Cost-cutting wasn't factor for tickets' look

Some of you wrote e-mails to me the past two days, questioning why the Bobcats sent out generic-looking tickets to their season-ticket holders.

The Bobcats say that wasn’t a cost-saving measure, but rather an urgent reaction when a custom printer went out of business.

According to the team, Mercury Graphics printed tickets for about 10 NBA teams, including the Bobcats. They recently went out of business following a strike. Knowing they had to get tickets into the hands of their customers before the regular season, the Bobcats chose speed over style and printed those generic tickets.

In these times when the Bobcats are so cost-conscious, I can see why some season-ticket holders wondered about this decision. But a team spokesman told me a letter was included in the ticket packages, explaining the pinch the Bobcats were in when Mercury Graphics went out of business.

Also on the topic of fan relations: I hear not every cable outlet in the Carolinas carried FSN South’s telecast of the Bobcats’ preseason game in Orlando. It will be similarly spotty for the telecast of Saturday’s exhibition against the Atlanta Hawks.

This isn’t a Bobcats issue, it’s an FSN South issue. Fox is in negotiations with non-Time Warner cable operators about televising Bobcats games. There’s a surcharge to do that, and it’s still an open question how many

Carolinas cable operators will agree to pay that surcharge by the time the regular season begins.

I appreciate your clarification of these issues. Lord knows people are always looking for reasons to ridicule the Bobcats.

Please. And update us with news pertaining to the Bobcats as a team and not the poorly run front office. We all know what goes on there. Info such as this latest post takes the focus off the team. They're who I want to hear about.

Does everyone realize Bonnell gets paid for some of these lame blog posts. I wonder how he sleeps some nights stealing money like that from the Observer.

Hey Caleb...
"Some of you wrote e-mails to me the past two days, questioning why the Bobcats sent out generic-looking tickets to their season-ticket holders."

So it would seem if you're interested in hearing about something different, perhaps you should email Mr. Bonnell yourself. For a team desperate to get fans behind it, the notion that they'd blow off some of the few solid backers they've got (as they did last year when they didn't even get the preseason tickets out before the games happened) is scary.

Procton,
WTF are you talking about? Why would my emailing of Bonnell get me any different news than what is reported? Do you think Bonnell would give me some insider news that he wouldn't give to anyone else? Please.
I want to hear what is up with the new coach, new players, players returning from injuries, etc. Not things that the Bobcats, in this case, have no control over anyway.

Mr. Bonnell, you seem to be responding to blog posts a lot more often, even though in the past people still bashed you or the team just as much as they do now. Any particular reason for your posts?
