Beason pulling for Morgan, fellow Miami U linebackers

Penn State might be known as Linebacker U, but Miami has also had its share of stars at that position. And the Carolina Panthers' Jon Beason is taking advantage of the part he's played in that Hurricanes lineage.
Beason, the Panthers' second-year middle linebacker and one of the NFL's rising stars at that position, said Tuesday he stays in touch and talks football with other former Miami linebackers, most notably Ray Lewis and former Panther Dan Morgan.
Beason said he'd love to see Morgan, who retired this year after a career plagued by concussions, return.
"He is so far beyond, so much better than everybody else with speed, knowledge, being athletic -- he could take three years off and still be better than anybody else," Beason said.
Beason said he spoke with Morgan on Monday and was planning on talking to him again Tuesday afternoon. "He's doing great," said Beason. "He wants to know what's going on. That's understandable. If he's injured or healthy, he'd want to be with us here right now."
The Panthers practice once today, at 3:10 p.m. We'll have more updates after that.

No, you're not blind, the folks at the Observer are just too dumb to know how to do formatting in word processors.

Beason has always thought a lot of Morgan. I'm willing to bet Morgan is a very good mentor for young linebackers too. Maybe the Panthers could find a coaching position for him someday.

Thanks for fixing it, much easier to read this way.

Your headline is incorrect. The University of Miami Hurricanes (Florida) is to whom you are referring. Miami University (Ohio) is also home to some good linebackers.

Someone shake Chandler's hand for that, someone was finally able to shut some folks up. Let's keep it to Panthers stuff guys.

I'm excited about Beason being back and a year better, and with TD switching to Will position, he can blow up some plays I bet. And then let Diggs and Johnson scrap for the Sam spot. I know everyone gripes about our D-Line, I for one think Pep will be back to form, D-Lew isn't so shoddy, and there's open competition for LDE, so may the best available man win. I did see Fox said Hilee Taylor may be a 3rd down DE with his speed, so I'm glad to see us mixing it up, FINALLY.

I'm not usually a proponent of players coming back to coach, but Morgan would be a prime candidate to be a LB coach now with long term plans as a HC. Jack Del Rio part II.

Yeah Procton not everyone is as smart as your are you lipstick wearing crybaby!!!

John, the thought crossed my mind too, but...

He signed with the Saints!! Is his loyalty to the Panthers 100% intact?? Also, even if it were, he comes off as the qiet type. I'm not sure that's the right kind of person to lead and motivate these NFL players. I mean, wasn't Seifert being bashed (not by me) for being the silent type?? I'm not saying it's impossible, but just not likely.

Besides, if you want to bring in a former Panther LB in to coach the unit, why not Kevin Greene?!? After all, the guy should be a Hall of Famer and already has coaching experience!
