Bobcats (0-2 preseason) by the numbers

- Coach Larry Brown laments how much his team loves the 3-point line. So far the 3-point line hasn’t loved back; this team has made 25 percent of its 3s (7-of-28). It doesn’t help that rookie D.J. Augustin is 1-of-7 from that range.

          - The opponents (Orlando and

Memphis

) are averaging 10 more free throws per game than the Bobcats. That might be understandable against the Magic, a situation where no one was going to keep Dwight Howard and Rashard Lewis off the line. But the Grizzlies, inexperienced by any NBA measure, were just as effective drawing fouls.

Center Emeka Okafor has committed eight fouls in under 48 minutes.

- Turnovers are just choking this team’s offense and leading to easy baskets at the other end. They’re averaging 22 turnovers, resulting in 26.5 opponent points in these first two exhibitions.

          - Brown said he needs Sean May, among other big men, to focus less on scoring and more on defense and rebounding. May has four rebounds in 36 minutes. Compare that to Andre Brown, who has 12 rebounds in 30 minutes.

Can you learn some html and write your blog in a smaller font? This looks like a 10-yr old is typing.

Bonnell, at least we can rest assured that one thing from last year will be the same this year---and that is your idiotic comments..Coach may have changed but that will be the same!!!

Hey, lets get some per possession statistics! :)

Do the Bobcats have the most obnoxious fans in this league? Four comments above, and none of them has anything to do with the team - just spewing hatred against Bonnell... (and we didn't even get today the usual racists and anti-NBA posters).
You, wise Roy Waller, since you're so annoyed with Rick's comments, can you at least provide some detail? As in, what was so "idiotic" about these comments, and what do you have to offer instead?

Everytime the Bobs play Orlando or New Orleans I get sick thinking how they couldve had Howard or Paul if they just moved up one spot in the draft. Instead they have a bunch of undersized players who cant defend & miss shots, & big men who are unatheletic & cant make free throws. Bad draft decision & bad personal decision have really hurt this team. Its hard trying to root for this team when management seems like it doesnt care, they dont take this team seriously so why should I?

The Bobcats are going through a paradigm shift. Brown is trying to break the players out of bad habits and these things take time. I know most people don't want to be patient with this team, but patience is a must.

AAAh i thought it was just me damn BONNELL can you wite in a smaller font or is there a reason you write like a 5 year old?
You know what for the last 3-4 drafts the management have srewed up.Felton is the only real legitimate draft pick we have, and even that's starting to look grim now.We could have had Brandon Roy,Rudy Gay oh no thanks to poor scouting we go with busts.

Posted by: rufus | Oct 12, 2008 4:19:54 PM

AMEN, Rufus! FELTON IS A STUD! Zero made shots in two games, and Fatty McMay can't get a rebound to save his life. But Dont' worry about it, Tar Heel fanboys. Blame this team's problems on Gerald Wallace, or Emeka Okafor. What a disaster. But at least we have a coach who's been really successful lately...WHOOPS.

Posted by: Michael Procton | Oct 12, 2008 9:14:07 PM

BRAVO PROCTO! You're a little late with the Tarheel but none the less. Okafor's outstanding footwork & inside play combined with his stellar free throw shooting is what we need, your right. Against Orlando, he always plays like the 54 million dollar stud first round pick he is. Time to clear the roster of dead weight (Davidson,Hollins,Carroll,Felton, May,Mohammed,Morrison).

By far and away the worst draft the Bobcats have had was when they picked Morrison over B. Roy and R. Gay- but hey who saw that coming (other than freakin' everybody that doesn't wear 'great white hype' glasses). It certainly would have been a good move to snag Paul or Williams when, and if, we had the chance, but hey we drafted a pg this year (when we could have had any number of promising big men- B Lopez, J Thompson, M Speights- but who needs big men?)
We need to nationalize the draft operations of the Bobcats before they plumet Charlotte into NBA purgatory...

2 games into the preseason and we already have a classic tarheel bashing post by Mr. Procton. You might want to save some of that Michael. Don't want to use up all the good stuff before the season actually starts.

Posted by: apauldds | Oct 13, 2008 9:43:39 AM

Sorry, ap...it's hard to separate bashing Tar Heels from the team when they make up the vast majority of its personnel.

And next season: Tyler Hansbrough

Posted by: apauldds | Oct 13, 2008 11:53:43 AM

Hey Rufus, Did you notice that Brook Lopez had 13 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 2 steals in his preseason debut--a win against Miami? Also, Jerryd Bayless has not disappointed Portland. Maybe there's a trend developing here....

Posted by: DeLaQuest | Oct 13, 2008 2:51:04 PM

Token, patience is getting old. We keep making the same excuses for our young drafted players, while young players that we passed on shine for other teams--NOW.

Surely, Larry Brown knew what he was getting into with this team. He wants them to drive to the basket. But, WHO? Our explosive athletes are average ballhandlers AT BEST, and our better ballhandlers are physically-limited, or just tiny point guards that are supposed to be "pass-first" in the offense anyway.

Marvel here is something else that will make you sick.

When New Orleans and Paul vist this season, remember we could have the Hornets playing in this empty arena if only Pat McCroy had forced the tax payers to build the Hornets one instead of this Bob Johnson one.

Would it be possible to trade the BobJohnson Cats for the Hornets?

Posted by: Bob | Oct 13, 2008 6:13:01 PM

I am sorry, Bob and I were drunk during the draft and we drafted from the wrong list.

I was shut up in a room because Bob would not pay me an appearance fee. I was surfing for white women on the internet.

We are thinking about letting Dean Smith come and sit on the bench. The only concern we have is if he will be able to stand after each BobJohnson Cat score. (That's what we did at the Tar Heel school)

But on second thought no more that the Bobcats score Dean should be ok.

We will have to make sure he does not wander up to the upper level. It is so high up there that he will lost oxygen to his brain. (Did I mention we have some cheap seats. You can sit upstairs and watch the bigscreen.

Well I better get going If Bob ever gets to Charlotte he and I have a double date tonight.
