Anticipate some Bobcats roster tweeks
Some things I wouldn't be surprised happen between now and the start of Bobcats training camp:
-- A trade of one of the centers for a forward: It's going to be tough to distribute minutes between Tyson Chandler, Gana Diop and Nazr Mohammed. The Bobcats obviously need a reliable backup power forward. I think there have been some discussions and Golden State and Dallas seem logical trade partners. I don't expect Juwan Howard to be back as a Bobcat. I hear there's a good chance of him ending up in Portland, a better bet for the playoffs.
-- A resolution to the Raymond Felton negotiations that avoid him signing the qualifying offer. From what I hear, a deal that gets him in the vicinity of $7 million per season would get that done.
-- Some closure on the Allen Iverson situation. He really wants to be a Bobcat but -- and you've heard this before -- that won't happen unless some other deal occurs to open playing time in the backcourt and improve the Bobcats in another area.

Interesting timing for a random bunch of blurbs. Nothing really new besides the Felton 7mm number (interesting stuff). So I guess my question is what spurred this piece? Bored on a Fri night? Something is brewing and this is a way to mention that without saying too much? Didn't meet a quota this week? It just seems odd that with all the Iverson Memphis talk and rumored deadline today this is what get posted. I like as many posts as I can, this just seems a little random to me.

Dang Felton, you want him to just make shit up to give you a fix?

What's a "tweek"? I think you must mean "Tweak".

I think a lot of us are sitting here waiting for something to break - whether it be Feltons contract or AI - training camp is coming quickly and it seems like no one is thinking about basketball yet... who's steering this boat??!

Seriously Felton For Pres...Shutup. I'm just glad anything is being written about the Bobcats...

Felton for Pres, I figure he has to write something at least once a week to get his paycheck.
Turning down Iverson to pay Felton 7m/year would turn out to be one of the stupidest moves this organization has ever made, and that's saying a lot.
Let Felton take the QO and sign Iverson.

Trade Nazr Mohammed to the OK City Thunder for PF Nick Collison. Solid player who would work hard and fit in well in Larry Browns system. Contracts are virtually identical.

It's "TWEAKS." Lord God no wonder NC's schools are in such horrid shape. And you wonder why people make fun of the state. Hay - hir a editer.

First, I've been saying that they need to send a C packing for a while now. Second, Give the guy a break, it's the OFFseason, we're lucky to have anything to chew on right now.

I personally think signing would completly
ruin what little team chemistry the Bobcats now have. A.I. will always be all for himself.

This has to be the most boring offseason in the history of mankind.
Posted by: Ari | Sep 5, 2009 4:11:59 AM
Come on Felts, let's do this.
To the guy who said,"No wonder NC schools are in such horrid shape." That's because North Carolinians cry about anything that looks like a tax increase even they no their schools need improvement. Then they have the nerve to go PAY for private schools. Go figure.

If my numbers are correct Felton at 7 average would be starting out at 5.6 (with 10% raises), which is almost exactly what his QO is.
That contract would have no influence on whether or not we bring in AI...we'd have the same left over either way.

Hoopsfan - Actually, I'd rather he not write anything at all than recycle stuff that's been written before. Posts for the sake of posts do nothing for me. As a fan, I feel we deserve more. Interview a player about what they've done in the offseason...comment on the Sessions signing and how that might (or might not) impact the Felton deal. There is stuff out there and its not that big a reach to actually find it instead of rehash the last 10 posts.

Was Felton worth an average of $8Million per season last summer? of course not, and that is why he's not worth (in NBA terms) $7Million this summer to a long term contract. Sign of the times, the NBA teams are being forced to pay less for the talent, Felton's agent hasn't figured that out yet.
If he signs a 6 year deal for 30-40 Million total Felton will be happy as a lark, he's not flambouyant, his parents are local and keep him grounded. Most importantly he gets long term security.

The Bobcats has a chance to get a great basketball player, a known superstar, a future Hall of Famer, and a bargain in signing Iverson. Also a chance to get into a playoff spot. They also can make money in ticket and jersey sales. What are this team thinking? They will be making a big mistake by not jumping at this oppuntunity. Wherever Iverson goes, the other teams will wish they had got AI. They will be sorry that they listen to all that garbage about an unfortunate last season. AI will prove them wrong.
Posted by: sweetrose | Sep 5, 2009 12:32:02 PM
I have to agree sweetrose. Look, Iverson by no means makes you a title contender, but he would make the season a whole lot more enjoyable, give you a winning record, and probably secure a spot in the playoffs. Instead, with less than a month before training camp, the team has been left dragging their feet. No backup PF, no new owner, no Iverson, no Felton, no free agent period. The Chandler/Okafor trade is a was at best. Unless, they do some things rather quickly, it will really have been a lost summer. Damn shame when the playoffs were there for the taking, but sometimes winning isn't always the number one priority.

If Felton signs for 7mil/season its gonna fit right in with, say, Matt Carroll, Adam Morrsion, Nazr Mo, Sean May, JRich, and Okafor... Wouldn't you say all these players weren't worth it, whether in salary, draft selection, or what we gave up in a trade?
On the other hand, AI, hall of famer, seat filler, and bulk scorer for under 5mil for 1 year... well to some people I guess thats a bad move. Matt Carroll made more than that every year he played here (minus the first).

Iverson, if given the minutes, will be in the top five in scoring in the league, the top twenty in assists and the top five in steals.
Felton should come off the bench behind Augustin but only in blowouts. Otherwise, he should get no minutes. Trade him and his poor shooting at the trade deadline. Needless to say, don't give him anything more than the qualifying offer.
Posted by: Bill | Sep 6, 2009 6:59:56 AM
I have a feeling Iverson will sign with the Grizzlies in the coming days. What a waste!
Posted by: Ari | Sep 6, 2009 3:49:13 PM
to nick......if felton doesn't sign, he'll fit right in with eddie house, keith bogans, walter hermann, and other talented guys we let go. 7 mil a year for a young long term starting pg of his caliber is not too much. matt carroll was overpaid for sitting on the bench. he wasn't overpaid for his talent. and can we all get over the dream of nazr mohommed getting traded. nobody is taking that bum in a recession. gana neither. we need some insurance money from those guys fast.

Bonnell is bound to be right one of these days by playing both sides of the fence. Anticipate roster tweaks, well duh, don't be surprised if they trade a center for a power forward, well duh, who else are they going to trade to get someone, Gerald Wallace. Give us some real reporting. Didn't Bonnell and the Observer say the Bobcats would be sold in two weeks, three weeks ago. Please Observer, get another reporter, this guy is horrible.
Posted by: William | Sep 7, 2009 11:31:37 AM
Wow charlottean, you should really read what you wrote... If we let him go he'll fit in with guys like, who, Keith Bogans? Really? Bogans, you're gonna build him up? Any NBA fan outside of CHA looks at Bogans as a 12th man on the pine. I love Herrman as much as the next Bobcats fan and hated that trade but come on, if the dudes getting more than 14 minutes a game your teams got issues. Geez... thanks for proving my point.
