It's hot in The 'Burg'

SPARTANBURG – Ah, Spartanburg in late July.

First observation as I pulled into The ‘Burg: It’s still here.

Anyway, to get into a Spartanburg frame of mind, I played a little game driving down. Decided to see which number was higher – the increase on my car thermometer or the number of Waffle House’s spotted from start to finish.

Left Charlotte with the temperature at 90 degrees. Got to Spartanburg and it was 98.

Coincidence or not, I counted eight Waffle House’s en route.

It would seem to be a tie, so let’s go to the tie-breaker. The restaurants get the nod because there were also three Mr. Waffle’s on the way.

Stay tuned to charlotte.com this evening for updates on possible draft-pick signings.

Aw, come on Pat. Stop "waffling". Man, you've got to find some "grit" within yourself or you'll end up flatter than a "pancake". Stop this self pity and "break fast" from it. Get into the "eggs-itment" that is Panther football.

Later dude. Catch you on the "flap, Jack".

Awwww please, stop moaning. It's training camp, and that goes for us fans too.

Not to be argumentative Pat but it's known as "Sparkle City" instead of the 'Burg. Everyone there will know you're an outsider if you call it the burg.

Well, PH, you may or may not have heard of this thing called the, umm...SALARY CAP. It sometimes makes it difficult to sign players with high salaries when many other players who carry similarly high salaries are already under contract to a team.

i call it the 'burg all the time and have lived here all my life. Sparkle City works also. And the high yesterday in spartanburg was 91. It was 92 in charlotte.

There is a very interesting article about training camp at www.charlottesportsblog.com
I also saw a good article there about Jake Delhomme, although the writer is a bit of a Jake-lover.

to the simeon rice proponent...while it seems like a good idea, the guy was cut because he failed a physical due to the shoulder injury he suffered last year. we already have enough aging guys, we don't need another. plus, he would cost too much when we need a solid veteran safety either to start or back-up someone. anyways, he'll probably reunite with marinelli in detroit.
