Charlotte Bobcats' Gerald Henderson a week or more away from playing

It sounds like at least another week before Charlotte Bobcats captain Gerald Henderson will be well enough to start playing again.

In an exclusive interview Tuesday with the Observer, Henderson said his sprained left foot is still sore and he hasn’t been cleared yet to run or jump on the basketball court.

“I’d say around a week. I’d have to be able to run and jump first and get a couple of practices in. To get myself in decent enough shape because I’ve missed some time,’’ Henderson told the Observer, after a session of shooting and ballhandling.

Henderson suffered that injury in the second half of the Nov. 3 road loss to the Dallas Mavericks. He was relieved at the time not to need surgery. But the prognosis was he’d need two to four weeks off. Since Henderson went out, the Bobcats have gone 4-3.

Henderson can do some running in what’s called an Alter-G machine. Effectively that’s a tent of compressed air formed around his lower body, reducing the effect of gravity. Henderson said he can now safely run at about 70 percent of his body weight.

“It’s at a point where it’s still healing – there’s still a bruise in there.  Not any real swelling, just really sore,’’ Henderson described. “I want it to get to a point where it’s strong enough where I can go out there and do regular activities.’’

“Maybe in the next few days I can get out there and jog, put my full body weight on it, but for now we’re just being cautious. Make sure I heal up so that when I come back I’m 100 percent.’’

More from Henderson in Wednesday’s Observer.

We better not resign this fool for more than 6mill per season. He's always hurt and will never be a star...good player but not worth big $

get this thug playing again & then trade him for the first decent offer we get

^ Idiot

Come back 100 percent Gerald! When we compare how Jeff Taylor looked in his first start and how he looked last night, there is a world of difference. The more PT Taylor and MKG get, the better it is for the Cats.

I dont really remember too many other times he has been hurt. Speed and Bull123 should be banned from posting on here. Gerald is the complete opposite of a thug, and trading him would be a huge mistake

Who are the two idiots posting up top who don't even have facts.
Hendo is never really injured. Look at TT, or glass as I like to call him. That's injury prone.
And Hendo is really good and play SG not SF like MKG does. Taylor is MKG backup and Hendo on this team should start. Now this should be his breakout year and he will never be a star but for solid 6th man on championship team who has good morale.
Yes resign him and he shouldn't cost more than $7mm at the most I would think.

If we can find te right team, I mean sucker, trade him now. He is not NBA team leader material. He is as good now as he will ever be. He will play another 10 years, and will do nothing of note. Get it while you can, because he has no market value.

speed, bull123, and Freshhhh is one funny dude. A real natural comedian.

Confession....I will never forgive the door thug for injuring Tyler

Posted by: Bull123 | Nov 20, 2012 6:07:20 PM

You are all idiots. Yes Hendo is the total opposite of a thug. And yes he gets hurt a lot. He has yet to play all of an 82 game regular season.

embarrassed to be a bobcat fan with some of the puke you ignorant morons post on here. Thanks for the update, Rick. Hope we can get Hendo back sooner than later. An important part to this young team. He isnt a team captain by fluke or mistake...

In an exclusive interview Tuesday with the Observer, Henderson

Exclusive? What respectable reporter would waste their time coming to Charlotte or contacting Henderson he is not a star. So the fact Rick wanders the halls of TWC Arena runs into Henderson asks how the injury is constitutes an exclusive. How many people did he beat out for the story? I thought so:)

Yo, bullsissy123, you probably are some youg kid who gets beat up by your youger sister. Go ride your bike and stay off the big guy page. Go Cats!

Two gd is the position where most injuries occur be it slight or big. Wade, Bradley,Fields,JAX,Shumpert, Rip,Billups,Roy,and Rose who plays two gd a lot are all hurt and most much more than Henderson. They chase each other from side to side , not just stand around or up and back, run out on the breaks, play the toughest cover and drive hard w explosion to the rack. He's never missed a season and they need him .

Taylor has a long way to go but is good. Lets see what he does when he faces double teams and has to play all game . Resign him or lose him as the Bulls want him now.

he won't command too much in RFA, highly likely he plays out next year on the tender if we don't work something out. Mullens on the other hand is playing himself into a big offer sheet. either way we have a TON of cap room going forward. taylor, mkg, walker, biyombo are all on rookie scale for at least this year and 2 more. mkg for 3 more. we have haywood for 2 more, sessions for 1 more. we have plenty of room going forward to keep all of these core guys.

including henderson who i think is ideal fit for this team and dunlap's coaching style. once he adds a consistent corner 3 to his game, he'll really be an asset.

while youre wandering TWC how about asking mullens about the raptor game. after an interview basking in his new found post up repertoire he transforms back into a jump shooter. was this because of bargini or just a lapse on his part.
he is quick in the lane and has a nice touch. we need his inside presence on these nights when the jumpers dont fall and bismack isnt on fire.
this is becoming lots of fun.

He shot horribly, but in his defense the shots were good open looks in the flow of the offense or transition game as a trailer. Dude just isn't knocking em down, but he will.

He still had all his buckets on the block. I'm not mad at the game he played at all, i'm mad he isn't making more. Between he and biz you HAVE to feel like we have our starting 4 and 5 for the next 10 years figured out.

Biz was awesome. Not just the 8 rebounds, but 4 fouls called on toronto where they were holding biz from getting an offensive board. Dude seriously dominated the paint for his 26 min. A glimpse into his potential no doubt. That 1 dunk is making waves because of how monstrous a play that is to make 1 on 3.

I am thankful for mj for buying this team and drafting kemba. Also for surrounding himself with beter peopple like cho and his scouts. I am thankful for cho for his trades and mangement of the salary cap and givng mj good advise. I am thankful for higgins for bringing in his son eventhough he has zero talent... oh wait not.

Ben Gordon is getting on my Nerves! Just saying. Get dirty(work hard)drive!
Still think Mullens is a step or 2 out of his range.. Would like to see him get the ball a little lower or back the opponent down a few steps, as big as he is for a 4. When he faces up that far out "scouting" is going to stop that, back'em down draw the dbl kick it IMO. So I think he will have to change that! No negatives here just observations! Everybody but B. G. is kicking ass.

All of that aside I give THANKS for the hard work these guys are GIVING!

No question better Mullens tries some 3's than not but when its not going in, Move it down like he has been doing.
