Training camp predictions
Five training camp predictions on the eve of the first practice:
1. Ryne Robinson will be the first rookie to jump out. With linebacker Jon Beason likely to hold out and receiver Dwayne Jarrett and center Ryan Kalil likely to begin practice as backups (coach John Fox almost always defers to veterans), Robinson will be the first rookie to get a significant chance to show his skills. He’s starting off with the team expecting him to handle punt and kickoff returns.
2. You won’t see much of defensive end Mike Rucker, safety Mike Minter and middle linebacker Dan Morgan. In Minter’s case, it’s age. In Morgan’s, it’s health concerns. In Rucker’s, it’s a bit of both. They’ll practice on a limited basis because Fox knows it’s more important to have them healthy for the regular season than wearing down in training camp.
3. DeShaun Foster will open training camp as the starting running back. DeAngelo Williams will end camp as the starting running back. Remember, Fox will give the nod to the veteran at the start. But it became obvious at the end of last season that Williams was the better runner. This will play out as camp goes on.
4. It will take some time to play out, but Kalil will be the starting center and Justin Hartwig will start at right guard. The team will try a bunch of different combinations on the offensive line. But the goal is to get the best five linemen on the field. Hartwig and Kalil fit that description along with tackles Jordan Gross and Travelle Wharton and left guard Mike Wahle.
5. If he’s not the starting tight end tomorrow morning, Jeff King will fill that role before long. He’s not the pass catcher Wesley Walls was and he’s not the blocker that Kris Mangum was. But he’s got decent skills in both areas and seems to be a natural fit in coordinator Jeff Davidson’s offense.

THANK GOD we're finally here. I'm so sick of baseball, nascar and I can only watch so may repeats on the NFL network. Go Panthers!!!!

Yay football! The only thing good about baseball is the managers yelling at the umpires and when the benches clear for a fight.
Why don't they ever show Panthers replays on NFL Network? GRRRR!
Are they going to show Panthers training camp footage at all on NFL network?

Since you stupid @ss Panther fans come and stink up our basketball articles/blogs, I'll reciprocate.
Uh, why is there only one article about that thug Panther player that put a gun to someone's head? Is that because you Observer folks cater to the rednecks around here that are brainwashed into thinking the Panthers are something more than the continually-disappointing, drugged-up thugs that they are?
And it's really nice to hear Fox doesn't condone putting a gun to someone's head. Really, Fox? Really? I'm glad to hear that. I'm glad you clarified that for everyone.
Of course, when someone threatens to kill someone else and they only get a two game suspension for it, maybe you do have to come out with a public statement stating the obvious, since Lord knows the punishment for that thug didn't exactly show that the team is hard on would-be murderers. By the way, did the Panthers cut Rae Carruth before or after he was found in his trunk?

Will why dont you act like more of a man and let the rest of us know what team you "represent"? And by the way it is really pathetic if the best thing you can come up with is Rae Carruth, that is ancient history you moron.

Hey Mamoo, I get it, you're slamming the Panthers. Oh Ok , it took me a minute to get your 3rd grade, Jim Rome want-a-be reponse. Here's some news for you....no one cares what you think.
Posted by: Tampa Cat | Jul 28, 2007 12:03:14 PM
The best thing I can come up with is Rae Carruth? No, that's the worst thing. Typical idiot Panther fan.
How about your star received hospitalizing a fellow player?
How about your star defensive player getting suspended for 1/4 the season for taking an illegal substance?
How about having half your team hyped up on steroids and still not being able to win the Superbowl?
Thugs, drugs, a lot of losing seasons, and a bunch of rednecks where hope springs eternal -- the Panthers and their fans.

Hey will why if you hate the panthers so much why are you looking and commenting on articles on the website site that covers them. Everyone else here loves the team and will stick with them regardless of what happens off the field. And if you really watched the panthers you would know that Coach Fox only keeps players with good character on the team thats why Keyshawn go the boot. Now, I'd appreciate you get off our site and let us redneck panther fans enjoy our team without some hater who's fav team probably gets stomped by the cats every year.

Thanks for asking nicely, but no.
And the only reason I ended up on this part of the site was because I accidentally clicked the Panthers page instead of the Bobcats.
And what do I see? Another criminal Panther. We got you rednecks complaining about the Bobcats' owners, players, and they aren't half the drugged-up thugs that the Panthers have assembled.
If a Bobcat player held a gun to someone's head, it would be on the front page, there would be a blog about it, Fowler would be replying to all the questions about why the NBA is so thuggish, etc etc.
But it happens to a Panther player (surprising, since most of them are thugs to begin with), and you barely hear a word about it. A couple paragraphs in a "notes" article? That's it, huh, Observer?
Oh well, deal with it rednecks. When you stop criticizing the Bobcats for stuff they haven't done, I'll stop criticizing your continually-disappointing NFL team full of thugs and druggies for what they have done.

This is for the Dumb @ss Mamoo and idiot Tampa Cat. First of all, if you dont like the Panters, stay the hell off the Panther Football site. I dont want to read your crap rehtoric comments nor does any other Panther fan. Heres my opinion on the Charlotte area redneck bashing comments; if you have a problem with the rednecks around Charlotte, and it sounds like you do, then I surely hope your Yankee @ss is not living in the Charlotte area. The only other thing I have to say to you is your a FOOL; GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: justin Brady | Jul 28, 2007 3:01:57 PM
Let me change who I addressed my comment to; Mamoo and Tampa Cat was the wrong names; I read the name listings wrong. My comment was ment to go to the idiot redneck hating Will. Once again I say you suck a big one.
Posted by: Justin Bra | Jul 28, 2007 3:12:32 PM
Will apparently you are the gutless turd your comments lead everyone to believe that you are since you wont even say what team YOU are a fan of yet you come here and post the lamest crap not an inch of which is remotely close to the truth because you claim Panthers fans post on your team's site.
You are a fool, go back under whatever rock you crawled out from under you pathetic moron.

Have followed Jeff King for years and since his Virginia Tech days in college. He is Fox's kind of guy, hard-working and dedicated... not the most talented, but a good Brad Hoover kind of player. No one can ever be as big a tight end red zone threat as Wesley Walls back in the day, but this guy has a nose for the ball and will have to be respected by other teams defenses. Henning never utilized a tight-end in his offense. One like King will help our new coordinator free up Steve Smith and Dwayne Jarrett. Watch and enjoy this season as Jeff King does some solid blocking while he also racks up a few touchdowns!

what are you waiting for beason, your gonna get cut. if u dont learn the plays then your going to be the 'special' student on the feild, falling behind. Greed is one of the deadly sins, so take what you get and prove to the panthers your worth. Prediction: PANTHERS ALL THE WAY
Posted by: king-ding-a-ling | Jul 28, 2007 9:55:13 PM
Umm...no, he's not going to get cut. Nice try, though. He'll eventually get a big deal (though not perhaps as big as he wants), and as such, he'll be every opportunity to earn that money, which he'll get the chance to do at the time of Morgan's inevitable injury.

I hope its evitable.

It's amazing, the season is almost here, and we are coming too the end of our deployment here in Iraq. The soldiers here are excited for their teams but no one is more excited than the Panther Fans, born and raise in the Carolinas. Baseball has has over stayed it's welcome on ESPN here in Iraq. We hardly see the NFL net work, and the only news we get is nothing. I daily stay in touch with our Panthers online. I'll be seeing the greatest team in the NFL soon. Go Peppers, Smith, Rucker, Morgan and the list goes on. Carolina Nation for Life
