Silas, Bobcats A Good Fit
It makes sense that the Bobcats and Paul Silas are discussing a contract extension.
Since taking over for Larry Brown on Dec. 22, Silas has done a masterful job of reshaping the Bobcats into a freer, more efficient team that has a reasonable chance of making its second straight playoff appearance. That possibility was a long way off in mid-December when the Bobcats were losing by 33 to the Washington Wizards.
During his retirement at Lake Norman after his coaching stint in Cleveland ended, Silas paid close attention to the Bobcats and when the call came asking him to fix them, he had an immediate impact.
After listening to Brown dissect every move, the Bobcats responded to Silas’s different approach. He encourages players to shoot when they’re open, preaches toughness and likes to push the tempo.
Players who were lost before – D.J. Augustin and Gerald Henderson come immediately to mind – have flourished under Silas while the veterans have taken to his approach.
At 67, Silas doesn’t figure to be a long-term coach but he fits what the Bobcats need now. Perhaps down the road, Silas’s son, Stephen, could follow his father into the job.
For the time being, Paul Silas isn’t going anywhere.

I've always had a high opinion of Paul Silas going back to his days with the Hornets. I agree he is a good fit for this team for now, and has certainly earned the right to an extension. Glad the management is doing the right thing. Another year or two would not be the worst thing by a long shot.

Silas has done a good job with the Bobcats. He did an excellent job when he coached the Hornets. He is an underrated coach.

Adrian Wojnarowski has an article on Yahoo Sports today saying they are "finalizing" a one year extension (is that different than discussing?). Either way, good job coach and good job Bobcats.
Ron, noticed Rick hasn't been at his post the last two days, hope all is well.

Well deserved! Silas is a great man and a great coach. I hope he sticks around for another contract extension after this one. Adam, Bonnell is on a 1 week furlough that all Observer employees are required to take.
