UNC-Wilmington hasn't approached Ford

If UNC-Wilmington is interested in Charlotte Bobcats assistant Phil Ford as their next men's basketball coach, that's news to Ford.

There was chatter Monday out of Wilmington that the Seahawks might pursue Ford. They'll have an opening, with former assistant Brooks Lee coaching on an interim basis, after Benny Moss was relieved of his duties in late January.

Ford said before last night's Bobcats-Dallas Mavericks game that he hasn't been contacted, and if he were, he'd have to defer any job interviews

"I'd be flattered,'' Ford said. "But I wouldn't be thinking of doing anything during our season.''

After tonights meltdown, Larry Brown may be interested.....He called his team a AAU team in the second half. Where is Jim Mora when you need him....Playoffs, playoffs???

Will they start playing defense if they change their name/logo? If so, let's get some graphics people started asap.

Phil Ford has always "been interested" in every job that Dean and family could get him a look. There is a reason he has never been a head coach after years of being a lifetime assistant. When Jerry Wainwright was hired at UNCW from Wake Forest back in the mid 90's there was a big push from local Wilmington UNC boosters and Dean Smith to bring Ford to Wilmington. At the time UNCW's AD Paul Miller had the b*lls to stand up to Smith and say no. Let's hope the administration at UNCW can fight the "blues" and say no again.

Honestly, Phil Ford needs to stay in Charlotte. I too find it interesting that he has never been a head coach at the D1 level?? Why didnt they let him take over at UNC after Gutheridge left? Hmmmmmmmmmm maybe it was the little problem with throwing a few back and getting behind the wheel. UNCW can do a helluva lot better than Phil Ford.

Wilmington would be lucky to get a special person like Phil Ford. He has a heart of gold and talent beyond measure.
We are reminded this Easter weekend of God's love and that he gave his son for us because we are NOT perfect. We do and will make mistakes in our life. I doubt very seriously the person criticizing Phil is without sin or even begins to have as much talent as he has in basketball.
