Panthers shuffle D-line
The Panthers shook up their defensive line Saturday morning, elevating defensive tackle Gary Gibson and releasing defensive end Otis Grigsby. The move is a signal the Panthers are prepearing to play without injured defensive tackle Damione Lewis (shoulder) and plan to use Gibson as the fourth defensive tackle. - Pat Yasinskas

Typical, letting one of the more explosive, un-used player go. Grigsby has great potential. Now I suppose he'll be kicking our tail somewhere down the road.

Shoot they better be ready to watch where Greg Jennings is...That is Farves right hand man....gear up Lucas on him and put Marshall or Gamble on Driver....D-Line step up and get to somebody, create turnovers and take them to the house....D is slowly cranking it up!

i'm sorry this is my team till the end but what gives. we keep getting other teams scraps i understand that people can excel in other places but be honest. we are messing up. firing fox, may not be the answer after all he did upgrade us, but just the seem the people we have in there now, i can't understand. millions of dollars to catch or to block and you cant do it. spells to me release please. Grigsby has been getting his chance (as sparingly as it was) but did not produce! Wallace was able to get in the backfield on a regular basis with his limited time. I agree with Panta! Enough scraps, thing is... everybody is neglecting the fact the the Cats were salary cap strapped in the offseason. They had to make many moves just to get where they are today. The staff should be applauded for what they've managed to scrounge up! Furthermore, hindsight is 20/20 people, so just give it a rest already!

So what? If cutting Grigsby dooms our defense then we're in big trouble. We have plenty of young DE's waiting in the wings...we just drafted another this year. I'm more worried about how we're going to keep our QB alive rather than a fourth team DT.

Whomever this guy is If FOX and Hurney picked him Then I am less than optimistic about his skills! Such IDIOTS!!! these are the same guys that picked Thomas THE BUST! DAVIS! and Kerry Colbert and D. Carter and Eric Shelton and Charles Johnson! and Etaliayah Ellison...and released!! DOCKET! Who's starting and a BEAST! DT for the Cards right now..for KEMO!!?? God I can't wait to fire J. fox and M. Hurney If Getting blown out by 50 every week is what it takes to get Fox Fired! then LETS GO PACKERS!!!

Thomas the bust Davis? You're one to call someone else an idiot after a comment like that.

Wait and see, Grigsby will become a starter somewhere else in a couple of years. He never has been given the opportunity to play himself out.

If you don't think Thomas Davis is a bust, you obviously have NOT watched the Panthers play since he was drafted in 2004. He was picked over Derrick Johnson, and only God knows why. Keary Colbert couldn't make a CFL team yet he starts for the Panthers. Drew Carter couldn't catch a cold if you threw him in the middle of the Algonquin in a pair of wet clothes. Eric Shelton, regardless of what people say, was never given ANY carries to try to prove himself. They don't even let Dwayne Jarrett play, even though he's got two pedestrians above him on the depth chart. The Kemo signing was horrible, major downgrade from JORDAN CARSTENS, who tore it up in 2005. Chris Gamble is no good at CB, he has the tackling ability of Deion with the coverage ability of Fred Smoot. I honestly cannot wait for heads to roll after this season. Goodbye Foxy, Trgo (worst D coordinator in the league), and Hurney. Start Matt Moore so I can atleast have some hope for the remaining games this season. Vinny is no future and Carr should not start another game of football, in any league, for the rest of his life.

Davis played a hybrid role his rookie year and was a rookie at his position(OLB) last season. He was second in tackles at the end of the year and has played very well this season. His coverage of TE's has been very solid and he's great against the run. Think before you speak.

Man, the Panthers make bad choices. I hope getting rid of Otis Grigsby doesnt end up as a mistake. But I'll tell you some actual big mistakes the Panthers have made this season that Fox should be held accountalbe for. First of all, the David Carr acquisition was a big mistake, and I doubted Carr's ability to be a sufficient QB from the get go. Also, firing Mike Maser (the Panthers' previous Offensive Line Coach) and replacing him with Dave Magazu (the Panthers' current Offensive Line Coach) was a big mistake, and thats one of the reasons why you see our offensive line playing so poorly. The next bad decision was not firing special teams coach, Danny Crossman. The Panthers also messed up by booting Keyshawn Johnson to the curve. If the Panthers were going to get rid of Keyshawn, then they sould have brought in a proven #2 wide receiver, but the Panthers didn't bring in a legit receiver and look at all the problems they are having at this position. Now lets take a look at the weakest link on the coaching staff; remember last year when everyone was on the "Fire Henning" band wagon, well I hope you all are happy now. I will admit I was on that same band wagon, but now I regret I ever boarded that wagon. Jeff Davidson has truely proven to be the weakest coach on the team; he just cant conduct a productive offense. Davidson has got to go next year. I would've included keeping Defensive Coordinator Mike Trgovac in the coaching line up as a mistake, but he has turned the defense around this year. And the last big mistake of the Panthers decision makers this season was not bringing in a dominant left offensive tackle. Travelle Wharton, the Panthers current left tackle, is probably the worst left offensive tackle in the NFL. I honestly don't think Fox will be here next year to correct the mistakes he has made this year. Hopefully next years coach can fix the holes that Fox has put in the Panthers organization.

I have a proposition for yewww all....
Fire Fox and instead of hiring Cowher or Schottenheimer, steal someone away from the Patriots or Colts or another up and comer like a Lesley Frazier (D-coordinator from Minn) and a Tony Dungy protege.
There's teww many other guys out there to settle on just Cowher and Schottenheimer.
Remember, the last time we got a Super Bowl winning coach it didn't work out teww well.

In response to John, are you serious? You can't make excuses for players who can't cover and get lost in space way too much. Jon Beason does not have near the speed that Davis does yet Beas can actually cover RBs, most notably Reggie Bush, without looking like a lost bum. If you compare the two, Beason makes tackles while attacking while Davis makes tackles that come to him. Thomas Davis is not a good OLB. The Panthers NEVER should have let Will Witherspoon go. Thomas Davis has just set them back a few years. I have seen Thomas Davis miss way too many assignments to even consider him an "ok" linebacker. It's disgraceful. The man sucks.
Sidenote: what ever happened to letting James Anderson develop?

I'm about tired of reading this guy 'SYRPIS' opinion. He's just as bad as Procton. They are probably the same person...both act like they are f**king Einstein and think they coach for the team or something.

While I understand the defense is catching heat, and because of that Trgovac is under some serious heat, I don't get all of the static on this board about eveything that points to the defense! I agree with a lot of what you are all saying - individual performances have fallen off, and Carolina is getting beat by teams that, on paper, they have more skill than. Add to that the series of draft picks and other roster moves that haven't vaulted this team into a true elite status, throw in some losing at home week in and week out, and you're left with a frustrated and angry fan base. That's crystal clear on this board every day.
I'd call myself a die-hard Panthers fan, and I really live and die with the outcome of each week's game. It's sad, really...decals on my car, banner in my cube at work, jerseys and all the other trimmings. I come here and read these posts as a fan of the team and, more importantly, a fan of the GAME, and grin.
As a Panther fan, it's great to see other people that are fanatical about this team. As a FOOTBALL fan, the way everybody is screaming about all of this is silly - this team became something completely different when Jake Delhomme went down, and that's the whole story!
The defense, to it's credit, has played a LOT more minutes and have STILL managed to keep Carolina in the game. In three of this team's losses, the defense played at LEAST 10 more minutes that then offense and still only gave up 20 points each time. That says a lot - and if the damn offense could just MOVE THE BALL, it would be a completely different story. You can't move the ball with a backup, even if he IS David Carr, as effectively as you can with a starter, even if he's Jake Delhomme.
Everybody just breathe - wait and see where this team goes with some consistency at QB...wait and see what's what after 13 weeks and what is being posted then.

the reason there is no defense is cause mike minter is retired, and the line is not putting the pressure on qb except for Jenkins and Rucker and backups when we are on the field for so long. offense there is none when you dont run ball and you only got one reciever to throw to. smith is the only reciever who gets any attention on the field cause he is the only play macker on the field, and has been the only weapon on the offense for some time now.

Yall talkin about coaches....which I think Fox might keep his job one more year to prove his worth.......But why did Carolina get rid of Brad Seely.....Now he has won Super Bowl with the Patriots and have been on their since he left us......what is that?? Now the coach that should come along with Brad is Josh McDaniels.....He would be an excellent coach for us young and motivated...he can get our talent and attitude back into swing and kick *#@% every Sunday..... Im pulling the Josh McDaniels Card folks....we better make a run for him if their are plans to get rid of Fox before someone else knows about him and take him for their coach.....Bring McDaniels and Brad as our head coach and special teams coach....lets here the response.....
