooter than Felton, but I agree, they do overlap. Still, Ray's the only PG we have signed right now, so we need somebody who can come in and play a decent amount of minutes right away. I think either Bayless or Augustin could do that, and honestly I'd be happy with either one. I just think ultimately Bayless will be a starter in the league for a long time, and Augustin will be a reserve due to his defensive shortcomings.
Posted by: say what? | Jun 26, 2008 5:36:20 PM
Jared, the Lakers were asking for an already-signed Gerald Wallace just last year in exchange for Odom. I doubt May+#9 would do it.
Will, you're right...Morrison was a Jordan decision.
Posted by: Michael Procton | Jun 26, 2008 5:47:45 PM
Bayless is much better than Felton. Most people think Bayless is one of the top-4 players in the draft, so getting him at 9 would be a steal. He is a much better shooter than Felton and will turn out to be a Billups/Arenas type player in the pros. Plus, Larry Brown went to the Finals with a shoot-first PG (Iverson) and won a title with Detroit, who had Billups at the PG spot. Bayless would give the team star power and liven up the fan base. We need to get him if at all possible.
Posted by: getbayless | Jun 26, 2008 5:48:16 PM
When did I suggest Odom for May and #9?
I don't want Odom at all.
I do think if Bayless drops to 9 he wouldn't be a bad pick.

And I love idiots who's opinions don't mesh with reality. How did Bernie like one-dimensional Rush? How did Bernie like one-dimesnsional House? There's absolutely nothing to believe that Bernie really wanted Morrison. Bernie said time and time again how he wanted players that could contribute in a number of ways, and Morrison certainly does not fit that bill.
It was most likely the first of many decisions Jordan came in and overruled everyone on, and most of those have been poor decisions (at least he got Richardson right).
But again, go on thinking that reality and history doesn't prove some of you delusional idiots wrong yet again.
No one knows for sure who wanted who, but I think it's safe to say from Bernie's history, the type of players he liked, and how he wanted to build this team, Adam Morrison was not his first choice.
