Charlotte Bobcats name Gerald Henderson, Matt Carroll captains for 2012-13 season
Gerald Henderson and Matt Carroll have been named captains of the Charlotte Bobcats this season.
They’re among the longest-tenured players on the roster (technically, reserve center Gana Diop has the longest tenure). Also Henderson and Carroll were among the most committed players to the off-season workout program new coach Mike Dunlap has emphasized.
Henderson appreciated that Dunlap consulted with him about this, rather than just announce captains.
“He asked me if I wanted to be captain. He wanted me to take it on,’’ said Henderson, last season’s leading scorer at 15.1 points per game. “I don’t like just being called a captain. I wanted to earn it.’’
Carroll doesn’t play much – he could be the fourth shooting guard on the roster this season – but Henderson said he knows just why Carroll earned the distinction: “He’s the best teammate I’ve ever had. We play the same position (competing for playing time) and he’s always quick to help me or anyone else.’’

It's a high honor and I know why Dunlap considered it so carefully. You don't want just anyone to go out to center court and shake hands with the referees and the honorary ball-kids before the game.
Named captains are pretty meaningless on an NBA team. Not like the NFL where they have to call 'heads or tails'--THAT takes strategy.

who else could you possibly pick from this bunch?
now here's to hoping matt carroll pulls an andray blatche on opening night. and that they actually give gerald henderson an extension. could you imagine 5 years from now what he, mkg, and biyombo could do in the starting 5 alongside a real point guard and an absolute stud offensive 4 man (who while I doubt is mullens, could quite possibly be mullens, we'll find out this year).
he needs to be the first draft pick to stay. this franchise needs continuity. badly. when gana diop is your longest tenured player currently..........we have a major problem.

That's because every member that leaves the Bobcats wins a championship. Go look up how many won rings either the same season they left or the next. It's staggering stats.

and diaw and jackson almost did this past year too. nazr too.
who we got? kapono?
morrison, house, juwon howard, tyson chandler, can't think of anyone else. that's not that many when you think 15 players on every championship team and we're talking about a 7 year span or so.
it's more like.....we draft guys destined for success and do everything possible to ruin their careers. we got unlucky with may and morrison's injuries but we ruined felton and okafor and augustin and definitely didn't help ajinca and henderson was nearly ruined but has the slightest hope left for not being the next casualty of this horrible player personnel department.
dude needs an extension asap. you can always trade the guy later he's not tyrus thomas. but when you continually let draft picks walk away, you lose all the value you are GIVEN by drafting high. you HAVE to retain them and then trade them for other assets. It's simple valuation.
henderson is the IDEAL starting 2 for this coach. not so much on the whole anti-mid range thing but the running the floor and playing defense is hendo's bread and butter. he and MKG and jeff taylor picking up full court? with mullens and biyombo anchoring? that's a recipe that makes sense. why risk it? pay the guy. we have plenty of cap room just front load the contract so it actually helps us later when we are actually contending to avoid an OKC type situation where they regret paying perkins so much.
