« Morgan should make wise, healthy decision | Main | Wahle's philosophical about being released »

No regrets, rancor for Morgan
Linebacker Dan Morgan said that he has no regrets, and no bitterness toward the Carolina Panthers for releasing him today.
"I’ve never been one to look back and regret things," he said by phone this evening. "You can’t worry about things you can’t control. If you did, you wouldn’t be able to keep your sanity. And if I let that stuff get to me, I’d have been out of football a long time ago."
Morgan’s injury problems are well-documented; I won’t get into them here. Maybe because of past concussions, he should not play again. But Morgan, who is nearing the end of rehabbing a torn Achilles tendon, still has the football itch and is determined to scratch it. And that’s his decision.
He has no idea where he will play.
"To be 100 percent honest, (agent) Drew (Rosenhaus) hasn’t talked to one team yet. I don’t know where I’ll end up or if anybody will offer me a contract. But I felt like last year before the injury, those first couple games I was hitting people and feeling good, with no problems. I still feel that way."
Wherever he lands, Morgan will remember Carolina fondly.
"I’ve had a lot of bad luck, but I’ve also made some great friends here," he said. "Carolina has a lot of class. This (release) was not really a shock because of (the injury) last year."
There will be more on this and on the release of guard Mike Wahle in tomorrow’s Observer.

Thanks for all the years Morgan.
I have always thought that Morgan was a great MLB when healthy. But I think that Panthers did the right think in finally parting ways with him.
What the chances that we could hire Morgan on as a linebackers coach?

None at all....everything he says isn't true about not being mad etc. We all know he's more than likely upset about the fact that he probably won't get any offers because every team knows his list of injuries...and they don't want to spend money on a million dollar concussion case. Don't get me wrong..when he was healthy he was awesome, but he just can't stay that way and it's to a point now where we are wasting money. So...it's about time.

Next on the list should be Deshaun Foster. I'm not saying he's bad, but clearly it's time to move on. He has never materialized into what they expected and maybe it's not all his fault, but regardless it's time to find someone to come in whether it's Deangelo or someone else. Our offense is predicated on having a strong running game and that is something we have lacked since Stephen Davis left. We need someone combined with Deangelo who is going to get us 2,000+ yds a year out of our running game. If we get that, we will win at least 10 games and do well in the playoffs. Without it, more 8-8 and 7-9 seasons.
After Foster, cut David Carr..preferably immediately with a parade.

The following is true,
Reporter: So Dan, how does it feel to get cut?
Dan: Where? Do I need a Band-Aid?

Dan gave us some great years, but injuries really limited what he could've been. Thanks for a great run. David Carr, Keary Colbert, DeShaun Foster...you're next.

We need some help. Get rid of the panzies.

Darin Gantt says Morgan will get signed elsewhere, but I'm still holding out hope we can resign him to a contract with similar terms as this year (minimum+incentives.) Knowing Rosenhaus, though, that's probably unlikely unless there really is NOTHING else availible.
(On another note: For all my fans (*enemies?), I got invited to make a guest appearance on the CarolinaSportsNet talk show tonight (Tuesday.) The show will air from 9:00 PM to 10-ish, and I'll be on around 9:10 or so. The website is http://www.blogtalkradio.com/carolinasportsnetradio and the phone-in number if you want to talk about any local sports (or just rip me) is: 646-915-9669. Invite your friends, neighbors, relatives, etc. Here's the blurb for this week's planned show:
Interview with Michael Procton, local area well known poster. We continue with the post NFL season hangover. More coverage of acc basketball, north carolina duke wrap up, bobcats coverage plus more hilarity from the cast of characters.)

JPanther, I agree Carr and Foster should be next on the chopping block.
Colbert is an unrestricted FA, so he's leaving anyway ...
I'm not liking these Kris Jenkins rumors. Of the starters on the D-Line, he was clearly the best this season. If the front office knew what they were doing, they would cut their losses with Kemo and start Lewis and Jenkins with Jenkins playing in Kemo's spot in the line as the space-eating DT ...

I think we all knew this was coming. Kinda surprised by Wahle being cut but the guy never played up to the pay he was getting. I don't think anyone will touch Morgan, if they do he won't be a starter. Maybe the Bengals or another team who is hard up for LB help but I don't see him being able to garner anything above the league minimum for Vets. So I guess this means they're planning on starting Hangartner now? Wonder if they'll take a shot at Adams or Faneca?

well, i'm going to leave the bar at halftime of the uva-unc game to get home in time to hear Michael Procton. Theres nothing I'd rather do than sit in my car/ crowd around my clock radio to hear MP tell everyone how he knows more about sports than anyone else. sweetass time.

Good riddance to this fragile piece of garbage. What did we get, 5-6 games out of this guy for 6 years of pay? What a joke, if Morgan had any conscious he'd be too ashamed to even cash his paychecks.

Yeah...how DARE he restructure his contract to get paid the minimum!!!

The memory I will always have of Dan is those 25 tackles IN THE SUPERBOWL against the Gods (sarcasm) of New England in 03. That was one of the most inspirational games I have ever seen from a guy who wanted more than any one person on the field. The only game where John Kasay looked mortal and Dan Morgan looked superhuman. Thanks for the great years Dan may your class and hardwork benefit you in years to come.

I like the idea of having Morgan as a LB Coach. He gave us what we could physically maybe he can still contribute on the sideline. Beason and Davis both would love to be able to come to the sideline and bounce information of Dan. Those guys already communicate well each other and they have the utmost respect for the guy. It could be like the influence Sam Mills had on a young Dan Morgan. Lets keep the tradition alive. And when Beason is done draft another stud from the U and let Beason pass on the tradition.
Go Panthers!
