Bobcats guard Augustin will miss 4 games

Charlotte Bobcats point guard D.J. Augustin will miss at least the next four games (over the next five nights) after getting a second diagnosis on inflammation in his right big toe.

Charlotte physician Dr. Bob Anderson examined the injury, and Augustin will go through electric stimulation and other therapies, rather than the injection initially suggested when Augustin was examined in New Jersey Sunday night.

Augustin has had the injury about two weeks, but it became far worse in the first quarter of a loss to the New Jersey Nets. He'll be out at least until the Bobcats go west to play the Lakers, Trail Blazers and Suns at the end of the month.

better to get better than get worse. no damage done here. he sits, we lose, he plays and gets hurt more, we lose more.

not to mention this was CLEARLY affecting his play. dude has played HORRIBLE the past week or 2.

good to get walker some free run to get some kinks out and hopefully there is progress for when DJ gets back.

Foot injuries are no joke and painful! He probably should have stopped playing before he did. Get well.

So, why is Derick Brown starting instead of DJ White. Coach Silas is committing lot of errors with this team as well. Put guys on the Floor that can exert efforts. White should start ahead of Tyrus Thomas or Derick Brown. White has good shot selection than Thomas or Brown.

Yeah, Rashon. How's that Walker as point guard thing working out? Two assists, four turnovers, and a team shooting percentage nearing 30. Impressive.

I love it when Coach Silas does his Danny Glover Lethal Weapon impersonation! I'm getting too old for this shit!

The Bobcats STUNK OUT LOUD last night.

I cannot remember the last time I was at an NBA game and spent the entire 2nd half hoping it would just hurry up and be over.

Hey bobcat see your a real fan, Dj has been injured since the last Knick game in NY way to stay current:)

Rashond

Kemba is not and will not be a point guard, you can't when you can only dribble with one hand and have your head down, he only passes when all of "his" options are cut off.

Posted by: TrueBBallFan | Jan 25, 2012 9:38:44 AM

Kemba will be a very good player. But as every game goes by, I'm really convincing my self that he will be at his best in a 6th man role such as Jason Terry and Jamal Crawford. A scoring combo-guard that handles the ball really well and may still get his 3-4 asisst per game, but his real duty is to score from the bench.

If he embraces that role, he can be an All-Star and "6th Man of the Year" 2-3 years from now. And that is something every team needs. With his passion, heart and willingness to take the big shot and live with the consequences, he can become one of the greatest 6th Man in the NBA.

DJ Agustin is a pretty solid PG, but I think he should be better as a backup. If a starter he should play for a team like the Mavericks, Knicks, Heat or Lakers, were he just needs to distribute the ball and get set for the open shot, but he won't carry a big load of the offense or defense. Similar to JJ Barea in Dallas.

If the Bobcats trade Augustin, they should try to get a late 1st Rd Pick or early 2nd Rd in the 2012 draft. And/Or maybe pacakge him with Thomas or Maggette. Also, if that happens, the Bobcats should seriously consider making arun at Stephen Curry, and drafting a PG with the 2nd Rd Pick this year.

Kendall Marshall from UNC may be avaliable in the 2nd Rd and he is a pure point guard with great length and decent defensive skills. With the 1st Rd Pick (most likely a Top 3), they should get a big, such as: Anthony Davis, Andre Drummonds or Perry Jones. Forget about Harrison Barnes, is a lot more difficult to find a dominant big guy, than it is to find a solid SF.

Stephen Curry and Roy Hibbert in Bobcats uniforms? Yes please.

Posted by: apauldds | Jan 25, 2012 12:58:37 PM

kendall marshall is a downgrade from augustin. this coming from a unc fan. marshall will be a solid nba player but augustin is capable of much more. we don't need to trade anybody. we COULD trade boris or maggette or thomas or white if it were the right deal. if we trade diop, we're giving something else up and or taking back a worse contract. it's not worth it. better to just let his contract die.

marshall is the defensive upgrade however.

also disagree about being able to graba guy like barnes easily. name 10 nba 3's that are better than barnes RIGHT NOW. durant, bron, melo, rudy gay? after that you're talking about gerald wallace, gallinari, caron butler, luol deng, granger, marion, igoudala, etc.

and out of that group only galo and granger are on the upswing. it's always easier to find a guy with 6'0 - 6'8 size than it is to find a guy 6'9+. but talent wise? nah.

davis looks like an elite talent. drummond not as much. barnes, perry, sullinger, lamb all look like longtime franchise cornerstone 1st or 2nd option guys. we already have hendo so I wouldn't go lamb. perry is a solid player but he's a step below the other 3. he's scoring less in more time than barnes and sullinger. less of the shooter barnes is. quincy miller is the better prospect from baylor in my mind.

this draft is so crucial for us. we have the surrounding pieces but we need the guy. barnes, sullinger, and davis have the best chance of being the guy. and i don't think we land the top pick. lotta competition at the bottom between washington, toronto, detroit, jersey, new orleans, etc.

Charlottean, although I didn't made it clear, I was not talking about replacing Augustin with Marshall. I meant that if we trade Augustin, we needed to do whatever it takes to get Stephen Curry (a clear upgrade over Augustin) AND draft Marshall as a backup. Assuming that Walker will be a 6th Man. That way the team will have to big and long PG's to pair with Walker at any point in time.

As for Drummonds, I think he is should be the 2nd option after Davis. Barnes would be my 3rd Options according to what I've seen and read from all the "experts". Drummonds is only 18 and he already has the body of Dwight Howard or Blake Griffin, plus he is as good as those two when they were in high school. I truly believe Drummonds can be the second best big man in the NBA, right next to Dwight Howard and Griffin, even better than Sullinger and Perry.

You cant really judge how any of our young players will be in the future based off this disaster. To me Kemba is one of the FEW bright spots on this team. Yea he didnt get many of his other guys involved last night. But based off what I've seen with this garbage id let him and Hendo shoot everytime down the floor. Not feed the post to an INEPT group of big men. Silas is totally dropping the ball, with this offensive style. I wouldnt want this team to slow it down and try and run a halfcourt set EVER....Well, because they CANT. Oh and no team would draft another PG with one of their two first rounders to have that guy be a 6th man. Kemba is a starter point blank. They didnt pick up DJ's option next year for a reason. Kemba isnt there yet, but when he figures it out, we'll have something special. Oh and Drafting Kendall Marshall would go right up there with Ajinca as our WORST draft pick ever...The kid cant shoot...WOW

Posted by: JP | Jan 25, 2012 3:56:36 PM

JP: You really think Ajinca was a worse pick than Adam Morrison?

Posted by: BringBackBristow | Jan 26, 2012 10:47:32 AM

JP,

Augustin doesn't have an option for next year genius. it's a QO. and james harden was the 3rd pick in the draft and he's a 6th man. augustin was the 9th pick too.

and ajinca wasn't a bad pick and neither was morrison. look at a lot of the guys on our roster like DJ White and Mullens and henderson and augustin, etc. guys that get opportunities to develop stand a much better chance to do so than guys that don't. morrison didn't get a chance to come back from his injury. he wasn't horrible as a rookie. he wasn't great, but he looked great going into his 2nd season prior to the injury. ajinca was never given a chance. the guy was 18 when we drafted him and he was a skilled 7 footer with a jumper. dominated the d-league and we just weren't patient with the guy.

guarantee he would have out performed mullens had we kept him and developed him last year and this. he was way more the rebounder and shot blocker than mullens.

we haven't made ANY bad picks. we've just done a horrible job developing ALL OF THEM. okafor playing the 4. felton playing the 2. henderson and augustin almost being given up on. morrison and ajinca COMPLETELY being given up on.

look at jonny flynn. he gets drafted to a team that didn't draft ricky rubio also......and the guy might look like a franchise pg. instead......he might be out of the league in a year or so a la morrison.

all of these guys are elite basketball talents that's why they are on the draft board to begin with. it's about what you do with them.
