Robinson returns to old job

Lost in Vinnymania Sunday was the fact that rookie Ryne Robinson got his job back. Robinson was drafted primarily to return punts, but had done little earlier this season. With Panthers quarterbacks seemingly unable to get the ball to receiver Steve Smith – he had 10 catches for 89 yards in the three previous games combined – the coaching staff was looking for other ways to get him the ball.

Quarterback Vinny Testaverde, though, hit Smith 10 times for 136 yards at Arizona, and Robinson was suddenly returning punts again, perhaps to let Smith catch his breath. Smith returned one for 1 yard, then Robinson got a shot and finally showed something, getting off returns of 13 and 23 yards and finishing with three for 44 yards, along with two fair catches.

Smith is too valuable to return punts on a regular basis; he’s still a great option in an emergency. But expect Robinson to keep the job for a while after showing some moves Sunday.

What I want to know why have'nt the Panthers try to make a trade before the trade deadline for a player or players I mean the Bucs got a running back a desperate need the Charger got a WR chris Chamber by the way a pro bowler from their own conferene why can't the Panthers make a idea to get Santana Moss or Javon Walker for a 2008 2nd Round pick and get Safety John Lynch or Darren Sharp for a 3rd round I mean we're still tied with Tampa for the lead and or competition not getting any easier an with both are QBs going to need extra weapons to take us to the playoff and we have a bye so the playes could learn the playbook , I mean we should take a risk the Cowboys and Patriots did it don't look like it hurted them , GM Marty Hurney want to be known as a good GM he has to make some moves even if Coach Fox won't ask for it that his Job and you never Know we could get Alge Crumpler teams will make trade you might not thought they won't but you got to ask and see GM Marty Hurney step up and ask and do your JOB.

Posted by: panther hopeful | Oct 16, 2007 2:49:02 PM

The Panthers love to have draft picks, Fox/Hurney have always wanted to build throught the draft and its no shock that they are not trading away any picks. they've already traded away their 5th rounder for Chris Harris so I really dont see them trading any more of them.

And who says John Lynch, Darren Sharper, Javon Walker, and Santana Moss are on the trading block?? It makes no sense for any of those teams to trade away their players.

Sorry Panther Hopeful, the trades I allow don't happen in reality.

Keep up the good worked on your franchise though!

So I guess you guys believe the Panthers GM
can't be like New England Patriot and find a way even when their look like their no way I guess so far its since it haven't happen but their first for everything.

Posted by: panther hopeful | Oct 16, 2007 5:05:08 PM

The Panthers should trade away all their draft picks. They're only going to waste them on draft day anyway.

sorry made a little mistake so I guess you
guys believe the Panthers GM can't be like New England Patriot and find a way even when their look like their no way I guess so far its true since it haven't happen but their first for everything

Dear panther hopeful,

You can not write a complete sentence to save your life. You also spelled "hopefull" wrong. If you want anyone to take you seriously, you should learn to communicate in a better way.

Posted by: Tony F'ing Rowell | Oct 16, 2007 5:24:54 PM

Actually, you did spell hopeful right. Your grammer was so bad in the previous 2 posts, you had me seeing double.

Posted by: Tony F'ing Rowell | Oct 16, 2007 5:26:56 PM

I did not realizzzee that we had a english teacher in our blog. Everyone has a right to type their opinion spellled right or rong.

GO PANTHERS
JUST WIN BABY, JUST WIN

pslholder, just to let you know...you did not spell 'realize' correctly or 'wrong' for that matter.

Posted by: English Teacher | Oct 16, 2007 7:04:19 PM

It doesn't take an English teacher to recognize or write grammatically correct English. This semiliterate tard, panther hopeful, needs to invest in a dictionary and a remedial education rather than trying to sound like he knows what he's talking about.

Sign me, you guys really could use a decent running back!!!

Posted by: Boobie Miles | Oct 16, 2007 7:34:13 PM

Get off the grammar crap you idiots. This is a football blog, not a college english class. If you want to showcase your superior rhetoric, then go teach school. But if you want to type on this blog, then stick to football. I'll admit panther hopeful does need a grammar lesson, but it's really not our place to call him out. LETS GO PANTHERS!!!!!!(Keyword Panthers, not grammar lesson)

Posted by: Ace | Oct 16, 2007 7:47:27 PM

That first post has exactly 1 period.

Its not so much that the grammer is bad, its that every sentence has about 350 words in it.

Right or wrong, throw in a period or exclamation point, or some other indication that a thought has ended and another one has begun. It is when this happens that we can talk about football instead having our eggs scrambled by the worlds longest sentences.

Lets go D'.....Peppers keep the energy going cause the Colts are planning for him...back side blocks and everything....but you besta believe that they are planning for him not to touch Manning and put him out like Peps did Warner...Be careful and play smart Pep and D'....Go get em'....4 sacks 2 ints...get our first win at home this season. Match the intensity as on the road, continue on out.....Give the Charlottians what they have been waiting for. Reason to yell and cheer...VICTORY!!!

That is the most excited Panther fan I have ever seen!! Hey Fox, get this "FanD" fella in the locker room to deliver the pregame speech. I'm boosted like Jarad Cooper on XanaX just from reading that post!!!!

I love when people make grammAr corrections while spelling the word "grammEr."

Hey Tony F'ing Rowell,

I agree the post was tough to read but at least spell correctly when you are criticizing his post......Cannot has always been one word

Gentlemen, I prefer to be written at least semi-properly on this blog. I am insulted by panther hopeful's inability to use proper punctuation and spelling or for that matter his incredulous use of grammar.

How would you like it if someone totally abused you? It's not very fun.

Posted by: The English Language | Oct 17, 2007 6:50:18 AM

Observer columnists,

Please do some detailed reporting on Indy's defense, I would like to see what our offense is up against.

Who is the Colts' backup quarterback, in case we get the shot and knock Manning out of the game?

Is Marvin Harrison going to play?
How do our special teams stats compare to theirs?

We all know they pass, but where does Indy's ground game rank?

Will Williams finally replace Foster as the starter at RB for this game?

I see that Casey Cramer, another player we let get away, is getting a lot of playing time, and seeming to do well. How about an article that lists ex-Panthers still playing and how they are doing, so that we can see if what we lose is productive elsewhere?

Please hurry, so these Panther faithfuls will have some football to discuss rather than take shots at each other. And please folks, if my grammer and grandpa post and use improper grammar please don't attack them with big words like incredulous or fondue.

Posted by: Willy | Oct 17, 2007 7:41:08 AM

Willy, first of all you have to understand that people often attack each other on this blog. I don't why, but it doesn't surprise me anymore.

As for your comments, well I'll say that Daniel Manning and Muhsin Muhammad look good in Chicago, Will Witherspoon plays great football in St. Louis, Marlon McCree is a solid safety in San Diego (despite fumbling in a loss to NE in the playoffs), and Deon Grant is a solid starter in Seattle. Did I happen to mention that each of those guys plays a position that has been a weakness for us since they left? As for us trading away draft picks for other players as someone else mentioned, well we need them to do things like draft Eric Shelton before Frank Gore, and Stefan Lefors on the first day of the draft.

Posted by: charlsong1 | Oct 17, 2007 9:58:38 AM

Thanks. I could be wrong, but it just seems like more and more players we have let go are popping up with a lot of playing time on other teams.

Posted by: Willy | Oct 17, 2007 10:18:41 AM

But consider the opposite...

Mike Wahle (ex Packer) doing 'pretty well'
Ken Lucas (ex Seahawk) a solid starter
Chris Harris (ex Bear) doing better
Jeremy Bridges (ex Cardinal) a solid starter

It would be great to keep every player that might fit longterm, but it is not possible. A lot of players that we have released have gone on to.....nothing in the NFL, so it is a hit/miss proposition. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Posted by: Beaster | Oct 17, 2007 10:59:41 AM

But you can eat some delicious Bojangles chicken available during the game and announced more than the game.

Posted by: Willy | Oct 17, 2007 11:16:36 AM

The Panthers need to trade Deshaun Foster for some draft picks and make Williams the starter and SIGN Corey Dillon and make him our 3rd down/short yardage guy

Posted by: BiG EZ | Oct 17, 2007 11:35:05 AM

I ain't playin for no damn Panthers. and F**k Bill Belichick!

charlsong said -"I'll say that Daniel Manning look good in Chicago"

Thats all fine and dandy but Daniel Manning was never a Carolina Panther. You are probably mistaking him for Ricky Manning Jr. who WAS a panthers and in fact made three interception during the 2003 Championship game vs Philadelphia.

Posted by: Zenmanship | Oct 17, 2007 5:56:12 PM

Yeah...Casey Cramer sure was a big loss. We definitely would have missed his 2 catches for 8 yards since he left.
Ricky (NOT DANIEAL) Manning was fairly solid last year for the Bears last year, but hasn't done squat this year.
Muhammad has put up mediocre-decent #2 numbers, but he was really signed to be their #1. Compared to the money he's getting paid, he's absolutely performed since he left the Panthers, and this year, he's frankly been pretty bad.
McCree's season last year was overrated because of his big hits (it wasn't as good as his year here, though he's back to some good ball-hawking ways this year.
Deon Grant has also been pretty good in Seattle, but he's never had a season as good as his last one in Carolina either.
If you look at each of these guys and ask if it was worth it to pay them like their final seasons here, it just doesn't add up.
Furthermore, when it comes to the draft, hindsight is CERTAINLY an easier way to evaluate picks. If you go back and look at all the consensus scouting reports, odds were that Eric Shelton was going to have a long career as a punishing big back in the mold of Stephen Davis, whereas Gore's knee injuries were going to keep him from ever producing at the NFL level. Stephan LeFors also made sense given not only his success at the college level, but I never saw him look anything but good in the preseason.
Dillon has said that the list of teams he's willing to play for is very limited, and he's really old to boot. Furthermore, it would make absolutely NO sense to trade away our most complete back and give the starting job to a guy who's just as likely to get hammered for a 5-yard loss as to break one for even eight or ten. DeAngelo shows flashes, but he still struggles with just getting positive yardage when a play breaks down or the blocking isn't just perfect like he expects.

listen, this a football blog. I'm not going to waste my time typing this like its for a grade. I've I enough of english class.

No problem with that, Joe...that's your prerogative. But if you're as retarded as the first guy, you might just have a hard time getting your point across. Well, that is, if you actually had one.
