Interesting stats on Smith, Colbert, Jake

Just got some interesting numbers from STATS. Lets start with sacks allowed by offensive linemen because that possibly could lead to a lineup change Sunday.

The Panthers have allowed three sacks. STATS charges rookie right guard Ryan Kalil, who might be replaced by Jeremy Bridges with surrendering all three.

THE GOOD. No big surprise here. Steve Smith leads all receivers in yards after the catch. Here’s the list:

NFL Leaders: Yards After Catch (Receivers)

Rank Player Yards

1. Steve Smith Car - 156

7. Wes Welker NE - 94

8. Javon Walker Den - 91

9t. LaMont Jordan Oak - 90

THE BAD. No big surprise here, either. Keary Colbert is near the top in passes dropped. Here’s that list:

NFL Leaders: Passes Dropped

Rank Player Drops

2t. Keary Colbert Car - 3

2t. Frank Gore SF - 3

Who needs Keyshawn Johnson when you have Keary Colbert?

I'm so thrilled to have this winning organization in town.

They make such great decisions.

PS - I'm gonna play the role of a brainwashed redneck, and pretend I'm interested in this loser organization...

What is the purpose of this blog? Are those stats really that interesting? Steve Smith is the only Panther that doesn't suck, and Keary Colbert sucks a lot, and drops a lot of passes.

Is that surprising? Is that interesting? Does the Observer really pay you to post obvious crap like this?

Agreed, Will. You use stats to build a case. I really don't know the point of this blog. Pat, do you get paid by the word? Also, Keary Colbert has one more drop than Issac Bruce. Not that impressive a stat.

i dont get this guy will. he keeps complaining about this site but keeps coming back making posts. it sounds like hes the dumb redneck..........anyway fumbles and dropped passes are something that can be worked on week to week i know this from the years i played ball i high school sometimes you have to be reminded on how to carry the ball foster for instance carried the ball without a fumble for a long time he just needs to fine tune his carrying. i believe carter and colbert have been working on catching the ball all week if they can zero in the offense will dominate. i think we will whoop the falcons sunday.

Because everyone loves a good train wreck.

I'm pretty sure I get faaaaaaaar more enjoyment out of the Panthers constantly sucking than a "real Panther fan" would if they went on another Superbowl run (this time, minus the steroids).

Posted by: Will | Sep 19, 2007 9:28:22 PM

with that being said i guess will's comments are about as transparent as the patriots super bowl trophys.oh yeah everybody that has every played in the nfl has taken steroids, any idiot knows that.

Wow.

You are like king of the brainwashed rednecks.

Tell me more!

Do they all put guns to people's heads?
Do they all kill their baby momma?
Do they all sucker punch their teammate in a team meeting and hospitalize them?

Do they, do they?

This is ridiculous! Can this site drop Will like all other drops this season!!LOL! Don't take it personal Will unless your a tight end or receiver! LOL!!It's just that football makes us mad crazy! Hut! Hut! Whoo hoo! If not those postions Will, I bet you love to be the center! LOL! Your the one talking about sucking!!! humm!I guess your already waiting on the Bobcats season to start. The bus is half price if your a senior citizen or disable. I figure your the later? Will!!! Hockey is right around the corner.Don't take it personal Will! Football madness! A response? I am still mad from the debacle. Take 'em easy Will!

Will, it is not the panthers, the panthers' fans nor this websites fault that your daddy didn't love you.

Posted by: JT | Sep 20, 2007 5:22:44 AM

I think Will's Uncle must have "loved" him too or something, jeez!

Posted by: CHillyDoggy | Sep 20, 2007 5:34:23 AM

will is so frustrated by lack of friends and never having seen a naked girl that he stays up all night in his parents basement in front of a computer looking for different things to hate. let me guess, if i go to a pizza website you have posts on there talking about how much you hate pizza. seriously, get a life. if you really want to watch a football team struggle, take a short drive to Durham and watch Duke play every Saturday. tickets are cheap and you can probably get a whole section to yourself!

Posted by: tomP | Sep 20, 2007 5:36:15 AM

and yes, i'm sure you probably don't live in your parents basement, but that doesn't take away from the fact that your presence on this website is pointless and meant only to piss off other people.

Posted by: tomP | Sep 20, 2007 5:38:47 AM

and PANFAN, lay off the speed.

Posted by: tomP | Sep 20, 2007 5:39:43 AM

You silly rednecks, only a redneck would think calling someone a "yankee" would be offensive.

And, no, I'm not a "yankee." I've lived in the South all my life. That's why I know so much about you rednecks :)

And you should thank me for taking your simple rednecks minds off yet another one of the Panthers disappointing seasons. Don't worry, even though you'll be 6-10, that might be good enough to win that crap division you're in!

Posted by: Will | Sep 20, 2007 7:43:20 AM

So basically Pat your saying that Keary is in the presence of some very good company? Issace Bruce, TJ Houshmandzadeh, Reggie Bush, Santana Moss. In fact all of those guys on that drop list are probably starting on someones fantasy team, including yours Mr. Yasinskas. Someone needs to get on here and tell me how many passes T.O. dropped last year and then call him a bum. And that they wouldnt want him on the panthers because of his football ability. The truth of the matter is receivers/offensive players (RB & TE's) drop balls, even the best of them do. Just like NBA players miss shots, it happens. If anyone actually played football at a level higher then their backyard league they would understand that. But in the age of Madden video games, where you can just toss the ball up in triple coverage and the receiver catches it and Fantasy leagues, everyone thinks they can play or coach. Now i pose this question, in the category concerning the break down of Jake, i noticed that the leading stat of his was POORLY THROWN BALLS, its funny to me how once again that seems to slide under the radar with the fans. How many of his passes were caught while the ball was still poorly thrown. My guess is more than the ones that were dropped.

Posted by: The Critic | Sep 20, 2007 8:34:38 AM

The stat is only relevant as a percentage of drops versus balls thrown to, I am willing to bet the other guys have a smaller percentage as a result of being a featured player in their respective offenses. Nor so with Colbert, who has as many as or more drops than catches.

Posted by: Beaster | Sep 20, 2007 8:41:34 AM

Yeah, these stats aren't very enlightening. We're only 1/8th of the way through the season. Things will change a great deal.

Will,

What team do you pull for? Please enlighten us!

Posted by: lockdown | Sep 20, 2007 10:36:48 AM

I like WNBA.....
Yay go STING........

Posted by: Will | Sep 20, 2007 3:28:42 PM

When are we getting "real" running backs DeShawn Foster & Deangelo Williams are both duds. Steve Smith can't win every game for us.

Posted by: Bill | Sep 21, 2007 10:26:21 PM

In the "BREAKING DOWN JAKE" section, the STATS system listed 6 attempts failed as "other"... Any insight as to what items fall in that category? Any examples?

Posted by: Jason | Sep 22, 2007 2:12:31 PM

I enjoyed the stats. I too am curious about the "other" missed passes. It's also interesting to me who and what determines a "poor throw".

Too many dropped passes for my taste.
