Panthers reach deal with Hackett
D.J. Hackett is coming to Carolina.
The Panthers agreed to terms Monday with Seattle’s free-agent receiver on a two-year, $3.5 million contract. Hackett improves the Panthers’ depth at the receiver position opposite Steve Smith. He is expected to compete with Muhsin Muhammad and Dwayne Jarrett for a starting spot.
"D.J. is extremely excited," said Hackett's agent, Kevin Robinson. "He was impressed with Marty Hurney, coach (John) Fox and really liked the entire Carolina organization."

Delhomme is going to have a field day!

Brilliant...yes, the injuries are a concern, but if the guy can stay healthy, he can definitely produce at a level higher than $1.75 mil's worth a year.

Hey Nick where you at now with you big comments about Hackett?!?!?!?
Just what I thought......

big catch, now the panthers are better at WR than last year. Also means the Panthers should be able to remove WR off the draft board.

Great pickup..still might be a good idea to pick up a rookie on the second day of the draft.

I was one of the ones who didn't think the panthers would sign Hackett, especially for 2yrs and 3.5M. Let me just say I'm glad I was wrong, and GO PANTHERS!

Fantastic! Hopefully this guy will really help our receiving corps and stay healthy...good signing!

This can be nothing but a plus!

Great news, we are definitely set a WR now, no doubt!

I'm a Seahawks fan, but I thought I would come in to say that you've just signed yourself a tremendous receiver. Although he's had a few injuries recently the guy can play and is not afraid of contact.
I'm sorry to he him leave my team, but y'all treated me so good last season when I flew to Charlotte to see the Panthers beat the h*ll out of my Hawks that I decided to chime in and say I'll be pulling for Hackett to help transform that team into a contender again.
Good luck.

AWESOME! the Offence is set for the season now lets get a safety!!!

Just want to give kudos where kudos are due...Charles, you need to know you are definitely an upgrade over PY and so far, two for two over the Gaston Gazette: first they reported that Hartwig's cut was a cap move, turns out they were wrong. Yesterday, they reported that DJ left town without a contract offer and turns out they were wrong about that too!

Sweet...it is good when a player is happy not with just the team but the surroundings...now just surround us with a Super Bowl title Panthers.....!!!!

Nice move. Draft time so lets get an OT, S & DE and we'll be set. We don't need any more receivers...they'll probably cut Taylor now actually. According to an earlier post by Stan, Jake is doing well and is right on schedule too...thanks for the update on that Stan. Can't you guys see this thing coming together now? Big Daddy, Pep isn't going anywhere. He was invited out there by his good friend Carmello Anthony to see him play...he's a basketball nut and a millionaire so these guys travel all over to see their favorite athletes play. Who in the hell would want to go play for Denver anyway...I have no faith in a team that signs Keary Colbert to a multi-year, multi-million dollar deal. Man, I am frickin jacked UP about Hackett. Can you guys see it? Him and Smitty stretching down the field? That draw on 3rd and long might actually work now.

Thanks Brad. Man, who cant be excited to be a panthers fan today? With WR set, just need to add an OT in first round (then i think our offense would be set RB i dont think is a huge concern at the moment), maybe a FS in the second (if their not moving a corner back there), and hey who knows, can i dare say super bowl run? LETS GO PANTHERS!!!!

When it rains it pours, but I think the forecast for the 2008 season is getting brighter by the minute! Great signing, but the Panthers dont need to stop here. We need to get a FS or go ahead and make the move putting Ken Lucas back there. Great job signing Hackett! He instantly betters our offense. Lets just pray he doesnt have DANMORGANitis and he stays healthy.

We are set at reciever. We have Smith, Muhammad, Jarrett, Taylor (who may get traded or release), Hackett, Robinson, Carter (who they seem to like), and Davis. We can use a RB, TE, FS, DT, DE.

I'm surprised that no one had noticed that
Hackett can even keep his #18 jersey, which
had been rented to Drew Carter. Now, if the
powers to be like Clady, I don't see any reason for not trading up to get him. What
should still concern most Panther faithful
will be filling in a DT & DE, if they do go after an OT in Round #1. Safety doesn't hold
the same priority here. The draft is well
suited to DE & RB this year. DT is apparently, a weak link. Rod Coleman & Chuck
Darby, apparently still have knee problems
that have to be addressed.

We need to focus on Defense. We are looking pretty soft there with the exception of cornerback and LB.

Hackett is good move. Peppers is overated so let's trade him and we can use that money to make the D-Line work.
