« LB looks like draft's weak spot | Main | Clady In Place »

Oops!

Just a note to apologize for a mistake in the Mock Draft in this morning's paper. I unintentionally left the 10th-ranked player in our Top 100, Boise State tackle Ryan Clady, out of the first round. Aargh!  Based on the early picks in the mock, I would have had him going to Denver at No. 12 and Vanderbilt's Chris Williams falling somewhere between the 15th and 20th picks. Not exactly sure how this happened. Just not careful enough in review, I guess. As most of you know, Clady is an excellent player and could well be a Panther if he gets past Denver at No. 12. Happy Sunday everyone.

Probaly happened because you have Williams getting selected twice (12 & 20) He's good, but not that good.

The more I read about Jeff Otah the more I think he should be our pick. Dave Wannstedt, his college coach and former NFL head coach (Bears and Dolphins)said "he is the best blocker he has ever coached." Plus he has been playing true left tackle.

I ways thinking the same way when I did not see his name in your mock draft. I still think the pick is Mendenhall over Stewart but they are both still great.

You are a joke of a sports writer.

You smoke to much weed.I am telling.

Maybe that's how the we picked Tim Biakabatuka before Eddie George. We just plain forgot George existed.

Perhaps Keith Ledger made you do it?

Seriously, does anyone copy edit the Observer? It has as more mistakes than facts.

This is what happens when you make Chuck Chandler or Olson work on the weekend. Pathetic.
Good question though Cop E., does anyone edit this crap? Now would be a good time for that phantom editor guy that pops in here every now and then to post an explanation. Do Chuck and Stan do this as volunteer work or do they get paid?

I dont see how you have us picking RB Stewart oregon, I mean he's good but isnt Mendenhall better? But personally i think were gunna get Derrick harvey DE Florida.

1. Derrick Harvey DE
2. Sam Baker OT
3. Trevor Laws DT
3. Matt Forte RB

If this happens you know the panthers drafted very well!

If this draft class is so deep with OL and RB, I feel like we should draft a higher rated position that is not as deep, such as DL. It sounds like Harvey is gonna be our pick. I wouldn't be displeased with Mendenhall or Stewart either..they will both have great careers.

Mendenhall sucks. He's a running back from the big ten. Anyone want to buy some of Tim's jewelry?

We agree wholeheartedly...there's never been a good NFL back from the Big Ten, ever.

whereareyouEditor and Cop. E. Editor,

grow up, get a life and get over it. The man made a mistake, admitted it, and corrected. move on and talk about the draft not the man admitting he made a mistake and then corrected it.

On a note about the draft, I hope that we take Stewart, he would be great as a compliment for Williams and give us a great backfield. However, I would not be disappointed if we took a good OL. Can't wait to see what happens!

Stewart and his injury are too risky to pick him up at #13. Dumb idea. A 1st-round pick needs to be a contributor from Day One.

Shut up Procton.

Thanks a lot for leaving me out of the mock draft. From what I can tell though, no one in your city listens to you so hopefully neither will the Panthers. You better hope I don't get drafted there, because I'll never grant you an interview. Suck it.

OJ, you continue to overwhelm me with your irreplaceable contributions.

Posted by: Michael Procton | Apr 21, 2008 10:38:09 AM

Mendenhall has a rep as a fumbler, nuff said.We dont need another foster.
I like pauls mock draft and it is possible.but i would change a few things.
1.stewart
2.sam baker
3.trevor laws and dre moore (use that extra jets 3rd pick)

Posted by: ray | Apr 21, 2008 10:39:51 AM

stewart had turf toe. it's not serious. he's the pick

Posted by: Wes | Apr 21, 2008 12:02:35 PM

Turf toe is a lingering injury that ALWAYS sticks with a guy. Anything that keeps a guy off the field for up to six months certainly is "serious."

Posted by: Michael Procton | Apr 21, 2008 12:30:01 PM

I agree we need to bolster the RB position but if we have more pressing needs at DE and OL, which we do, then start with the position that is the thinnest in the draft (DE) and then use 2nd rd pick on an OT. Besides what good is a stud RB if we dont have blocking for him?
No matter what I hope Fox and Hurney dont continue the trend of not addressing a need position by selecting the "best available" player at the time they pick. That would really be a disaster this year.

Posted by: Ben | Apr 21, 2008 12:47:10 PM

My toe is fine. I have testicles so I will be OK. Procton, check and see if you have any. Select me if Clady isn't around...

Somebody PLEASE save me from going to the Dolphins!!
