Panthers awarded extra picks

The Carolina Panthers were awarded two seventh-round picks in the April 26-27 NFL draft as compensation for losing Chris Draft and Vinny Ciurciu via free agency last year, the league announced today.

The Panthers received the 34th and 43rd picks in the last round, the 241st and 250th overall selections.

Draft signed with St. Louis after the 2006 season. Ciurciu signed with Minnesota.

The Panthers now have 10 overall picks in the seven-round draft, including two in the third round and three in the seventh.

The NFL awarded 32 compensatory picks to 15 teams. Under the collective bargaining agreement, a team losing more or better free agents than it acquires in a given year is eligible for compensatory picks.

To be sure the Panthers can use these extra pics to move up in the later rounds. Not many 7th round picks make the roster to begin with, although there are exceptions (anyone remember Lester Towns).

hey Matt Moore was undrafted & so was Hoover w tried to get Matt as a Undrafted FA but Dallas beat us to him with 2 extra picks in the 7th rd we could have had him throught TC & preseason he might have been ready to start sooner

Compensatory picks are unable to be traded or moved, so we are stuck with the 241st and 250th picks in the draft. Although now we could potentially move our original 7th round pick and not worry about missing out on those studs in the 7th round.

Another good sign that this draft is going to be huge. This is a great spot to grab guys that can impact special teams right away, and maybe even crack a 2nd stringer...All i know is that Hurney better be a magic man or he's gona go poof.

A smart man would trade these extra picks for PacMan Jones

Check that, trade anything after a 6th for PacMan, since the compensatory can't be traded

hahahahaha pacman. thats what we need.

Actually, the Panthers do NEED a shutdown corner who would significantly and instantly upgrade all aspects of their return game. But Richardson is way too old fashioned and won't take any risks in trying to provide Panther fans with what they want and crave, consecutive winning seasons and ultimately, the Lombardi trophy.

anyone remember LB Lester Towns, in my opinion he's a very good LB but unfortunately he was played for the Panthers in bad seasons with Georg Sieffert

Settle the F down Tony, I'll kick you in the cods.
Why not give up a 6th round pick and get Pacman in here? Not only would he be a shut down corner that would make Gamble go away, he's an excellent kick returner too. Bye bye Ryan Robinson and your 15 yard kickoff return fumbles.
Bring in Pac Man if you have any balls at all Jerry. Give us a winning team again!

Any chance I could come play defensive tackle for you guys?

What do these players all have in common:

John Randle
Warren Moon
Kurt Warner
Adam Vinatieri
Priest Holmes
Rod Smith
Antonio Gates

They were all undrafted free agents.

Dont tell me you cant find talent that late in the draft - its all about homework.

Pacman is not a Panther! He does not have the character or intelligence. I would be very disappointed if we went after him. Only a team with NO class would sign him!

Let's trade all of our 7th round draft picks this year and for the next 5 years and get Pac Man. Quality picks for a quality guy.

I agree with james327. If we do our homework we might get lucky. I would draft on speed - you just never know >

hahaaha, that very funny Tony, you funny man. I seriously believe would trade even as much as a 3rd round pick for the Pac Man. He was a 1 pick right? So that is a fair trade. Pac Man would be a great defense back for the Panthers. Get the Pac Man!!!!

Ryne Robinson started playing better the last couple games of the season. Besides, he was a rookie, I think he's still got a lot of potential. If we were to pay Pacman all that money to come play here, I sure as hell wouldn't risk an injury throwing him into a punt or kickoff return. Same as Steve Smith, they're just too valuable at there natural position.

no no no do not get pac man in here for one, he has already said he doesnt want to play for any other team but the cowboys. Two trouble in the locker room. Take our 7th round picks and trade for a proven vet along with our sixth round.CAN someone say Tommy Harris DT for the bears?
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: paul | Mar 31, 2008 7:36:11 PM

Yeah...actually it's Tommie Harris...He was a first round pick. What is your point?

Posted by: rhackney | Mar 31, 2008 8:21:20 PM

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: rhackney | Mar 31, 2008 8:21:49 PM

I don't know who started this pac-man crap, but it needs to end here. Jerry Jones has absolutely no character, so leave it to him to sign a player like that. I don't want him on my team.

Posted by: JDK | Mar 31, 2008 8:25:57 PM

acually get pac man in here i change my mind...news just in cowboys dont want him becuz there not willing to give the titans the 4th round draft pick and cowboys said they cant do that so? If pac man can me mr. nice guy I say ....GET Pac Man in here!

Posted by: paul | Mar 31, 2008 8:51:32 PM

JDK, you are just wrong, wrong, wrong about this. Jerry Jones may not have much character, but Mr. Bojangles Jerry Richardson has no ball sac!!!
And since when is this "your team"? When did you buy in? Come on, what's with you man!!

Pacman Jones for the Panthers would be so good. He would immediately be the best d-back in the division now that deangelo hall is gone.
