Goings hopes to return for Oct. 28 game
Running back Nick Goings made his first appearance in the locker room in a couple of weeks today and said he’s recovering well from a concussion.
Goings said he experienced headaches and nausea for about 10 days and said this was the third concussion of his career. He said he’s been treated by team doctors and hasn’t gone to any concussion specialists.
He’s hoping to be able to return in time for the Oct. 28 game against Indianapolis. – Pat Yasinskas

umm....no thanks

Unlike Clay, I'll absolutely take a guy who's done anything and everything this team has asked of him in his tenure. Without Goings, there's no NFC Championship appearance in 2005, and there's probably not even a playoff run at all.

I know what you mean Michael, but you would think that this team has 64 players on its payroll that would do "anything and everything this team has asked of (them)."

I would like him back just not returning punts or kick offs

I guess Clay wasn't a Panthers fan during the 04 season when Goings almost had 1000 yards rushing in the last 3/4 of the season.

He is a very good special teams player(Covering units). But he should not be used in kickoff returns at all......Please foxy...don't have Goings return kickoffs.

Yeah, Nick has been great for us (especially in 2004) and certainly deserves a chance to come back. But the NFL is getting stricter (and safer) about concussions. I agree with other posters about how Nick really isnt an asset running kickoffs back, which is completely different from DeAngelo Williams (as evidenced by his Panther record setting 75yd run last game) If Nick is healthy enough, id want him for kick coverage and some spot duty as fullback (to give Hoover a breather) Nick Goings is the consumate utility man. He can be useful in many ways but critical is none. Get Well Nick and come back when you are healthy.

Nick goings needs to tackle on special teams and be a 3rd string back, no returns!!1

Here is a guy who has only done everything he has been asked to do, without complaint, and done it old school. He was asked to be the running back, yes sir, straight ahead as hard as you can go, nothing fancy. He was asked to return kicks, so he did. Goings has been the kind of pro you would want your kid to emulate, and if you have issues with what he does the question should go to who gave him that task. He is a very versatile player who is a valuable TEAM player. Thanks for what you do and the way you do it. By the way, I have watched Kris Jenkins very closely since he called everyone out. He does put his heart on the field. In fact, when the Cardinals ran it in for a score right over him, his heart was on the field, as he was laying on his stomach as the play passed him by.

You guys are all idiots - you get on here and complain about John Fox sticking with "his guys" whether or not you think they are any good, and you are doing the same thing with Goings.
I am all for bringing him back, but since he has been gone, we have played well and won and haven't fumbled in the end zone. He is a great 3rd of 4th sting back, but that is it.

Hey Willy, Jenkins is not the reason Arizona got that td. Gamble is the one who tried to two hand touch Edgerrin James, instead of tackling him. Jenkins is still the most consistently good player on our D-line. One bad play doesn't change that. I've seen him bust through a double team many times.

Let's try and look to what's important....winning. Could we play the Patriots right now and win? Could we play Manning right now and win? Can our secondary handle either of these quarterbacks? HELL NO! Our running game is fine with the options we have. I would like to see 1. williams 2. foster 3. goings-----done and done.
Now lets focus on how to stop great passers and great receivers. So I pose a question...
How do we play these teams? What is your perfect lineup? Who would you go with in the Secondary?
Posted by: Adam | Oct 18, 2007 3:36:55 PM
Honestly, Adam, I think our secondary has performed quite well thus far. We've had a lot of passes thrown against us this year because we've done even better against the run, but we're only allowing 6.4 YPA, which is 6th in the league and up there with teams like the Pats, Titans, and Colts. Furthermore, we're 4th in the league by only allowing 28.8% of passes to go for first downs. The overall passer rating we're allowing is 11th, at a very good 78.4 (a number that currently sits between those of Trent Edwards and Jay Cutler). In short, other teams are throwing the ball a lot, but we're keeping the play in front of us, cutting down on the home run ball for the most part, and we're starting to pick up on our ball-hawking ways, with 5 picks in just the last two weeks, a number that ranks 18th on the whole season. If the almighty Julius Peppers and the vaunted D-line could actually get any pressure on opposing QBs, the secondary could be doing even better. We're currently last in that stat with the Bills despite having played one more game than them. Given our expectations, particularly regarding the safeties, there's no way to say that the whole secondary isn't over-achieving, Chris Gamble's manhug of Edgerinn James notwithstanding.

I know this has nothing to do with football but, whats Going's ethnic background?
Posted by: joe | Oct 18, 2007 7:26:07 PM
"The son of a black father and white mother, the Carolina Panther running back has had plenty of opportunities to act white or even Italian or Hispanic. He's been called Italian, Hispanic and more. But Goings doesn't lie about his heritage. On forms, he checks African American and Caucasian."

You are so funny Procton, you know everything don't you. How about this...Procton was born from a female monkey and a male transvestite. But he acts like an idiot, white-nerdy Buc fan.

Furthermore Procton, I really think your serious in your Race/Ethnic analysis regarding Nick Goings. Upon further review, the fact that you know what box he checks on forms? Are you serious?

Umm...yes, that's a direct quote from a magazine article. I can find the author if you dispute the issue.

I look forward to Nick coming back. Ok, so he had a less than wonderful beginning this season. He's not alone. But he sure has been quite the team player in his tenure with the Panthers. And when we met him at training camp last season, I was even more impressed with him as a person. He chatted with us for quite a while and has a great personality to match his talent as an athlete.
Give him a chance people. He certainly isn't the only Panther with less than stellar stats in the first few games of 2007!!!

We come to this site to glean any info we can on our team. Michael Procton is willing to do the research when others (paid professionals presumably) wouldn't. Shut up SC and appreciate factual information as opposed to opinion. Both are OK on this board but actual facts are a little bit harder to come by. Whatever you think of M.P.'s opinions the facts he represents have been verifiable. If you want to attack him effectively, just do some research on your own and refute his posts.

with deangelo hall possibly on the move next year, wouldnt it be smart for carolina to actually get a cornerback that can cover someone. People lets face it lucas and gamble are ok corners, but hall would give us that fast shutdown corner we need, and trust me people we need a real true corner.
