Fox shielded Carr from home crowd
Coach John Fox usually doesn't say much of anything in his Monday news
conferences. But he did have one interesting thing to say about quarterback
David Carr this week.

Wow, that's not the answer I expected from Fox at all. What happened to "it is what it is"?
It is pretty interesting that Fox's most candid remarks are all about Carr. I wonder if he's really trying to protect Carr or if he is trying to protect himself for wanting Carr?

I hope that was Foxy opting not to back the bus back over a guy who is clearly UNDER the bus do to his poor play. No one could seriously think that Carr has anything to offer as an NFL QB. I don't know the cap ramifications, but it should be obviously that you ditch Carr and try to "move forward" with Moore, Basenez, and Jake next year.

Let me see if I can translate that statement.
"I'm saving Carr for away games because he'd be booed out of the stadium if I tried to play him here. I needed that win at home yesterday to save my (job). Carr is a mental case. But I'm still going to play him because I can't believe anyone can be as bad as he's shown. It's been ugly, and I don't know if it's going to get better or not."
Close?

What Bruno said. The only thing that would have happened if Carr had taken the field would be a chorus of boos. Coach Fox is obviously worried about his job at this point (if he isn't, he should be), and playing Carr at home just gives fans one more reason to call for Fox to go away.
Fox would be wise to play Vinny as much as he can, for the rest of the season. If Carr comes in, the political hit to Fox will continue to mount.

Fox said WHAT? He wanted to shield Carr from the hometown fans? If Fox worked for me I'd fire him on the spot for that remark alone! What that says, is Fox chose the QB not on ability but by default. If I were Testeverde, I'd pack my bags, cancel my contract and go back and enjoy his family and his fortune on Long Island. Fox should have stood up and backed the steady play of VT and then say nothing else. In 40 years of following the NFL, Carr is by far the worst QB I've seen in nearly 15-20 years. And for Fox to say he didnt want to "expose" him at Boa Stadium suggests that he MIGHT want to "expose" him on the road. Here's my deal: I'm a PSL owner, if Fox starts Carr agin this season, I will sell my PSL's PERIOD! Perhaps its about time for Mr Richarson to step in and council Coach Fox on the implications of his public statements to the overall financial health of the Club.

Next year having Delhomme, Basanez and Moore as 1,2+3 sounds really good. Keeping Carr would just hurt the growth of Basanez and Moore, both of which have a good chance to be what Carr can't be, a good QB.

No Bob, Vinny was named the starter, he was the starter regardless of if Carr was activated. And had Fox activated Carr, he would most likely have been 3rd on the depth chart, so Fox probably didnt want to tie up a roster spot with a 3rd qb so he deactivated Carr to open up anther roster spot. THe fact that this was a home game only made the decision to bench Carr a bit easier.

Sorry M West but having a choice of Moore or Basanez behind Jake next year is not good enough in my view. We don't know if his elbow is going to be ready or not. If Vinny can last another year that would be ok. Otherwise we need to find another FA. Hopefully Hurney can find us another Jake instead of a Carr. CatScratchReader.com

Huck...did I miss something but Carr WAS the 3rd QB...I saw nothing about him being deactivated. Regardless though, your last comment about making it easier bacuse it was at BoA skirts the whole point: sustained poor performace on the field, should under the best of diplomacy be left with a "no comment". But to suggest he was being protected from perhaps the boo-birds that would have been launched because it was at home, even in the most generous of terms, is an indicting comment from an NFL Head Coach. Unfortunately his follow up comments leaves the door open to be started when AWAY from BoA...which again suggests Fox isnt being very smart about his comments.

I am by no means a Carr fan but I think a large part of the blame has got to go to the coaches. This coaching staff(on the offensive side of the ball) does a poor job of getting new players and rookies ready to play. I think Fox knows this (that's why he won't draft a QB in the first round) and is protecting Carr. I see too much correlation between Carr and Dwayne Jarret. How do two players go through training camp, preseason and part of the regular season and not know what the heck they are doing. Maybe Davidson being in his first year is part of the problem and will improve with time.

Hey, dumbass Bob: the third quarterback IS inactive! Unless there is an injury to the first two QBs on the depth chart, this player may not enter the game until the fourth quarter.

Humiliate me? Hardly. Why don't you check the gamebook, put out by none other than the NFL (http://www.panthers.com/panthers/uploadedFiles/Gameday/Links/sfGamebook.pdf).
Funny thing: one D. Carr who wears #8 was listed as the "QB3rd" among the "NOT ACTIVE" players.

Furthermore, I hope you're proud to hide behind your cyber-anonymity. Slinging mud isn't hard behind a mask, kiddo.

He is right Michael Procton. NFL rules state that if the 3rd quarterback enters the game prior to the fourth quarter, the listed #1 and #2 quarterbacks cannot re-enter the game. In the fourth quarter all is fair.
You owe Bob an apology because Bob was not wrong, you were. I hope you will be man enough to admit your mistake and apologize accordingly, you calling him that name was uncalled for man.

That was interesting...
Well, Procton?:-)

Procton must be inactive?

If Carr starts next week Fox should be drug-tested.

ALWAYS HAS SOMETHING NEGATIVE TO SAY.... HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!!!!!!!! The Panthers could be undefeated this season and Yainskalukioski will still be finding a reason to fire Fox and hire Cowher!

Is there any chance that someone could "shield" the home crowd from Fox and his horrid coaching!
Posted by: Matt West | Dec 4, 2007 12:08:43 AM
You know uh..the season hasnt gone as we expected it to. Um...you know it is what it is though. We came out with the win and can hopefully continue to win. Im more happy to get this win for you guys than myself. You know uh...we palyed a good football team and were lucky enough to persevere in the end. Reality of it is were a 5-7 football team...again could be better could be worse. I dont think its been lack of effort all season...just lack of execution on uh..the players not pulling it out in the end. You know we hope to get better and maybe theres a chance you guys can uhh..uh..forget whats happened and let me have another season to f#ck up.

Remember during September when this website polled readers as to whether Carr should replace Jake as the starting QB? Remember that? With #17 on IR, how's that journey to promised land going for the Panthers?
Posted by: Ben Hill | Dec 4, 2007 3:57:53 AM
What it is is a slap to the face of the fans.
Instead of saying that he demoted Carr because he was ineffective, he chose to take a not-so-subtle jab at the fans by saying that he didn't want to subject one of his players to the verbal disappointment that fans are expressing due to not having witnessed a win at home in more than a year--and the abysmal play of our only “significant” offseason acquisition. I’d say Deke Cooper has proved more “significant” than David “Glove-U-4ever” Carr.
Anyway, if it fires ol’ Fox up, then I say keep the insults coming.

Can you imagine the ridicule this comment creates for Carr in the locker room? Daddy has to watch out for baby whose wittle feelings can get hurt. Fox didn't do Carr any favors by making this public statement, confirming that Carr is so mentally fragile that he needs protection. Or...perhaps Fox is smarter than that and is simply laying the groundwork to justify Carr's dismisal after this year. Either way, I don't see how you can justify putting him in a game unless both Vinny and Moore are on a stretcher now - you would be admitting defeat to your fans and your team after this comment. If there was any chance Carr had not lost the team - and the QB has to have the team's belief - this pretty much ended it. It is so out of character for Fox to say anything definitive, I think he did this on purpose as a means to a later end.
I still don't understand why no Richardson gets interviewed - hell ambush him in the mall or something - by anyone in the paper or local tv. It seems they have been told "hands off". The fact that there is no communication between the fans and the owners other than the team's performance - and the win over SF was simply beating up Forrest Gump - tells me that they are now firmly entrenched in the ivory tower, and occassionally glance down at the peasants whose labor pays for their privilege. Stop hiding Jerry, come down from Olympus and talk to the mortals. And it needs to be you, not your little boy who is busy trying to help create a network that forces more food into an already fat pig that is the owners with that whole NFL network crap.

Procton...dont mind your comments at all. Your approach to responding though is called"bush league"...meaning your an amateur or "minor leagurer" in the way you express yourself. What I DO take exception to is name calling under any circumstances. For those of us that are well educated and well read and enjoy the blogs, all you prove is that you have a HUGE anger management problem that needs help and medication. BUT...keep 'em coming....perhaps you can deduct your time spent from your taxes as "therapy"...BUT that presumes you make something other than a 1040EZ living.
