Smith's injury somewhat of a mystery
Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith missed Sunday's game at Green Bay with a shin contusion that he suffered the week before in the Atlanta game. At the time, he didn't even realize he had injured himself.
"I don't know what happened," he said Monday. "All I know is that I came in (the locker room); my leg was throbbing when the adrenalin came down. I put some ice on it and I woke up on Tuesday and my leg was swollen.
"I don't remember anything; we were trying to figure it out," he said of how he received the injury. "I didn't notice it until I was actually physically getting undressed. And I didn't think it was going to do what it did Tuesday. I could put weight on it, but I couldn't run as well as I wanted to run."
It's the left shin, on the leg he broke in 2004. But the injury only involved soft tissue, and Smith said he felt much better this week than he did a week ago. Given that he was almost well enough to play at Green Bay, barring a setback expect him to play against New Orleans Sunday. -- STAN OLSON

Ok, lets say we fire Fox, we still have Jake who may not be ready by next season, Carr who sucks and unproven Matt Moore and Basenez, we have no consistent running back, our WR core is terrible (minus Smitty) the front 7 is very suspect other than Beason and maybe Thomas Davis and Lewis.
The point is, you can put Bill Cower, Tony Dungy, Marty Schottenheimer, etc... in the main chair and all of them would struggle to get this team to a .500 record. We are terrible without Jake and unless we have a decent backup qb, it really doesnt matter who coaches this team.
Nice hoodies though, a bit too pricey, though.

Isn't Fire Fox 2 words? Lame!

What the Deuce?
LAME Cat'sFan... LAME...
BTW FIREFOX rules and Internet explorer SUCKS...
as to the only reply in this blog that has an actual comment on FOOTBAL, i agree with Mattdaddy...
the best coach in the world or football history would struggle to get this team to the playoffs..
we do not take advantage of ree agency...
we cant draft if our lives depended on it...
and the owners dont want the fans to actually cheer at gamesm, they rather entertain guests with WINE and CHEESE...
Charlotte is by far the WORST football town in the NFL...we need fans to com to the game hungry like fans do in New AEngland, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Green Bay, Dalas, Denver, ... hell even Oakland has better fans than carolina/charlotte...

The Panthers beat the Patriots in 2005 regular season (that was even while the Pats were still stealing other teams signals).
The Panthers also blanked the NY Football Giants in NJ first round of playoffs 23-0...wasn't it? Then beat the mighty 13-3 Bears in chi-town a week later.
There are players on this team that were a part of our recent success, and we also have some new players that could help get us there again (Beason, Marshall...to name a couple, maybe others?).
Yeah, there are a lot of dropped passes, fumbles, missed tackles, etc....but I'm not sure that all of this couldn't be eliminated with a little better direction from coaching staff. Conservative & poor play-calling may help set the stage for poor execution.

Hey guys it will be a tough season next year. I can't get you into the playoff's with the sh!tty drafting and free agency moves that the previous coach / gm made. But I will start from here and make better player decisions. I will get a playbook that has more than 10 pages and I will let my coordinators coach their positions, so I can focus on being a head coach and managing the team. The only time I will intervene with coaching is if it gets as bad as it was last year. Stick with me, we are not a good team, YET!

FireFox does mean to just go get a new coach. hat's what Free Agency and offseason is for. New coach will bring in his own new staff. Will make trades, get new players through free agency and of course with a new GM as well.
So here it is.....
Fire FOX and Hurney.....Lame or not that's what lots of fans want.

I think Hooover45 has hit the nail on the head.
It's the trickle-down effect. The team's attitude begins at the top and eventually settles among the ranks. If Fox is aggressively fighting for every inch and never giving up, then the coordinators, position coahces, players, etc. are going to subconsciously "mimic" thier leader's behavior. Think of the great leaders throughout history whose nations have absorbed and reflected their power.
As evil as he may have been, even the tiny, poor nation of Germany once threatened all of Europe because of Hitler's leadership.
But even that's not going to change the fact that the lame-duck defensive scheme may be an accurate reflection of what may or--more realistically--may not reside between Trgovac's ears.
Variations of the Cover-2 do not qualify as "mixing it up" on defense. The Cover-2 is a "safe" defense that depends on pressure from the defensive line. If there is no pressure, then the scheme is no longer a "safe" bet.
If QB's are never pressured, then they will pick your defense apart--it doesn't matter if it's Brady or Boller--especially with the play of our secondary as of late.
And on a different note, how 'bout them refs!

A pooch punt isn't necessarily a bad play.

Hey Panfan1, the shirt is for mozilla firefox. It's a web browser that many people use instead of Internet Explorer. It's one word because "firefox" is one word.
The joke is that many of us Panther fans want Coach Jon Fox to get fired!! That's why the shirts that say "firefox" are funny! Hopefully, lots of Panther fans will be these shirts and wear them to the games, that would be hilarious.
And seriously dude, did you really have to have that one explained to you? That's sad.

"Buy these shirts", not "be these shirts".

Syrpis, you suck. Go write some more articles for Pat or whomever else you prefer to blow!

Team loses more than wins = fans taking their anger and blaming the coaches(classic)
Of course its always the coaches fault
The last time I checked John Fox isn't droping passes left and right and producing 2.5 sacks.

So... poor play selection, poor defensive schemes, poor player development, poor player utilization, and a poor coaching philosophy to play not to lose are the faults of the players?
Sure, most of the players out there on the field these past couple of months have been playing uninspired, unimaginative football, but what do you expect when continually poor coaching decisions ultimately cause the team to give the game away?
I'd say your attention to detail, Joe, is about as good as your inability to see the beam for the mote.
Take a moment to think about all the things that are wrong with the team. Then you have to ask yourself, "is it just a coincidence that so many things are wrong at once?"
My answer to you is that there are no coincidences.
Take a look at the rankings, look at the stats, and then tell me how losing Delhomme causes our defensive line to suddenly become lame, for the receivers to run bad routes and drop so many balls, for the offensive line to suddenly become a sieve, for even bad offenses to put up 20+ points every week, for every single woe that this team is now burdened by.
Is it really the players--or the scheme?
Go ahead and fall in line with the rest of the sheep and blame ninety-percent of the players on the roster--it's what lazy, single-minded people do when they don't feel like thinking.

I'm not a Fox-hater, really. And yeah, you’re right, I could have fooled you.
I just think that he was thrust into a position that he knew little about, and he's having a hard time adapting to the ever-changing world of the NFL.
I'm sure he has his talents--I mean this team didn't steer itself to two NFC Title games in three years by itself--but he also has his flaws. And I believe they are that he is either unable or unwilling to embrace the fact that one style of football--on both sides of the ball--will not work forever. Other teams have studied our schemes in earnest, poring over every microscopic detail and tendency, while searching for a way to defeat it. And it appears that other teams finally have found that fatal flaw in our schemes, and now it's time to adapt, shift, alter our own schemes to create a wrinkle that will slow down our opponents until they can figure it out.
Right now the NFL trend is pass-first, not ball control. In another seven years the trend will have come full circle and will once again be ball control. But until then, passing records will fall and running backs will see diminished roles overall on the field.
Adaptation is the key. But the failure thereof is the final nail in the coffin.
Adapt or die. That is all I can say.

I got an idea about the firefox t-shirts.
Someone call Richardson about it, he will probably fill the stadium with adertisment for them if we do, anything for an extra buck...

you never know... carolina could still win out and make the playoffs. still is a chance. And i do agree with the adapt or die. in mid-season, we do not have the tecnical answers that require simple fixes. it is more complex.... it is apapting. carolina has problems, so now they are fighting to figure out how to adapt to their lack of qb situation and pass walk(not rush b/c there isnt any).
i still believe. at least we're not 1-9... i know it doesnt help, but we can still turn it around. the staple of this team is a strong first part, weak middle, and well finishing... lets see if it continues or not...

I'd say this week's game is a must-win. The only chance we have is to win the division and the wild card is kind of out of the picture. If we can win 4 out of the next 6 and we have a chance.

No mystery to me. Steve Smith doesn't want to get injured because he want's the f..k out.
