Don't miss Panthers personality Q&As

Don't miss the Panthers personality Q&As we'll use to bridge the dead time between Summer School and training camp opening in late July, when there is no access to players or team activity.

The first was published Wednesday, a Q&A with Jake Delhomme. Enjoy.

Ken Lucas Q&A from Thursday's paper.

Tim Shaw Q&A from Friday's paper.

why not let the fans and readers ask the questions? Have a blog where you take suggestions for questions to ask the players?

Posted by: matt | Jul 9, 2008 9:29:03 AM

These had to be done on paper, not individual interviews. We came up with standard questions, gave them to players, and got them back in written form.

We have discussed the possibility of trying to do fan questions for players. We'll entertain that possibility when camp opens.

Q: What's your favorite vacation spot?

A: “My favorite is Destin, Florida.”

How much did cover-boy get paid for that one?

Posted by: SYRPIS | Jul 9, 2008 1:28:51 PM

And Mr. Pessinger...

about the fan Q & A, you have to have sime type of broadcast delay, just in case fans like me come along.

Posted by: SYRPIS | Jul 9, 2008 1:30:23 PM

I think the format would be where Stan comes on and says that he will be interviewing "player X" and then we, the fans, would tell stan the questions that we wont answered, just to prevent any future interviews where the following exchange never takes place again.

Q: What's your favorite vacation spot?

A: “My favorite is Destin, Florida.”

I would certainly hope that there would be no broadcast involved.

Is the guy not allowed to like going to Destin? Why do you care?

Posted by: Michael Procton | Jul 9, 2008 2:10:59 PM

exactly, no one cares, at if he is going to ask that question and Jake gives that answer, at least elaborate on it to make is somewhat of a story, but again, no one cares, and that is the problem

Posted by: Matt | Jul 9, 2008 2:20:06 PM

So don't read it. It's not so hard. Find better coverage that suits you elsewhere. Your bitching is unproductive and obnoxious.

Posted by: Michael Procton | Jul 9, 2008 3:50:23 PM

You say dont read is as if I know what the content will be. The man said they had a Q&A with Jake and that is of intrest to me, however I expected the interview interesting, which it wasnt, and I see no reason why me or anyone else can come on here and criticize the content, if you can criticize other peoples opinions for , oh, the past however long this blog has existed, then you have no backing to tell someone else they cant be critical. My 'bitching' should be viewed as contructive criticism, especially when I'm not the only one who is disappointed with the article, the paper and its staff should take into account the concerns of its readers, and since you are obsessed with defending and pandering to the Stan, Charles, etc... you'd better understand that as well, dont brush off the criticism of your customers. I do find other coverage, I read all of the papers which cover this team, and usually this site is good at what it does, but when a bs, childess Q&A comes along I will voice my opinion on it, and thats where you should heed your advice and just dont read my response.

From what I seen in a large argument on one of the Favre threads...you complained about personal attacks Procton when you just made yet another yourself towards matt, when he really did nothing wrong.

I also was expecting this to be much better...not about his horse passion which is all we ever get out of a Delhomme interview. I would atleast like questions about the team..Jakes condition....you know..how his arm feels...his season prediction etc.

Posted by: dfm | Jul 9, 2008 4:24:33 PM

matt, if you want to complain, send an email to the writers. I don't want to read about your whining about the inferior quality of a quickie "personality Q&A."

dfm, it wasn't a personal attack. It was a factual statement, one that wasn't about his character at all. Was his comment productive, at all? Do you think it will lead to sweeping changes in the way the Observer covers the team? No. So what was the point? As for interviews with Jake, there have been many done since he started rehabbing and throwing about his elbow and his hopes for the season. It was a creampuff "personality Q&A." You might or might not know this, but many public organizations use these kinds of interviews to give fans--new and old--an opportunity to get to know its members better off the field. What do you want, a daily update on the flexibly and strength in his elbow?

Posted by: Michael Procton | Jul 9, 2008 4:32:29 PM

Mike, if a personality Q&A is of inferior quality, I will comment on it on the blog entry which is devoted to that Q&A....If I were criticizing it on the entry about Favre, you would definately have a gripe, and until someone who is somebody tells me I need to send an email instead of posting on the blog, I will do that, but when the biggest jackass on the board tells me to do it, then dont expect it to happen. Again, if you dont want to read my comment which is relative to the blog entry, then do not read it and certainly dont offer your opinion on it

Posted by: matt | Jul 9, 2008 4:38:45 PM

I was curious to see if anyone had some form of daily update on the flexibility and strength of Jake's elbow.

Posted by: LeeL | Jul 9, 2008 4:42:46 PM

Actually Procton yes thats what I would like to see...or something about the TEAM. Lets face it..we all already know about what Delhomme likes...there have been interviews about that.

I would just much rather see things about how he is progressing or like i said...something about the team...thats all

Posted by: dfm | Jul 9, 2008 4:46:52 PM

Mr. Persinger, really would be interesting to read some of the questions Panther fans could come up with. They whine and moan when we get no Panther news, yet they criticize every article that does not live up to their expectations.

Some of us Panther fans appreiate any and all tidbits we do receive. Any news is better than no news. I get the vast majority of my Panther news right here at the "O". Keep up the good work guys!

I would like to toss out a question to Jake. "What do you do to handle all the negativity, and lack of respect, thrown at you by the same fans with whom you would excpect to support you?" It is so disheartening to hear and/or read so called fans using every little mistake to belittle Jakes ability.

People have no idea how lucky we are to have a quality QB leading our team. I grew up in Michigan, and as a Lions fan, we have not had a quality QB since Bobby Lane. Which shows in the Lions winning percentage.

Give Jake his due, and as always, GO CATS!

My only thought is ,why not Foreshadow the Q&A segment?Ya Know, instead of just posting the blog about it after you have posted the first Q&A?

Could have built a little hype, but even with the Q&A it still wont please everyone,However,I will enjoy it.

Right On, G.O.S.

P.S. Procton you still suck

Posted by: Ghost of Sparta | Jul 9, 2008 7:38:10 PM

iamhubby ....its nice that they actually post something that doesnt have to do with Favre for once, but it still would have been nice to hear something productive atleast..something we DON"T know. This would have been nice as well if the questions really werent so repetitive. I have nothing against these little interviews...but lets atleast find someone who we dont really talk to much for THIS type thing as far as vacation spots...hobbies..etc goes.

good comment dustin

The MP is at it again!!

MP... guess what... everyone has a point. And I love a good debate, but to sit there and single people out and make them feel like idiots because they have an opinion they way you do....?!? I know the U.S. is becoming a police state, but can you lay off a bit??

I mean, I feel like a real a**hole now watching you do your thing, and knowing that I've been guilty of the same thing. I can only hope I haven't been as bad as you.

Posted by: SYRPIS | Jul 9, 2008 8:42:02 PM

iamhubby....
WOW!! Well said! That just adds to my earlier comment. Wow. This self-reflection time is better than therapy. LMAO! But seriously, I guess I should lay off of Mr. Bojangles cover-boy a bit. HMMMMMM... I still think Favre would fill some seats, win or lose.

Posted by: SYRPIS | Jul 9, 2008 8:45:48 PM

Procton is a lazy troll who is just looking to stir things up for his own jolly,s. His personal attacks on Matt show how insecure he really is and now you know why he could not cut it at UNC

Posted by: jw | Jul 9, 2008 8:48:22 PM

Procton can bring it all day long on here if he wants to.....but as I said before, he has no business telling people they shouldnt be critical when he is the most critical person on this entire website.

Posted by: matt | Jul 9, 2008 9:16:38 PM

Another funny thing Procton said, " You might or might not know this, but many public organizations use these kinds of interviews to give fans--new and old--an opportunity to get to know its members better off the field"

if thats they case, why include the stuff about horse racing, anyone who follows this team is fully aware of Jake involvment with horses. And who knows if it will bring about changes at the Observer...does it hurt for the customer to offer constructive and factual criticism? Does it hurt to ask the staff to consider questions from the fans to ask the players? No....its okay to criticize the staff Proc...you dont have to act as the press secretary

Posted by: matt | Jul 9, 2008 9:22:03 PM

iamhubby...you are 100% right on all counts.
:)

To all who are complaining about the lack of football questions...it is called a PERSONALITY interview...ergo, the questions are specifically geared so as NOT to be football related I would think. I like the idea of these pieces myself.

And Stan...thank you so much for NOT asking him about that dreadful ego on legs...Favre, who just takes for granted based on what his agent is supposed to have said that he will waltz in there and just be the starter. UGH. Never has a player been so beloved for so long for no reason (Ronnie Mexico is a close second).

Posted by: DD | Jul 10, 2008 2:10:52 AM

But Matt, you have to understand as well as realize that the "Proctologist" is a wanna be.

Thats it,Ive said it in the past and I will say it again, the "Proctologist" just wants to get a job for the observer, but is way to SCARED to go down to the office and fill out an application for employment.

He runs his mouth on this blogs,as well as the message board and talks about poadcast, blah blah, blah, etc, etc , etc.

He's nothing more than a want to be trying to make a name for himself by searching every single website for Panthers news/ Panthers statistics to try and make himself look good.

Its honestly that simple.

Now give me my job Observer.

G.O.S
