Panthers expect to reach deal with Lewis
He becomes the first prospective free agent to agree to re-sign with Carolina. They're also trying to strike deals with others, including offensive tackle Jordan Gross.
Lewis was a valuable reserve for the Panthers last season, and started twice. He tied for the team lead in sacks with 3 1/2.

This move is a no brainer. There aren't many backup DT's better than Lewis, although he could end up a starteer if Jenkins is shipped out

Thanks for the update, Chuck. This is what I like to see from a newspaper- news. Hopefully you can resist the temptation to speculate and editorialize more than your predecessor could.

D Lew! I always thought he was a good DT. Great to have him back!

Jon- do you realize this is a blog where the writers are supposed to speculate and editorialize?

d"o you realize this is a blog where the writers are supposed to speculate and editorialize?"
But they are not supposed to spread rumors, even in a blog, as his predecessor did.

Great re-sign by the Panthers considering Lewis was a leader in sacks...now they need to re-sign Gross.

I'm glad we resigned Lewis. I think he should be starting with Jenkins and Kemo should be let go. Unfortunatly he will probably be starting with Kemo and Jenkins will be let go.
But I would like to see Lewis starting!

Hopefully the Panthers think different and keep KJ and let Kemo go.

I agree. They really should let Kemo go. I believe his contract would free up more money than Morgan's and Foster's.

Stick to blogs and not articles Chandler. I threw up in my mouth Friday when I read about how you and the Panthers think David Carr has 'natural talent'.
Cheers from London, go Panthers.

I like Lewis. Why is there never any talk of trading Kemoeatu? Is he really that bad that they would get nothing for him? I would rather see him go away than Jenkins.
Also, what you can't see from this pathetic attempt at delivering news is the deal is for 3 years, and that he led the team in sacks as a reserve this year. I find it hilarious that a guy from Gastonia consistently delivers better stuff than all the jerkys working for the Observer.

Good re-sign....now we jut wait to see if Jenkins will be back (I hope so). If he's still here by next season, lineup should be Peppers, Jenkins, Lewis, Rucker. Now all the Panthers need to do is release Morgan and Carr...and Foster. If they don't release Foster they could atleast make him backup. Williams is so much better.

Rucker? Are you serious? He's a nice guy and all and he's been a good player for us but if we have Rucker starting at the other DE we are toast. The guy needs to retire. I hate being an armchair QB but from someone who has played at a high level, he can't bring it anymore. The brain wants to but the body isn't willing...it's time to hang 'em up.

This thing on Foster,(IF)they use him the right way,They can get something out of him,BUT,He cost Way Too much for what he gives the team,He's not worth it,It's less problems and less money just to let him go!Who would you want? The Rookie (Bradshaw)with the Giants or Foster? Time to go find a new RB,They'er out there.

Great re-sign this point to Kemo going out the door he not worth 4 or 5 mill per year he is earning & D.Lewis should have been starting over him from the jump.
@JT
M.Rucker days as a start is over but if they can bring him in as a number 2 thats a no-brainer he plays the run better than any D-linemen we have he can't rush the passer anymore. Plus coming of his second year with his acl tear he should be at full speed like most player are when they come back after the 2nd year from a acl tear.

JP: The reason there is no talk of trading Kemo is that no one wants Kemo under his present contract. A large DT that does not get moved backward (so that your MLB get a clean shot at the carrier) but does not drive the O-line back either is a great thing for 1-2 million. The problem is that we are paying him 4-5 million and no one else what that against the cap for what he provides.
And please everyone stop yell "get rid of INSERT NAME". I agree guys like Foster and Kemo underperforms, but the way the cap rules and the contracts are set up you can not just get rid of people.
Of course, cut players only cost against the cap the year they are cut and not the next one (as they would if they still are under the contract). So we could just cut the entire dead wait, not sign and hardly resign anybody and have lots of money to shop for next year. Of course we are looking at something like 2-14 for the coming season. You guys still think it is a good idea? Didn’t think so.

I say Rucker because if he doesnt retire then we all know he will be the starter. Personally Id like to see McClover on the right end but until Rucker is gone then....he's going to be the starter.

BTW...your highschool playing ability doesn't help anything...QB is a longggg way from DE my friend...you should know as much as me that if Rucker decides to stay he'll start...so why complain...
