Augustin, Jackson in Orlando
Class moves by D.J. Augustin and Stephen Jackson to come to Orlando and practice with the Charlotte Bobcats' summer league team.
Neither is obligated to be here. In fact, neither would be eligible to play games next week in the Orlando summer league. But they showed up anyway for Thursday's morning practice to support the process.
Augustin, who admitted Thursday he's coming off a bad season, is the only Bobcats point guard under contract for next season. Jackson is just plain a basketball junkie.
Neither one got much run at the Magic's training facility. That's because the floor was slippery, apparently from condensation, so the Bobcats limited their first practice to a walk-through of plays. The team hopes to get the moisture problem fixed before a 5 p.m. second practice.
By the way, coach Larry Brown isn't here, due to a family vacation planned before the Bobcats committed to fielding a summer-league team. Assistant Dave Hanners is running practices.
Plenty more to come in Friday's Observer, including a story on Gerald Henderson's determination to get off the bench next season.

Thanks Rick..looking forward to your reports. Gotta love Jax for that level of dedication. Good idea by DJ also, but he needs the work given his "shortcomings" from last season.

DJ is going to have to fill the role felton played as a leader of this team if he plans on making it work. He's gonna have to be the first one in last to leave type that felton has been. This is a good start.

I guess this report points to the fact that it would be even harder for the Bobcats to get Felton. It says he would welcome a sign and trade. New Jersey, Miami, Indiana and Memphis are some of the Teams interested. Can we get Mike Conley in return for Felton? How about OJ Mayo??? Jajaja!!!

What are the eligibility requirements for the summer league? Why would Darius Miles be eligible and DJ Augustin not?

Darius Miles isn't under contract to the Bobcats. D.J. is. Players already on your regular-season roster aren't usually eligible to play summer league after their second pro season. Ajinca is an exception because he was injured a long stretch of last season.
The rule of thumb is summer league is for rookies, very young veterans and guys looking for jobs.
