Brown on Clippers speculation
Charlotte Bobcats coach Larry Brown side-stepped a question about SI.com's report that he inquired about whether the Los Angeles Clippers would be interested in hiring him as coach.
I followed up with this question: Are you committed to being here long-term?
"It's up to Michael,'' Brown replied, suggesting -- as Brown has in the past -- that he'd like to be here as long as he's working for Michael Jordan.
Brown has two more years on his contract, based on what Jordan said the day Brown was hired. I think Brown is happy here. I think he would have been far less interested in being here had Jordan not stepped up just before the deadline to buy controlling interest.
The wild card in this is Brown's family situation -- his wife and two teenage children still live in Philadelphia, and I don't expect they'll move here. Brown met his current wife in Los Angeles, when he coached the Clippers.

Sounds like Coach Brown wants Jordan to come out and show some love, Rick. Brown's a great coach no doubt, perhaps the best in the business, but clearly he has a wanderlust so any potential move can't be completely discounted. Doesn't sound like LB was all too strong in refuting the speculation either. Again, I think his relationship with Jordan is strong, but the allure of total control from the Clippers could be pretty big. Remember that Bill Parcells line about wanting to buy the groceries to make the dinner. In any event, the most important thing for now is leading the Bobcats to the playoffs this season and they can take a big step in that direction starting in about 20 minutes.

How selfish is this old man. MJ gave you a chance to regain you reputation after the knicks and Olympics and this is how you repay him. And don't give me that he was looking for a back up plan. Brown does not need that. He would get offers if he were to wait till the end of the season. Now you are saying "its up to Michael" No its up to you. And do you think about the distraction this will cause the players.

I've actually met Coach Brown a few times and followed his career very closely. He couldn't have been a nicer guy in person by the way. Anyway, I don't think he's selfish, but more so a bit of a neurotic perfectionist and a worrier. I honestly believe that he frets about every little thing and if he thought Jordan were leaving, or anything else were bothering him, he would pursue other interests. Again, hopefully he stays and this is all speculation, but I've never been one to take shots and Brown for jumping ship. It's usually organizations which show little loyalty to the coach, but Brown has a way of leaving on his own terms and that's a unique thing in this day and age.

I can understand being weary of new management if the Postolos investment group actually won the bid, but going to work for Dunleavy?
