Charlotte Bobcats assistant coach Bob Beyer arrested

Charlotte Bobcats assistant coach Bob Beyer was arrested in upstate New York Thursday night following an incident in a Saratoga Springs restaurant.

Beyer, 51, was charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

A Bobcats spokesman said Beyer is still employed by the team and issued the following statement: “We are aware of the incident. It is a legal matter and we will have no further comment until the legal process has run its course.’’

Police told the Saratogian newspaper that Beyer and two acquaintances had an altercation with bouncers at a Saratoga Springs restaurant at around 11:15 p.m. One of those acquaintances, Edward Parenteau, allegedly assaulted one of the bouncers, resulting in an arrest. Beyer and Ryan Chartrand were both charged with interfering with that arrest.

New Bobcats head coach Steve Clifford worked for Beyer when Beyer coached Siena from 1994 through 1997. Clifford hired Beyer last month, along with four other assists, to fill out his staff.

Previous to Clifford hiring him, Beyer was an assistant with the Toronto Raptors, Orlando Magic and Golden State Warriors.

What kind of "restaurant" has "bouncers"?!?

His Minimumness sure attracts a lot of flies. Paternity suit, son tweeting pics of johnson (think he named it Bob?), asst coach arrested in "restaurant" that has "bouncers", MTV VJ rolling dice with Air Min for her virginity...WOW!

I wasn't there and don't know what happened to cause such, but I will say this. Do a "ride along" with your local police force at least once. It is shocking. Go on calls and see first hand what our thin blue line deals with daily. By the time someone decides to call 911 and the cops come, generally it is already a situation totally out of hand...hence the call.

We all have our faults and shortcomings, but when someone calls the police it is an acknowledgement that they need help. Most of the time, by the time cops arrive it is already a crappy situation any way you cut it.

Here's my advice, don't be a particpant in it at all to begin with. And also, don't be mad you got arrested after the fact. Seriously, do a ride along . It will open your eyes and you will probably also be a better citizen and voter because of it.

More fight in him than 9 out of 10 years of basketball I have suffered through!

old dude's getting into bar fights and public incidents? classy.

Finally a fighter on this team! Bad boys bad boys.......

Not sure how,you put this on Jordan though. I have seen quite a few issues with assistant coaches getting in trouble. DUI's, etc. Didn't 2 execs from the Broncos just get nailed? Never heard an owners named mentioned. Big time double standard with Jordan.

Given his sordid track record Air Min can only grin & bear it and keep paying the guy -- anything else would be hypocritical.

What's the guy supposed to do ? Run ? Lol. It's a non story . This wouldn't be reported in any other stop . As long as he teaches Kemba how to pass first and how to pass at the rim and hit the roller , he can get into fights every night .

Dude's human. And ask yourself, all of you MJ haters, isn't it time to let go? I mean the man hasn't played in years, I know someone else has destroyed your team by now!

Air Min has destroyed our team, nobody else.

like they didn't announce the rebuild before the 28-120?

Posted by: charlottean | Aug 19, 2013 6:47:49 PM

MJ's track record? Must have missed all the times he was arrested.

MJ haterade. Jealous jealous people who read TMZ. Dude has never been arrested for anything. Get a life,

Asst coach getting arrested in a bar? Not very high on the sports scandal meter. I guess that speaks well of sports in Charlotte. Not alot of controversy around here.

Ty Lawson just got arrested. Must be the owners fault in Denver.

Posted by: JJ | Aug 20, 2013 5:35:54 PM

How about Von Millers suspension. I blame Pat Bolen!

Posted by: Taylor | Aug 20, 2013 9:04:05 PM

All you slurpers seem to forget Air Minimum has had full control of the BOOB's for 7 years now. LOL.

Everyone forgotten James Bouler?

What's the over/under on minutes per game Biz gets this year? 10?

At 5th on the depth chart in the PF/C rotation just not looking too good for him.

Richie Icognito got into a scuffle in Miami. Where was Stepehen Ross? How could he let that happen?

Posted by: Taylor | Aug 21, 2013 8:11:12 PM

Aaron Hernandez. All Bob Krafts fault. Turn in those Super Bowl Trophys please. Thank you.

Posted by: Mikey | Aug 22, 2013 12:05:46 AM

i mean i get that you speak in hyperbole and do it intentionally to annoy the "fans" but......you think brendan haywood is going to play over biz?

it's like....nobody REALLY likes MJ. just like nobody REALLY likes dan gilbert or jim buss or whoever. people like basketball. they just own the teams.

supposedly seth curry signing with the warriors non guaranteed.

absolutely insane if you ask me. if he doesn't work out in the league, fine.....but the upside vs. the rookie minimum bet? you don't even have to guarantee the entire contract until january. what theeeeeeeeeeee eff are they doing?

that's just blatantly dumb. there is no scenario where signing seth curry hurts you, yet there are a million scenarios where signing him helps you.

if this is true.....this sucks.

Posted by: charlottean | Aug 23, 2013 3:05:54 PM

Yep, that surprised me too.

I could understand this if Seth preferred to play with his brother.
But, the report is that his choice was between Golden State and Barcelona.
So, no interest from the Bobcats ?

That's probably because they re-signed Jannero Pargo. They are pretty similar players, whose main strength is the 3 point shooting.
Pargo's advantage over Seth is experience.

Had this been my choice, I would've gone with youth and upside (the chance of getting a player who may develop into a better PG and a better NBA shooter than Pargo) over experience. This was a quite questionable choice they made.

I'm surprised, but not shocked. Still, we're talking about the fifth guard position on the roster.
I don't think this will make any big difference in the long term for the team.
In the long run, I think Jeffery Taylor will be better at SG than at SF at NBA level. The SF position will then need to be enhanced, beginning with the next off-season (or maybe, even by the trade dead line). As for PG, that never was Seth's strength; it's something he'll have to work on, a lot.

half a million for an elite shooter at the end of the bench is a no brainer no matter how you cut it.

pargo is clearly the better pg. I would have gone with both. I look at curry as being the replacement to ben gordon as the combo guard lightning in a bottle off the bench. give you 10-15 minutes a night of offense.

if taylor, mkg, and henderson progress to the point where all 3 need to be on the floor max minutes....then there's limited room for curry or anybody, but he'd still make an ideal end of the bench guy. still more ideal long term for the 3rd point guard.

the only reason i see them feeling a NEED for pargo is because sessions is probably getting shopped heavy this year. lot of contenders could use him down the stretch.

we have 14 guys under contract counting adrien, but adrien isn't guaranteed. and curry's wouldn't have been either.

they can carry cory higgins but they can't carry seth curry?
