Dean Smith pays Bobcats a visit
Bobcats coach Larry Brown would love to get Dean Smith back into basketball.
That’s not to suggest the retired North Carolina coach (and Brown mentor) needs or wants a job. It’s more that Brown sees Smith as an exceptional resource.
Smith visited training camp at UNC Wilmington this week, eating with the coaching staff Tuesday night, then watching practice Wednesday. Brown said he and managing partner Michael Jordan explored offering Smith a consulting role with the team, but Smith isn’t interested.
“I miss seeing him coach,’’ said Brown, who played for Smith as a Tar Heel, then served as an assistant coach. “If it wasn’t for (the demands of media obligations) and speaking and correspondences, he’d probably still be coaching.’’
Brown says he picks Smith’s brain constantly because, as Brown put it, his mentor is still ahead of the game of basketball.
“All the time,’’ Brown said. “He’s always real careful about not over-stepping bounds, but everything I believe in came right out of his mouth.’’

He quit coaching because you can't smoke on the bench.

Dumbass. He quit smoking in the '80s.

Coach K as we all know is a better coach, stay put Dean, bout time for that oxygen

Great. The Bobcats went from a control freak A-hole coach to one that takes advice from a retired has been who hasn't coached in over a decade. This does not bode well for the future.

He still smokes pole though

Well as successful as we've been hiring people on the sole fact that they came from UNC, I can't imagine WHY we wouldn't want to do it again!

Man I am so drunk right now. Can't you tell by my big red nose? I won't coach in Charlotte though. CMPD will actually write me up for DUIs, whereas Chapel Hill's finest simply praises me and gives me a police escort home.
Oh yeah, and I can't recruit in the NBA, and the 4 corners is no good in the shot clock era.

Michael Procton...I see you comment on every damn story about the Bobcats. And you contribute NOTHING. SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!

With all the UNC influence this team has it's shocking they can't make the playoffs. We are talking about superstars from UNC. It should payoff this year...finally.

Procton... what's all the WE stuff? When did you buy into the team? You should change your moniker to CATFISH Procton.....all mouth and full of sh*t.

Hahaha, Larry Brown ruined Starbury? Wow, I think you and Satbury are the only two people on Earth who believe that. Wait, no, Starbury still thinks he is an elite player and a team player, so only you believe that.

Larry Brown did nothing to screw up the knicks. That would be alter boy Isiah, and your idiotic owner. And Procton your an idiot, nough said.
The best thing that could happen for the Bobcats is for Bob Johnson to sell them. Imagine the support they would have if the NBA whould have given Larry Birds group the rights to this franchise

Matt, looking at Procton.s comment's now I understand why he was a 1 year wonder at UNC.

Matt, looking at Procton's comments it is easy to figure out why he lasted at UNC only ONE year
Posted by: jd | Oct 2, 2008 7:01:48 PM
Hmm, jd...and it's a different reason from the one that never even got you there. I know the difference between a period and an apostrophe.
Posted by: Michael Procton | Oct 3, 2008 12:25:52 AM
Really Procton? So for a long period, will you make like an apostrophe and split?

I am responsibe for teaching MJ how to be the best traveler in the NBA.
MJ has more Traveling miles than everyone put together. Now we know why he never got called on it.
David Stern had MJ's career all planned out. Including the Titles. Including allowing MJ to play while being a gambling addict as well as a adulter.
The NBA is dead. Watch WWF and get a few laughs.
