Silas: Maggette has to carry scoring

In his first public comments since the NBA and its players came to a tentative labor agreement, Charlotte Bobcats coach Paul Silas put the onus on new forward Corey Maggette to carry the team's offense.

The Bobcats and the rest of the NBA is expected to open training camps a week from Friday (Dec. 9). Asked how the Bobcats will make up for the absence of leading scorer Stephen Jackson, Silas said he expects 20 points a game from Maggette.

Maggette, a former Duke star, was shipped to the Bobcats as part of the three-team deal on draft night that involved the Milwaukee Bucks and Sacramento Kings.  That was the transaction that allowed the Bobcats to draft Bismack Biyombo seventh overall.

Silas said he has told Maggette he'll be the starter at small forward, and needs to be this team's senior statesman -- a leader on and off the court of what will generally be a young team.

Much more on this in Friday's Observer.

we need to be talking to atlanta about a maggette/williams swap. maggette would be the surer bet but with no real upside long term........williams still has upside of a franchise guy who hasn't been given many chances to show that playing with smith and johnson and bibby and horford all these years.

put williams on our team right now and watch what a augustin/henderson/williams/diaw/brown lineup with thomas/walker/biyombo/white off the bench.

you really don't lose much but you have sooooooo much more to gain than NOT making that deal and atlanta is begging for ANY deal for williams right now.

Get ready to be the lowest scoring team in the league. Again.

Maggette is the man! With starter minutes, he will easily score 20/game. All the Duke haters, will talk smack, oh well. We may not win many games, but Maggette will shoot 42% and average 20pts.

I think Magette could have a good year. Seems like he would respond well to what Silas is saying. Classic Silas.

Silas also said he's heard good thins about DIOP's conditioning after surgery. Too bad the doctors couldn't do something about his stone hands.
