Mixed signals from Foster's statistics
A popular statistic used often by the Panthers was the team’s record in games in which running back DeShaun Foster got 15 or more carries. Earlier this season, that mark was 23-2. After four straight losses, it’s 23-6.
So another number was found; Carolina was 16-0 in games in which Foster had rushed for 70 or more yards. Oops; Foster gained 87 on Sunday. Make that 16-1.

Deshaun Foster is overrated but only in Bank of America Stadium. Who really mentions Foster's name outside of Charlotte. Deangelo Williams needs to get more carries. I am a huge Deangelo Williams fan and loved the fact that Carolina drafted him but two running backs are needed and I would not mind bringing one of the premiere backs from the college ranks. Darren McFadden, P.J. Hill, whatever his name is from Michigan. There are some good running backs out there. Highly unlikely but wouldn't it be nice. This is the year for Carolina to draft a QB as well. Not first round but 3rd or 4th. I guarantee a good QB will come out of those rounds next year.

Those stats are misleading because he gets the rushes and yards when the Panthers are leading and want to eat up the clock. You could also say "In games when the 2nd string QB comes in to back up Tom Brady they go undefeated." Well yeah...because they pull Brady since they're winning. Does that mean the backup has anything to do with it? No....another useless and misleading stat.

If that is true, useless, then it also means Foster is running against defense that are stacking the line... as we already know that they are... and is still getting positive yardage. Williams, on the other hand, couldn't get positive yardage if he were shot from a catapult! The team needs a great north/south runner and Foster as as close to that as possible. In short, Pat Yasisnskaliuskioski makes me want to vomit with all the hag writing he keeps posting!! And that point was just as random as all the points this creep's articles make.

Those who knock Fox's coaching ability should heed the A**hole* comentator comments about Fox's ability to see things on the field when Fox challenged to get credit for the fumble caused by Julius Poopers (still calling him poopers cause I know it's a matter of time b4 he goes back to watching the game on the field). Thing is, the commentator was being his usual facecious self, but he couldn't be more right (even though the referee did not give the Panthers the ball after confirming it was in fact a fumble)!!! Once again Fox is not been given due credit!!! That being said, I did post comments during the preseason how the Cats were in for a bad season because Fox lost control of his team... I stand by that, but that's not entirely his fault... There are people above him that make personnel decisions as well FYI! They are the reason he has lost players and players' respect. Unless that changes, than Cowher and/or any other coach brought in will have the same problems.

As long as Foster remains the starting running back the Panthers will remain one of the worst offenses in the NFL. His running style (Very little momentum when he reaches the line of scrimmage, if a hole is not there he gets stuffed and goes down parallel to the LOS for a two yard gain, any good back should end up perpendicular to the LOS)is more conducive to a back-up, someone who can come in and take advantage of the defense once its been softened up, like the way Stephen Davis used to do.
Trade Foster to Minnesota for Chester Taylor.

Stats are for losers Stan.

So how about the Panthers record when foster rushes for over 82yds a game??

I don't blame Foster. He might not be a Pro bowl running back, but he's working with a rather terrible offensive line. He hasn't had any holes to work with all season. Watch, and you'll see him getting wrapped up by defensive tackles almost every time. Really, the offensive line should take care of the defensive line, and the linebackers/secondary should be forced to stop the running back.
But that's not the way it's working, and it's hard to pin it all on Foster. The offensive line is a HUGE part. Look what's happened to running backs like Edgerrin James. Great runner + poor offensive line = mediocre results.
Would I love to have a better running back? Sure. Give me a power back like Jerome Bettis with Williams backing him up on the cutback, and I'd be thrilled. Though, I don't think it's our biggest problem. The offensive line and wide receivers are a much bigger issue. No quarterback is going to be effective with only one target (Smith, who is injured, so now we have no targets).
I think we also need to look at gambling on a new quarterback, but that's a separate post altogether.
If we take a running back in the draft, I think it needs to be in the third round or later. Otherwise, I don't think we're going to see much of a difference. Let's stick with Foster and Williams until we get some of the other problems fixed.

Foster is absolutely horrible. Warton is garbage too and Gross is very overrated. We need a RB, Two OTs, and a healthy backup QB. Gamble is by far the Panther I despise the most. Gamble sucks

We could be like the patriots. No heart but all that $$ could get us anything we want. Including a victorias secret model girlfriend. With that kinda money that's like dating your right hand. Personally, I realized I'd rather have this team. It's nice to know that we can appreciate a win to be what it is: special. And Carolina fans can quit whining that we're not good enough cuz that's all i've been hearing for the last year and a half. It's not making peppers or foster or anybody play any better. You're just making a00000s out of yourselves.

Anyone who thinks our losing is because of Foster is a moron...
I get tired of people with no football knowledge chiming in.

Stan, its not a mixed signal, the point is that the Panthers are very successful when Foster carries 15 times or more and/or when he gaines over 70 yards.

Foster never has been and never will be a feature back, I still say we made a huge mistake signing him again when we could have signed Alexander for bigger money and had a true feature back BUT with all that said Foster is not to blame for the losses this year, that is 100% Fox - specifically his moronic playcalling. If Fox would run Foster to the corners instead of these suicidal draw plays on 3 and 16 dead up the middle with no blocking from our overpaid and talent depeleted O line we might not be having this discussion at all.

um, look up Shaun Alexander's stats and his games played since that super bowl season and then tell me he would have been worth that money
