Brown on Blair and trade possibilities
Plenty of candid comments by Charlotte Bobcats coach Larry Brown at practice Thursday.
On whether they would have chosen San Antonio Spurs rookie DeJuan Blair, had he lasted three more spots to the Bobcats' No. 40 overall pick: "Absolutely. Michael (Jordan) loved him. We all did, but there was an issue about his knee. To take a gamble with an early first-round pick, we all weighed, (knowing power forward) was a need of ours. They thought the risk might be too great (in the lottery), but with the second round, yeah. We had him rated really high. He was rated in the top 15.''
On the likelihood of making another trade this season: "Everybody is posturing themselves right now as the All-Star break (comes up and teams network). People are maybe not being real fair in what they want. I think when the (deadline) comes, you'll see some things (loosen up) around the league and hopefully we can improve.''
What's improved of late? "From a coaching aspect, I think we're doing a better job of figuring out how to utilize Boris (Diaw), now that we've got Stephen (Jackson). I think (Diaw's) play has gotten a lot better.
(on his concerns): "My biggest concern is the amount of minutes we've been playing guys. When you look that we've got a back-to-back (Friday and Saturday) and then a short turnaround to a Monday (afternoon) game, we've got to utilize our bench a little bit more. Not in the backcourt -- our backcourt is deep and very effective -- but we've got to get some other people playing.''

Derrick Brown can play at least 10 quality minutes a game. I boggles my mind that he has some many DNP-CDs.

I hope our bench can contribute more these next few games, as we'll need all of our players to be 100% ready. With SA, PHO on the block, it's going to be a slug fest to get the Ws. The good news is that these teams rely on running the score to win their games...as long as we hold our own and can be on top of our defense, we will be in all of these games, and hope to pull out the Ws.
Crazy to think that come next Monday, the 'Cats could be above .500 and quite possibly #5 in the playoff spot. Crazy!

Kenneth, don't get too far ahead of yourself. This time is playing great, and I have all the confidence in the world in them, but they've got a back to back with San Antonio and PHX that they have to win to get to that point. I think this team will get to .500 or better before the season is out, just not this soon.

This is great news. Thanks for the update Rick. We cannot keep playing Jax and Crash for almost the whole game, every game. The rookies need to get more time to alleviate the load that our starters take by playing 45 mpg.

Can we trade Boris Diaw and Acie Law for Antawn Jamison ??? Rick....your thoughts please

We should try to get Boozer since he has the expiring contract and he will make us a playoff lock. Dont want to see the Cats strapped down with all these aging guys with there long term deals.

I like the idea of the Jamison trade. They should go for Tyrus Thomas, but not give up any of the rookies. Keep up the good work Rick. I check out the website everyday. I may be the only fan from Alaska, but I got enough love for the Bobcats for the whole state.

I will take Boozer, Jamison, Thomas, all day...it would be a huge upgrade and would make us a more complete team

A Bobcat fan in Alaska!?!?!?! That is way cool.

They should've just taken Hansbrough in the 1st round, because Henderson can't even get in the game. Or they could've traded up their 2nd round pick when they saw Blair dropping, I was screaming at the televesion for the Cats to do this when I saw him drop. It just seems they were content to be passive on draft night and take whatever came to them, rather than going out and getting the player they actually wanted.

I'm from Poland and I really love bobcats. I hope they win that 2 games with SA and PHX.

i still don't understand the dejuan blair injury sentiment when he wasn't injury prone in college at all. let's put it in perspective......number one picks greg oden and blake griffin out for the season.....numerous 1st round picks not cracking rotations.......
and blair is starting having games like 28 and 21 as a mid/late second round pick. i remember yelling at the tv screen in june when we took henderson instead of blair. little did i know that it wasn't just our scouting department but the entire league that had their heads up their a's.

I LOVED Blair and knew his game would translate to the NBA, BUT, is he gonna have more than 2 or 3 good seasons? I think his issue is longevity with no ACL's.

I'm glad the 'cats are playing well. Hopefully they continue to perform and don't make any idiotic trades to counter the improvements they've made to payroll. Here's a cool link to the player salaries: http://hoopshype.com/salaries/charlotte.htm
With the salary cap around $70M next year the team's in decent shape other than Diop's rediculous contract. Hopefully we can sign Ray to a reasonable contract in the offseason.
