Is Taye Biddle a keeper?

We saw Carolina Panthers wide receiver Taye Biddle making plays all over the place in training camp, and he’s continuing to do so in games. Against the Giants, he had two touchdown catches for a whopping 108 total yards. Against the Eagles, he had two more grabs for 43 yards.

In each game, he was Carolina’s leading receiver by total yardage.

So does that mean Biddle has a shot at making the team, or is he this year’s Walter Young?

"He’s got a chance, he’s making some plays; he’s made some plays in both of these games," said wide receivers coach Richard Williamson. "That’s what you’ve got to do in this business; if you don’t make plays, you’re not going to have a chance.

"He’s made some plays, he’s got some speed, he’s got some talent and ability. So he’s got a chance."

Expect the Panthers to keep five or six wideouts, and five are already pretty much locks. Steve Smith is one of the league’s best, and Drew Carter and Keary Colbert are getting the other first-team snaps. Dwayne Jarrett is the promising rookie, and fellow rookie Ryne Robinson will make the team as a kick returner.

That uses up five spots. Biddle is in a battle to make it six with Chris Horn and several others, but if Biddle keeps finding the end zone in practice and in games, I like his chances. -- Stan Olson

if anyone has rightfully played their way onto the roster this year thus far, it's Taye Biddle. hell, id say give Biddle the spot Keary Colbert would take up and make Colbert fight it out with the rest of those guys. at least Taye is willing to not just catch the ball, but also take a hit if need be.

Why do they continue to keep Colbert. He has a decent rookie year, but has regressed since then. I hate to see anyone lose their job, but if you are getting paid then you must produce SOMETHING. Biddle has shown some talent, and has been one of the best offensive producers of the pre-season games and practice. He has earned his chance.

Looking in from the outside, it is a not even close, cut Colbert and keep Biddle. We all know that Colbert and Shelton have pictures of John Fox at a dogfight, but it is time to face the situation, cut Shelton and Colbert.

Why not trade Kolbert and Shelton to the giants for Will Demps, instead of cutting them. Lets at least get something for them. The giants could use both of them.We may can throw on our D reserve D linemen in and get a draft pick out of it.

Keep Biddle and Horn, and either trade or cut Colbert. Will they? Hell no, Foxie's loyalty comes into play. He won't nut up and do the right thing.

Trade Colbert? For what? there are and will be better Wrs on waivers then Colbert. He is worthless as trade bait.

Posted by: Dave | Aug 22, 2007 7:22:24 PM

Colbert is worthless, cut him, he has no trade value, neither does Shelton. Taye can actually make some plays for this team, I think he should be a starter. I know its the pre-season, but he has been sooooo much better than Keary Colbert and Drew Carter. Carter might as well learn to tackle and play corner, because he has no catching ability. He cant catch the ball. period.

why do people always insist trades should be made? it is really hard to make player-for-player trades in the NFL because of the way contracts are structured. it's not like the NBA and MLB. why do you think most of the time when trades are made in the NFL it involves a player for draft picks. this isn't Madden people. don't you think teams would do more of it if it proved to be worthwile and add value? you may see one or two trades A YEAR that involves a player swap. it's more beneficial for them financially to cut a player and sign someone than trade for another player.

Yea and lets trade Tim Shaw and Moorehead for Ed Reed while we are at it too, and throw in a 6th rd pick this year and a 5th next year, wooooops thats 4 things only aloud 3 slots to trade in Madden 08. ;)

Yeah, Keep Taye! He's the next ME!

Now, Now... white devils! Do not mock Michael Vick with your dogfighter references! We (including you rednecks) need to support Mike Vick in this time of need.

I agree...it is hard to Trade players in the NFL. (player for player swap) Panthers would get nothing more than a 7th Round draft pick for colbert (if that!) and the team would have to be desperate for WR. But Yes...No one can make a Legit Argument Of why Colbert should be on this team rather than Tay Biddle. Same thing with Eric Shelton and RB Haynes..it's about the money! panthers take a cap hit for cutting those guys..while it's small...Fox won't do it....we all know...his weekness is LOYALTY! to a Fault! so we may as well stop wishing! in 2 pre season games Biddle has made about the same number of Catches as Colbert did last season! which was 5! (bum!)

Posted by: Cheven | Aug 22, 2007 9:08:15 PM

Further more...Hey I can throw in....Kevin Young blood...at least...he's a target in the Redzone...which is a legit reason to keep him. Colbert isn't fast...he isn't quick and can't beat anyone deep...(he also drops balls every now and then) see last year. So can Anyone explain to me...why he will be on this roster? I'll tell you why the same reason Thomas Davis is starting! even though as a FIRST round draft pick! (bust!) he averaged 4 tackles a game! last year.0 Int's! 1 sack, And in 4 Quaters of pre season play he has 1 tackle! 0 int's 0 passes defensed, 0 sacks, 0 tackles for lost, 0 forced fumbles! so why isn't JAmes anderson or Seward starting over him..because Fox and hurney are trying to get back what they invested in the money! (idiots) Panthers inability to draft...is this teams main problem!

CUT MR. USELESS COLBERT WE HAVE A DUMB & FOOLISH COACHING STAFF TO THINK THAT THEY ARE IMPROVING THE TEAM BY CUTTING BIDDLE HE OUT PLAYS COLBERT ALL THE WAY

THERE IS JUST NO WAY AT ALL COLBERT SHOULD BE ON THE PANTHER ROSTER

If doing good and making plays in preseason honestly helps a player in having a chance to make the team, than Biddle should already have made the team. If the coaches like players who can make plays, than they should give Biddle a spot. Colbert had many chances, but he just don't want it bad enough to get better from year to year. Carter has also had his chances and still won't reach a little harder to take the 2nd WR spot. Both Carter and Colbert have a hard time getting open, and when they finally do, they end up dropping half the passes thrown to them, neither one of them will ever be a legit #2 WR in the NFL. Biddle deserves to be kept over both Carter and Colbert. The Panthers need to face the music and accept the fact that they blown two 2nd round picks in Colbert and Shelton.

hahaha Roger K that would explain why we've kept those 2 around this long!!!

Posted by: yo | Aug 22, 2007 11:54:00 PM

I dont really get the taye biddle bandwagon. Can you guys tell me what he really did in the preseason? 2 catches in first game where the cb feel down and he was so wide open any receiver in the nfl, hell even hs receivers can make that play. the 2nd catch was a ball that shouldn't have been thrown and poor coverage by the db. barely got the ball to him and once he caught the ball, it was all green in front of him. He didn't do anything special those 2 plays.

thats one of the bad things about the NFL its a business and when it boils down to it for the panthers there just isnt enough room for Biddle, even though he deserves to make it. Obviously Smitty and Jarrett are gonna be on there, Colbert and Carter too even though both dont deserve to be on a Pee Wee team sometimes. Then Ryne Robinson we cant cut him bc the kick/punt return ability. Right there is 5 recievers and i can think of maybe 10 times last season when the panthers used a 5 reciever set(cause WR are not that important in our offense atleast that many at a time), then you say Basanez has a good shot at making it so thats one less spot. and finally with all the injuries the panthers have had why would they worry about keeping another WR when the o-line and defense can stay healthy.

Posted by: Chris | Aug 23, 2007 1:06:49 AM

And either Brad Hoover or Chris Weinke were WRs in the 5WR set at least 40% of the time.

Posted by: Michael Procton | Aug 23, 2007 1:39:21 AM

I'd like to see an offensive set that would feature Smitty, Robinson, Biddle, and Jarret and definately NO KEARY COLBERT: the greatest preseason player to ever live

I disagree with most of you about Carter. No, he hasnt played up to potential yet, but hes had some flashes. Dont put him in the same breath as Colbert and his doo doo play. Anyhow, I think Carter may have a breakout season in him coming up.

Posted by: Brandon | Aug 23, 2007 7:24:42 AM

I not only play like doo doo, but I smell like it too.

Posted by: Keary Colbert | Aug 23, 2007 8:39:46 AM

I don't think Taye Biddle is a keeper. I think he should be given a chance with the starting team this week to see if he shouldn't be a starter.
