Morrison to start against Jazz

Updates off Monday's shoot-around in Salt Lake City:

- Bobcats coach Larry Brown says he’ll start Adam Morrison tonight against the Utah Jazz, but it’s obvious from how much Juwan Howard is practicing with the starters that Morrison is on a short leash.

Morrison’s confidence appears shaky after he struggled the past two games as a fill-in starter for the injured Gerald Wallace. Brown thinks Morrison has a better chance of guarding Jazz small forward C.J. Miles primarily a jump-shooter than he would against more of a slasher-style small forward.

Bottom line: You’re going to see a lot of Howard at power forward, with Boris Diaw sliding over to small forward, while Wallace is out. A team that now has a thin bench needs to lean on Howard’s experience and Diaw’s versatility to get by.

- Brown loves Diaw’s creative passing, but he’s coaxing Diaw to shoot more.

"He changed the culture of our team because he’s so unusual,’’ Brown said. "But he passes up good shots. There’s a fine line with him (in terms of passing too much). He’ll take 19-20 shots one game and the next game six or seven.’’

A 49 percent from the field, Diaw has the second-best field-goal percentage among active Bobcats, behind Emeka Okafor’s 58 percent.

- What’s become of Okafor’s rebounding? He had five boards each against the Blazers and Nuggets, which is half of his typical productivity. He’s also taken nine or fewer shots in five of the last seven games.

Particularly with Wallace out, Okafor has to be a big factor as a rebounder and low-post scorer.

- Rookie point guard D.J. Augustin (abdominal strain) is no longer feeling the pain that delayed his return to the active roster. The target date for his return is now Friday at home versus the Atlanta Hawks or Sunday in Miami against the Heat.

Sean Singletary hasn’t played well of late (three points and no assists in his last two games), so the Bobcats need help backing up Raymond Felton. Diaw could play some spot minutes at the point.

What about the player they signed to a 10 day contract from the D league? He was shooting the ball pretty well from the 3pt range when I watched them play. Any word he may stay with the team?

Greg: Too soon to tell about Cartier Martin. There's certainly no plus to committing to him beyond the current contract yet.

Adam Morrison is at a career crossroads. After riding the pine, he's getting a chance at some real minutes because of all the injuries. Now, he needs to step up and earn those minutes. I certainly hope he can - the Bobcats really need him to step up with Gerald being hurt.

Seriously, I think this next month or so will determine whether or not Morrison can become a decent NBA player or if he'll be out of the league in a year or two when his contract expires.

Morrison has proven to be nothing short of a wasted draft pick to this point. If he contiunues to start and perform at his current level, we potentially lose a game in the standings each time that happens.

By the way Rick.....you have a mustache or you don't? The observer has photos of you both ways on this site. You need to straighten them out!

Come on Adam Morrison, fight for your NBA career. At least you can say you really tried. Do what LB asks and be aggressive at the same time.

The magic went away when he diced off the hair...
...no, I know, he never had any magic to begin with.

Okafor needs to "be a big factor," yes, but the team has done a PITIFUL job of feeding the post in the last few games.

Adam Morrison was the guy when he played for Gonzaga.
He was the leading score his junior season.
His first year here he shot the ball very well and his statistics prove that.
In addition his coach Bernie Bickerstaff instilled confidence in a young player and Adam responded.
Remember Adam is returning from a torn ACL injury!
The games I attend and watch it’s obvious to me that Brown has Morrison nervous and jerks him out of the line up for any little mistake.
He doesn’t do that with the other players.
Since the LA game the Bobcats have stunk so why not let Morrison shoot and get his confidence back.
Check out the last 2 games, the Bobcats got their butts kicked badly, and it’s not because the playing time Morrison was getting.
You get confidence by playing and told to shoot the ball not by sitting on the bench.
Lets don’t get ahead of ourselves if Bernie was still coaching you would see better results with as much talent as the Bobcats have now and you would see better results out of Morrison.
Let him out of his contract and play for another team. The guys a shooter he should be encouraged to shoot.
He hasn’t forgotten how to shoot since his college days.

I remember when John Smoltz of the Atlanta Braves was struggling to get the ball over the plate. He flat out sucked. They hired a sports psychologist for him. He turned it around and won the Cy Young award not long afterwards. Adam Morrison has lost it mentally. Not crazy house psycho ward lost it. I mean he has lost his ability to mentally compete and shoot the basketball. He is done. It's all in the man's head. Hire a sports shrink for him!
