Starting QB Moore has pros, cons
With starting quarterback Vinny Testaverde not practicing again Friday, the likelihood that undrafted rookie Matt Moore will get the call for Sunday’s home game with Seattle increases dramatically.
This could be good or bad; good, because Moore, who has already seen limited reserve duty in six games, will get to play with an 0-0 score. That means he won’t be thrown into must-pass situations, the kind where the defense pins its ears back and meets at the quarterback, as has been the case in most of his previous stints.
It could also be bad, because Moore is a first-year player who has never started an NFL game, and quarterbacks almost always need considerable seasoning before they become effective at the pro level.
Also, he’ll be going up against once of the best defenses in the league. If things start going the wrong way, a whole bunch of Seattle sacks aren’t out of the question.
Coach John Fox still hasn’t committed to Moore; he’s calling it a game-time decision and Vinny is listed as probable for Sunday on the injury report. But a lot has been asked of Testaverde this season, and it’s likely his Achilles’ problem is still an issue. With all that said, seeing Moore take the opening snap Sunday won’t be surprising at all.

Sweet. I've been looking for this for weeks. It really can't be any worse than what's been happening lately (with the exception of the 49ers). Let the kid fling it around.

I just hope the O Line can protect him. I would hate to see his confidence get shattered. I will be pulling 100% for him or whoever he QB is, even Carr, the Panthers are my team. Go Panthers!!!!!!!!!!!

notin to lose so why not. VInny seems not to be steady with health and all, so just ride Moore and hope for the best.

Janitor Dan,
Great point. Moore, Testaverde, does it matter? Team is better off losing rest of games to get Jake Long or making some trades to get Darren McFadden. The new coach next year will know how to use our players better.

Moore should get his shot...Vinny is done, Carr has shown nothing in his stints as starter, and the season is over. Moore can give me, I mean, the NEXT coach of the Panthers, some film to look at in his evaluation for next season.

Jerri Moore wins the record third straight title; then becomes the Panthers new head coach.

If they can't sign Jerry Moore, the Panthers need to sign Jerry Glanvile.

I am a Matt Moore fan. Watched him for two years at Oregon State. Give him a chance. He is a very smart and tough young guy. Once he mastered Mike Riley's offense which is very complex, he was an ace that had the "won't lose" mentality. He may not show it in the Seattle game, but give him a chance to grow. He is tough, you won't shake his confidence - the Oregon State fans were really hard on him the first year until he got things figured out.
For the guy advocating Jerry Glanville - he didn't so well at the college level this year. He and Mouse Davis need to rejoin June Jones.

really stan? i would be VERY surprised to see Moore starting this week, even if Vinny isn't 100 percent healthy. We both know starting Moore is the LAST thing John Fox wants to do, right or wrong.

Yeah, no point to name a starter, because that will confuse the Seattle defense, they won't know how to prepare for all the schemes and looks they will get from that wild, unpredictable Carolina offense that has run the same four plays since Dom Capers was coach.

haha, funny ron. I can't wait to be an assistant defensive backs coach for the Giants next year.

I will not bash Vinny, he should be retained after the season not as a player but a qb developmental coach. I can not however say that Delhome will be our savior when he returns either. Yes he was a good choice for a couple years. But that was a different Jake. He was emotional, fearless and let an emerging superstar reciever shine on the charlotte horizon. The Jake we have seen the past couple years is still emotional however that emotion is now driven by fear alot like his high priced backups Carr and weinke before him. Elsewhere there have been quarter backs that have shown potential but once those beaten up years have taken its psychological toll they always have the same end result. Jake is not the reason for our woes nor our returning savior it is time to accept that he had a good run and got his chance to leave his mark. Make a gracefull exit on his own using his injury as the excuse just as we all know morgan should have done. that is only fair since the orginization has ridden it for a miserable season all year. Let's remember him as the leader of the cardiac cats and not as houston remembers carr some unkown seasons in the future.

What are you TALKING ABOUT, Scott? Delhomme left this season in the top 3 of the NFL in passer rating, and STILL leads the team in TD passes.
