Would Wallace be part of Grizzlies deal?
I wrote in today's Observer that if the Bobcats are moving up from the No. 9 pick tonight, their most logical trade partner is the Memphis Grizzlies at No. 5. If the Bobcats and Grizzlies do business tonight, I wouldn't be surprised if a deal could include forward Gerald Wallace. The Grizzlies have the cap room to absorb Wallace's $9.5 million salary next season. He'd be attractive to the Grizzlies, who need to get tougher and be more energetic defensively. Now, you have to ask yourself a question: Is giving up Wallace and one or more of Charlotte's first-round picks (ninth and 20th) worth the chance to draft Russell Westbrook or Kevin Love, plus get some salary-cap relief? That's something Bobcats management should ponder long and hard before pulling the trigger.

No, it's not. I don't like wallace, but neither player would be worth that. Now wallace and no 9 to pick up the 3...that's worth it.
Felton, mayo, jrich (20th pick) okafor is a great line up.

NO! Dont trade Gerald. He has done so much for us and the J Rich and Wallace duo is killer. I would be very disappointed to lose Gerald for another rookie.

Hey Rick,
Their are rumors going around about Cleveland talking to us about a trade. I have heard names like Felton, May, and Morrison, possibly being involved. What do you know about this?

How can you possibly not like Gerald Wallace??
Posted by: Bobcatsfan | Jun 26, 2008 1:05:24 PM
Rick, please tell me the 9 and 20 for rasheed and another player is dead. wallace is 34 yrs old, has a bad attitude and only averaged 12 and 6 last year. Also, have you herad any rumors about us talking to Denver for Melo?

How much has Wallace REALLY done for the Bobcats? The team won more without him than with him, especially when you remove the McInnis led games.
Bonnell=Procton more than likely is talking about his game and the fact that the team is more efficient and balanced in his absence.

Wow, trading a very good player for the possibility of a very good player is just an awful decision.

Bobcatsfan,
I dont like wallace bc he thinks he's tracy mcgrady. He wants the o to pass through him, he thinks he's too valuable to play PF, he gets injured, the bcats did much better without him during the season because it gave them two shooters to spread the floor...
He has a lot of positives, but I don't see how anyone wouldn't be willing to give him up to get mayo and move jrich to sf.
We'd be a little worse on d, but Mayo is a very good defender, felton can be better than he's shown and maybe whomever we pick up at 20 can help shore up the sf/pf slot.
Who doesn't make this trade?
Posted by: bonnell=procton | Jun 26, 2008 1:17:20 PM
Compare what Mayo has done in the NBA to what Wallace has done in the NBA please.
And "maybe whomever we pick up at 20 can help shore up the sf/pf slot.", keyword there maybe. Trading Wallace to move up like that is pointless. Draft two players tonight and then if you really wanna get rid of Wallace, trade 'em later for someone more proven.

All good points. The 5 game win streak without him was great. But he is a work horse and creates shots for himself and others. he is a proven player and scores at will often. He plays hurt and has no ego. He is a team player and plays defense. The fans have come to love Gerald and I think getting rid of him for an unproven rookie is a bad idea unless it is Beasley.

It was 9-11 overall without him (would have been 10-10 if Richardson hadn't thrown the ball to Pierce setting up Ray Allen's buzzer beater. They were 0-4 in McInnis led games. In the non-McInnis games they were 8-7 and like I said, a J-Rich throwaway from being 9-6.
People tend to be very nostaligic when it comes to Gerald, but his impact on the team is not as great as his impact on fans. He has great potential, but the team plays as a more cohesive unit when he does not play.
And I am not saying this strictly as a matter of skillset matching. Maybe if he came off the bench providing energy, offense, etc. it would preserve him and improve the team. But the reality is that the team functioned better with the Felton Carroll Richardson trio than the Felton Richardson Wallace trio, especially since we did not have a frontcourt player who could step out, shoot, and spread the floor.

Trading away Wallace would be a terrible move and makes little sense.....which means MJ will absolutely pull the trigger

Why would the Grizz want Crash when they have Gay at the 3?
Posted by: Slam | Jun 26, 2008 1:57:40 PM
Because they could effectively move Gay to the 4 as we do with Wallace.
Posted by: Michael Procton | Jun 26, 2008 3:17:04 PM
Actually you would have Gay or Wallace at the 2 since they are looking to move Mike Miller as well. As much as I would like to see Wallace gone today, I would like it even more when we trade him at the deadline and we are 8-10 games out of the playoffs and we send him to a team that needs that 6th man and the Bobcats go on a run and make the playoffs, then maybe everyone will see he just didn't fit here. And for guys talking about suring up the SF/PF, that is stupid. We need either a true PG or a True Center. We don't need any tweeners or wing players.

Wallace is a nice player, but is not all that different than J-Rich, who is a better shooter. Both of them are a luxury on a roster that has big holes elsewhere.
If we can move him to land a real difference maker, yeah it'll hurt, but standing pat gets us no where.
Posted by: JAT | Jun 26, 2008 4:10:18 PM
We need a frontcourt player who can rebound AND shoot the ball, spreading the floor on offense. I don't know if this is what you are calling stupid. It is reality. If you are talking about a Koufos type center who can step out, it is one thing. But if you are talking about another post player to play beside Okafor who also has to do all his work in the lane as well, I just cannot agree unless you are looking to move Okafor.
This is not 1995. At least one of your big guys has to be able to step out and knock down shots while providing a pick and pop option.
