Why not start DeAngelo Williams?

Check out videos of Matt Moore's engineering of OSU's upset of USC, his performances against Hawaii (there) UofO, and victory in Sun Bowl--all show his vision, downfield passing and leadership.
Also Ron Jarowski's opinion prior to and during the draft. Certainly deserves a chance to be brought along.

So let's get this straight -- the well-known Foxy-Hurney bent toward "proven" players now extends to Basanez, who has proven exactly nothing -- except he was a Foxy-Hurney selection first, before the mad dash to Moore?
You've signed their death warrant.
You cannot play favorites in the NFL. It is a cold, brutal business based on performance. You've just told us that this front office would prefer to INSULATE a third-team (when healthy, if healthy) QB from competition rather than see if manifestly talented -- to what extent is 100% unknown -- prospect can perform.
Good heavens, that is insane.

First of all, starting DeAngelo COULD help solve the defensive problems. When they are on the field 39 minutes a game they are going to struggle. With D. on the field, they may be able to muster a few first downs and give the defense a rest.
Second, you said "There are reasons Matt Moore went undrafted" That is one of the biggest cliches journalist use. How about telling us those reasons he went undrafted. I know another qb who went undrafted, that would be Probowler Jake Delhomme. Here are some others: John Kitna, Tony Romo, Jeff Garcia. Where a qb was or was not drafted is almost irrelevant in determining if he can or cannot play in the NFL - consider Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith, Shaun King, JP Losman, Tim Couch - all of which were high draft choices.
I do agree that Fox must allow some of these reserves they drafted to get some real playing time. Johnson, Shaw, Kalil, and even Ryan Robinson at they wideout.

I have wanted DeAngelo to start for 2 years now. I believe Jarrett can be better than Colbert as early as Sunday.
I have been a John Fox supporter up until the last week. It is apparent that he is a stubborn ass that is not open for change. Change must come or this organization will be the worst team in the league next year.
If he is fired or resigns I pray to God that he takes Foster, Colbert, Morgan and all of the coaches and trainers with him. Someone and I don't know who or why but there is cancer on this organization.
No one can seem to find out who is at fault for anything. Does the new offensive coord. have total input, 50% input or NO input to the game plan.
I think we have defensive players sitting on the bench that would be starting with other teams.
Who is responsible for the decisions does Jerry or Mark get involved in game planning? Do the coordinators have any and if so how much say in things game related.
Does Fox tell the coordinators is plan and force them to use that game plan.
Fox, Hurney, Richardson have always been sure to say that the draft is a group decision. There is too much covering for each other.
I think we need to replace Mark and hire a real president who has real world experience in running a nfl team. We need to hire a President/General Manager who is a respected person. We need a head coach that is open to change, we need a creative mind to be in charge of the offensive. We need to teach people how to protect the ball.
I don't think Pepper is going to be like he used to be. Something has happened to him. We have Beason, Marshall, Harris. I really feel that we could take 63 players of practice squads around the league and win 5 games with a good coach.
Remember during the strike years, Joe Gibbs took a team of skabs and went undefeated and when the real players came back went and won the Superbowl. John Fox has this team playing worse than the skab team from years past.
I have now missed a game in 4 years, however it has become a chore for me to go to the stadium.

Basanez is one Carolina must keep around,Now they have 2, the other Moore,That should be key backs for Jake,And yes it is time to see,who stays and who goes,Really this team went south when Jake went down,No-One can say, This team wasnt gonna be any better with Jake,NOW,Fox knows what he has to do-or what he BETTER DO,If he want to keep his Job!

I do agree that D. Will should be starting right now. I personally have never been a fan of Foster's but figured the coaches must have seen something that I did not. Starting to look like my gut was right. I would love for our team to find a true power back to compliment D. Will.
I think that if we have anyone that should be in the Pro Bowl how bout Chris Harris? Hes a beast. Look at the 7 forced fumbles. If I am correct that is the most in Panthers history. I believe that to be correct. Beason is having a monster season as well, though I dont know if he will make the Pro Bowl.
As far as the QB's go. That is one position we can guess all day long on.

" It's not going to solve all the offensive problems, but why not start DeAngelo Williams and give him 15 to 20 carries a game for the last three weeks? DeShaun Foster's already shown he's not a true feature back. Maybe Williams can be and maybe he can't, but it would be nice to find out."................ No duh, sherlock, most of the common day Panther fans that post in the Forum have been saying this type of thing all year and your just coming around to it???? Seriously are you just that damn desperate for ideas that you have to go back to issue's we have already addressed and made a conclusion on? Someone fire this bum.Even MorganBeason or the Silly24Whore could do a better job, although she doesnt add any insite just paste articles she has read and sucks everyone else's cock on the forum.Pat are you the Silly24Whore?

Here are some names:
Reggie Bush
Laurence Maroney
Joseph Addai
LenDale White
Maurice Jones-Drew
Brian Calhoun
Jerious Norwood
Michael Robinson
Leon Washington
These are all RBs picked in the same draft as DeAngelo who, aside from Calhoun and maybe Robinson, have been utilized more than DeAngelo. And only the first two were picked BEFORE DeAngelo. Yes Pat, IT'S ABOUT TIME DEANGELO STARTS. I don't see why Fox consistently waits to put skill position rookies into games. If we were 8-5, there would be no need but he's always been stubborn and NEVER changes. It's time to move on and find a coach who is is creative and knows how to use his players. And I hate hearing "well if the D player better..." Just look at Buffalo and Cleveland! Winning with Derek Anderson and TWO QBS IN BUFFALO! (Oh yeah, and what is Buffalo doing? USING THEIR ROOKIE RB MARSHAWN, WHAT A FOREIGN CONCEPT!)
I've given Fox every chance but he plays to close to the vest every game, never willing to take a good chance (I'm not talking about pooch punting or trick punt returns, how about a PASS on 3rd-and-long?) This Panther team needs some energy bad. We need a Mike Tomlin, maybe Josh McDaniels? I don't know, but Fox's time has come and gone.

I would be carefull sticking D. Williams out there and running him between the tackles for 15 to 20 carries. He is small and quick and I am afraid would get injured. This presumes that Davidson would not alter his typical game plan to adapt to Williams strengths(good catching ability, good yards after catch).
I have yet to figure out why Nick Goings(I'm trying to forget his role as a kick returner too)was not utilized more over the past two years. He ran like a mad-man back in 04 when Smith,Foster and Davis were injured. After being relegated to special teams and two concussions(05 in Seattle and this year) later, Goings is no longer an option.
We need to draft a big powerfull HAMMER back in the next draft.

PRO-BOWL candidates! Is that what we're worried about now? Good grief, I could care less if any of this team goes to the Pro-Bowl. If thier over inflated egos need a boost try improving thier performance on the Panther's field.

If the team is going to start DeAngelo, how about throwing the ball to him? He is the change-of-pace back and the 3rd-down back, and he only has 20 catches all season?? He and Foster together only have 43 catches. Green Bay has shown for more than a decade that screen passes scare teams off from rushing Favre. Sometimes we do try throwing to them, but the ball is late, high, behind, too slow, etc.
Bryant Westbrook and Reggie Bush have 74 and 73 catches apiece.
Others include Kenny Watson (Cincy) 44 catches, Ernest Graham and Willis McGahee at 42, Adrian Peterson 41, Marion Barber 40 (and he splits time with Julius Jones) and Ronnie Brown and Clinton Portis 38.
True, Testeverde doesn't get sacked as often as David Carr, but that's because he rushes to get rid of the ball so he won't get hit and bruise his 50-year-old body. A game plan using the backs would sure help open the field for the TEs and WRs.
Perhaps related: Jeff King had 28 catches in the first 7 games. He's had 15 in 6 games since then. Why not get him involved again?
Brad Hoover had 8 catches in the first 8 games and none in the five games since.
Have you watched Tom Brady and Brett Favre spread the ball around??
Sure, Steve Smith should be involved heavily, but teams will double-cover him until you make them pay with a seam route by King or a 14-yard catch-and-run like Hoover had against T.B.
A great point one of the commentators said during a Pats game this year. Watch how many times Brady gets a throw straight over the middle. The receivers will cross, or Kevin Faulk sneaks through the line. Brady gets a clear view and an easy throw. Those throws pull the safeties up and allow the deep shots to Randy Moss.
Jeff Davidson would probably try more of this if Coach Fox would loosen the reins.
Some posters say we should get rid of all the coaches. I think Davidson has potential, and Fox should be worried more about his defense.

I'm not saying Foster is a great RB.But all these folks, including journalists, who think DeAngelo is head and shoulders better, should look at what percentage of his carries go for 1 yard or less. It's flat out ridiculous. There's no way your offense can stay on the field if the RB is stopped in the backfield twice as often as he gains positive yardage.

Offseason problem:
What to do with the backup qb spot? Do we keep both Brett and Matt and have no true backup with experience, or do we sign somebody who could move the chains but that would mean letting someone go.

changing qb's- changing rb's-- those are all band-aides...offensive line sucks, and has sucked for 3 years now.. cant open holes for anybody, or give the itchy footed qb's time to see if anyone is open..and how many passes have the wr's dropped...makes cutting Keyshawn look very smart...
Moore defenitely looks the best- eyes downfield, strong arm, sure a few have gotten away from him- but he looks for positive yards...and stays in the pocket like a man.

i've been trying to give benefit of the doubt to fox but after his comment this wk about not seeing the need to change and he'll finish the season w/ the same lineup was pretty annoying...and now i think it may b time to look elsewhere or let him know htat his job depends on next season and that's his last chance. we should b treating rest of the games like pre season games and like everyone is saying get the young players and others that dont get much pt involved.
i say sit down vinny...it's not like he's coming back next year. so why not give moore a change or even carr to see if we actually even want him around.
plus last sun. why was gamble playing w/ a caste when we have marshall who has played better than him(even when gamble was 100%) on the bench.
we def need a new rb b/c foster can't carry a team...specially not a team coached by fox who likes to play for ball control. if the coaches thing jarrett is not good enough than a new reciever as well. we need new cb too...gamble and lucas dont seem all that great to me. we also might need a new special teams coach. i'm not sure what the official title is but we need a new guy in charge for evaluating talent (draft, free agents, trades...)
plus fox needs to stop htese 3rd and long runs. it's annoying it seems like he already expects to lose so they're not even trying.
i hope morgan retires or we cut him.
sorry for all the scattered thoughts and hopefully it's not too incoherent.
this season is just so frustrating.

The panthers just suck. i watched this team and preseason with jake delhomme and i culdnt help but think wow, this team isnt gonna be any good. THe years of the playoffs was first when dan henning had the power back he wanted in stephen davis, once he retired henning was fired. Deshaun and Deangelo are the same back, the only difference being heigh and fumbling issues. They Qb situation cant be as faulted as it seems, now dont get me wrong all the qbs we have are suckin somethin awful, but its two Qbs in a new system that theyve never seen and probably have problems understanding. David carr was just scarred of playin and needs a hair cut. Vinny is just too old to make the plays necissary for a team to win. Matt Moore looks good, but is so unexperienced and has no one but smith to throw too, and smith is gettin tripled covered cuz teams now he is the panthers only threat. The defense is good, but with all our good linebackers on IR or other teams(will witherspoon), one good safety, and our best CB on the bench, all that added to the fact that the offense culdnt move the ball on me and you, is the reciepe for the mad array of points scored on them every week.
If people wanna blame fox thats fine, but hes not goin newhere unless bill cowher shows interest in returnin or the stink it up next year(which is a great possibility). THis team was never good from the start, so all you lookin for answers, they are nowhere in carolina. the team has to draft well and get some free agents if they ever wanna sniff the playoffs in the near future.

How in the hell does John Fox know if Jarrett is ready or not. Let's think for a minute if he is not starting he is practicing with the back up quarterback, does anyone know who the backup quarterback is, Mr. "It is what it is" Fox won't even tell us who the starter is.
So Jarrett practices with a different qb each week, keep in mind the backups aren't ready to play according to Fox. So what kind of practice is he getting.
We know what we have in Colbert and I don't understand why he still gets to be active.
Carter is becoming more dependable. I think Jarrett will become a valuable part of the offensive if he is given a chance (more than 2 plays a month).
Morgan is not able to play and even if he was how in the world do you take Beason out. If you want to see something exciting during our boring games, keep your eye only on Beason. It is amazing some of the things he does.
Fox is a stubborn jack ass who thinks there is no need to change anything.
I think if he really believes that then he needs to be admitted to a mental hospital.
Good Bye Fox and take Morgan, Colbert, and Foster with you to NY or anywhere you want to go.
Let's see you go to NY and get in front of some reporters that will not be afraid to ask some tough questions. That "It Is What It Is" will not last 5 years there.
Why did that pitiful excuse for a announcer Mickie Nixon get hired. It looks like a total idiot on the Panther Huddle. He asks such cream puff question on the call in show that it makes me sick.

Fox needs to make some changes. Not saying Deangelo is the answer but the old way is not working. Foster needs to go after this season he has had too many chances and not stepped up.

Q: Eli has taken his lumps this week – maybe more than he ever has in his career so far. What is your response to the criticism he gets? Do you ever talk to him about that?
A: I had a discussion with him yesterday. He is very resilient. He is very focused on his job. He never bats an eye about saying what his responsibilities are, or whether he performed well or not. He always takes his responsibility for that. He is an elected captain on the team. He is fully aware of that responsibility, as well. If I sensed that there was a need, I would perhaps talk to him about that. But I don’t think that. It is a game. We know the environment that we are in here and obviously you would like it to be different, but it is not. So the only way that we know to do anything about it is the next game. And that is basically the approach we have taken all along. There is no need to have any extensive eloquent conversations about it. IT IS WHAT IT IS. AND WE NEED TO MOVE ON.

RE: Eli: You’re not giving any consideration to letting him sit?
A: I don’t think that’s the answer. I think you have to compete and look at the defenses we’ve played at over the last few weeks and that’s just part of the deal. That’s part of it, too. I can’t make it any easier for you. IT IS WHAT IT IS. You are playing against the best in football, without a doubt, and it’s week in and week out, and of course it doesn’t get any easier this week. I don’t know that that’s the answer; I will say that we have got to take better care of the football. I’m going to sit here and stand for that now. That’s not even giving us a chance to win when we turn it over like that.
Good call, jackass.

Kind words for Coughlin
New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin, who barely kept his job after last season, has solidified it this season. Co-owner Steve Tisch gave him a ringing endorsement last week and even hinted at a contract extension for Coughlin.
"A year ago, the issue of change was really on everybody's mind," Tisch told Newsday. "A year later, right now, it's more an issue of continuity. ... We're aware of our record and of Tom's accomplishments leading this team. That's all we need to see."
