Ratliff for a future 2nd-rounder
Confirmed: Spurs sending center Theo Ratliff to the Bobcats for a future second-round pick.
The Bobcats obviously had open roster spots and Ratliff has a history with Larry Brown. But bringing him in says plenty about the concern over the healthy of the centers, particularly Tyson Chandler's chronic leg and foot problems.

Tyrus is a Bobcat

isn't it just a tad ironic that theo ratliff has been aquired as "insurance" for our injured centers?
i hope this means we can cut or banish gana diop and just refer to his 6 or 7 million as a charitable donation tax write off and or cap penalty.

Theo Ratliff as insurance?? That doesn't make any sense? He was a veteran when Philly went to the finals......in 2001!!! I know you don't get tons of talent in 2nd round picks but sheesh, you can still pick up value guys like Derrick Brown and Dejuan Blair! How much does Ratliff have in the tank? And at 37, how can he effectively gaurd those pick and rolls by some of these lightning quick PG's?

So we got 2 point guards, 1 experienced shooting guard diguised as a small forward, 0 draft picks and 4 stiffs at center(apologies to Nazr).
Maybe there are more post deadline moves coming?

I guess the Lakers wanted more than a 2nd round pick for Wilt Chamberlin?
I would have felt better if that 2nd round pick had gone for Drew Gooden. It was said the Clippers might even buyout his contract.

Smitty:
Sadly, it does make sense -- that's how concerned they are about the injuries, with the playoffs hanging in the balance. I'm just glad they were pro-active, whether or not Ratliff works out.
As to the Thomas trade, it's finally been approved by the NBA lawyers. I was reluctant to call it done until then because of the complication of sending a future pick to Chicago, since they already owe one to Minnesota. You can't trade first-round picks in consecutive years.

Ratliff is a bum! I really hope Nazr, Tyson or Gana can get healthy quick, because if Theo Huxtable suits up at the 5 for long we're on the outside looking in.

@FaithandTruth...Drew Gooden would have been a better fit but we cant wait to see what happens in LA, we needed to move today
with Tyson "glass foot" Chandler always on the shelf and Nazr's back actin up..a move had to be made

the biggest hopes involved here is that theo ratliff can be a good mentor to thomas and ajinca. and keep gana off the floor.
ratliff is a career 71% free throw shooter. there are bobcats fans that don't even know what it feels like to have a center making more than 65%.

Sure does look bad for Ajinca....he now has 4 guys in front of him (5 if you count Thomas's since he has the ability to swing over).
I agree that it's hilarious to have Ratliff as injury protection; while serviceable, he's an injury just waiting to happen.

Rick...Woj at Yahoo reports this as a conditional pick that the Spurs will likely never see. Is that what you hear?
Posted by: Michael Procton | Feb 18, 2010 5:38:19 PM
Procton, I read the same thing. So probably we just rented Ratliff for the rest of the season at a pro-rata of his contract.
And for all those idiots out there. Having one more "CHEAP" big man is better than having "NONE".

ajinca has 5 guys ahead of them, most are over 8 years older than him and still suck. the guy is gonna be a starter in this league regardless of whether its us or someone else i just hope its us since we invested the time and money to develop him. its not like he's a bum, he was a D-league all-star this year.
and rob you can't say "another" cheap big....all of our other bigs are grossly overpaid (although nazr started earning his money this year).

the bobcats got rid of the second round pick to save money, ratliff is just a roster spot.
