Safety shopping starts tonight
The Carolina Panthers will announce their 53-man roster right around today (the list will be in the breaking news section of charlotte.com as soon as it’s released). But the real fun will start after 6, when the Panthers get a look at the cuts from around the league.
The roster they hand in today almost certainly will change in the next day or two because the Panthers still have to address a position they didn’t do nearly enough with in the off-season. That’s safety.
With Chris Harris and Deke Cooper as the starters and Nate Salley as the top backup, the best safety on the roster on opening day might still be on someone else’s roster right now. The Panthers don’t even have a legitimate fourth safety right now, although it looks like Cam Newton or C.J. Wilson will make the initial roster.
As much as the Panthers have tried to downplay the safety issue, the fact is they’re very worried and that’s why they’ll be watching the waiver wire. They’re not going to get a star at this time of year. But they need at least one more legitimate NFL safety on the roster.

we should had signed dude from jacksonville ,i know he would had rather sign with us instead of that CFL team they have in oak-town,like i've i said all along, minter's sorry ass should had informed the team before the draft about his bad knees.oh by the way,he's like 32 and i've never heard his ass complain before about how bad his legs hurt.have fun in church spreading fairytales to all the dummies who believe in such crazy things.meanwhile,cj wilson will show u how to play football, with the devil in his soul!!!!

I agree about Minter and his suddenly crippled degenerative knees, but to suggest that "dude from jacksonville" was the answer is just wrong. I'll assume you're talking about Donovan Darius, who isn't even starting for "that CFL team." For all the complaining people are doing about Chris Harris' speed and coverage skills, Darius would have been 10 times worse! As for Will Demps, why would we think a guy with a dislocated elbow who has never so much as seen our playbook could come in and be an impact player either? If he's worth getting, Tim Lewis will know it. He worked with him last year.

I hope you are right and they address the safety issue. They did not address the problem in the draft and I am not sure they will address it now. Sometimes I believe the coaching staff is seeing things differently than we see them.

Marquand Manuel is available from GB which is shopping him around for a 3rd or 4th rd pick but he might be worth it. We definately need some experienced depth there.

How about the safety from San Diego, Keil? I'm fully aware of his legal issues, but we've got a fella on the roster who essentially threatened a stripper with a handgun, but we can't sign a guy charged with shipping some cough syrup?? Truth be told, I'd be shocked if we even considered him, but he could be an asset if they did decide to take that chance. Is there any chance in bringing back Shaun Williams, he was less than impressive last year, but maybe Tim Lewis will be able to help, I don see that happening though.

Minter's so-called fairy tells you say are the truth!! If you don't believe in Jesus Christ then I will just pray for you.
Have a blessed day!

matt, let's not try and pretend Keil was doing anything even close to legitimate in illegally shipping STOLEN prescription drugs. I do not want to condone Bridges' (ALLEGED) actions, but anyone can lose their cool in a moment. Trying to profit over illegal drug use (while already making at least six figures annually to play a game) is not a spur-of-the-moment offense.

First off, let's forget about Will Demps. I like the idea of Kiel coming in and playing center field for our defense. The Panthers won't go for it and I can understand why, but sometimes people need a second chance and a little bit of guidance. No one is really talking about him, but Lamont Thompson was the starting FS in Tennessee and he was released because they said they wanted to get younger. He is only 29!! He would be our best safety, we gotta make it happen.

Lamont Thompson was waived by Tennessee. Not an all-star, but has started 45 of the last 48 games at Free Safety for the Titans. Averaged over 70 tackles and has 8 INT's the last 3 years. He's similar in age, with much better stats and more experience than Marlon McCree had when he came here, and we know how that turned out.
