Carstens' football future uncertain

Just finished an interesting interview with Jordan Carstens. The full story will appear in tomorrow's paper and on charlotte.com. But the condensed version is this: The defensive tackle won't know until right before training camp if he'll be able to return to playing football.

Carstens will have a series of tests in late July to determine if he'll be cleared to play. Carstens missed much of last season after a blood clot was discovered in his lung. Doctors said the blood clot was a side effect of a medicine Carstens was taking for a kidney disease.

Carstens has been working out with the team's strength and conditioning staff all off-season while doctors continue to experiment with different medications in an attempt to clear the kidney disease.

NFL Europe update: My boy Jason Hall, whom I have been and will continue to brag on, has continued to tear it up. From Mike Carlson's 6/7 Europass on NFL.com:
"Cologne's bright spot against Hamburg was defensive end Jason Hall. Hall had three sacks against Hamburg, giving him 10 on the season, four short of the league record set by London Monarchs linebacker Danny Lockett in both 1991 and 1992. Coming out of Tennessee, Hall, barely 6-foot-2 and 250 pounds, was looked at as a potential conversion to linebacker himself. But now, at 265 pounds, his pass-rush quickness could convince teams that he could be used like a Dwight Freeney or Elvis Dumervil, and he's earning himself a long look by the Carolina Panthers."
Also, Justin McCullum is scuffling as a backup wideout and Kevin Garrett is on IR after a fairly solid first half of the season.

Thanks, Michael. Keep the updates on Mr. Hall coming. You might have something there. Not too big a section on NFL Europa in the Greenville News I'm afraid. It would be nice to be stocked at DE with Ruck's injury and Pep's contract year approaching. I'd hate to trade him, but if we can't sign him maybe he can be our Hershel Walker, if we can find a "Minnesota" out there, I'd be glad to take the Dallas role and get a handful of picks. Better than nothing. By the way, that's the only thing I'd like to emulate from the Cowboys. I'm an ABC man from way back. Well, we did trade back this year. I thought that was cool!
