A muddy situation at receiver

It's going to be pretty interesting to see how things at the receiver position work out over the next few weeks. With all the injuries -- and Steve Smith's suspension -- coach John Fox has a lot to juggle before the regular-season opener in San Diego at a spot where the Panthers had hoped they'd have a lot of depth.

Smith will likely start Saturday against Washington, but Fox said he didn't know if Muhsin Muhammad would play after hurting his ribs last week against the Eagles. So look for Dwayne Jarrett or Jason Carter to start and get lots of PT if that's the case.

But looking ahead to the Chargers game, which will be the first of Smith's two-game suspension...

With D.J. Hackett and Ryne Robinson still hurt, is there any chance they'd be ready to start (let alone even play) on the opposite side of Moose? Fox is being tight-lipped about the severity of their injuries. Anyway, it makes these next two exhibitions really important for Jarrett and Carter.

That's exactly what we need to find out, and now. The acid test for Jarrett and Carter. Rest everybody else. We know what Moose, D.J., and Steve can do. This lets us look closely at who the 4th receiver will be.

Smells like we will be checking the waiver wire....wonder if Proehl could come out of retirement?

What about Joen Horn? Does he have job yet? He might have a couple of games left in him and he is from Fayetteville. Charlotte would be a good place for him to finish out his career.

It is my belief that Jarrett will step up.
He Has Too!
His time is now and I think he knows that his oppartunity is knocking!

On the other hand, If Jarrett and Carter don't step up (I believe that they will)
Then to defeat the Panthers, Just Hit Moose or Steve high in the helmit, give em a concussion, let the visiting team take the fine for the guilty the way the PATRIOTS did for Bellicheat and the Panthers are cut off at the knees for the Playoffs in 2008 and then say GOODBYE to FOX and HURNEY and HELLO to COWER and then a two or three year cycle before the PANTHERS go back to being a PLAYOFF contender- 2013 or 2014?

Naa, Jarrett steps up beginning SATURDAY night vs, the REDSKINS and the PANTHERS have a PLAYACTION PASS this year and into the PLAYOFFS! hows that?

This NFL thingy sure is funny. A month ago, we thought the WR corp was a position of strength. That we could sail through Smittys suspension. Now we are worrying whether we will be starting Jarrett and Carter.

Foxy said the other day that he expects almost everyone back by Mon. Which would give them 2 full weeks of practice to get it together. They must feel good about it, cuz they don't seem to be openly courting any other WRs.

It sure would be nice to know the extent of the injuries we are facing. If this were the real, and not pre, season, would these guys play? Mooses ribs can be probmatic, but guys can play through rib bruises. Hacketts toe, maybe they are being cautious or else it's a problem. Rynes knee, knees scare me.

Either this is just Foxy being overly cautious, or we could actually be in trouble. Until Foxy starts confiding in me, I guess I will remain in the dark.

Sorry for the rant. GO CATS! and JAKE!

Hey MikePhelan, sure hope you are right about Jarrett and Carter. We truly need for both of them to step up. The whole team benefits if Jarrett and/or Carter do catch on.

Best case scenario. Jarrett and/or Carter step up, and our Offense rolls. Which in turn allows our Defense to stay fresh. Which in turn allows the Panthers to push for a Conference Title and a Playoff Berth.

Worse case scenarion. Our WR corp falls apart, and our Offense struggles. Which in turn strains the Defense. Which in turn watches the Panthers struggle to even make the playoffs.

Just a thought, GO CATS! and JAKE!

What's up with Koren Robinson. He couls solve punt return and receiver problems. He's worth a shot, I think his problems are behind him.

They should not have passed up Sidney Rice for Jarret. Rice is going to have a great career in Minnisota and is already a beast. I bet they wish they could do that one over agian. I know I do!!!!

Chuck the Panthers didn't pass up Sidney Rice, the Vikings picked him right before the pick we used on Jarrett. I guess we could have used the Kalil pick on Rice and hoped Kalil was still there later, but technically we didn't pick Jarrett over Rice since Rice was picked first. I do like Rice better though and wish we had gotten him...

Why worry about WRs - we are going to be a pwer running team remember. Just line up the TEs and run it up the middle for 3 yard gains. GIVE ME A BREAK!

Joe Horn is GARBAGE. If he couldn't get run over Laurent Robinson and Harry Douglas, he ain't gonna be able to come in here and do anything. Also, awesome caps lock, MikePhelan...it's obnoxious and just makes you look dumb, but don't worry about it.

Yes...Sidney Rice, what a beast. He wasn't even as good as Bobby freaking Wade, but don't let that worry you.

And I believe that Robinson could well be back for Week 1 if he gets back to practice on Monday like Fox said he could, but I think we'll be doing very well to see Hackett in more than three consecutive games or so this year. He's just not mentally tough enough to fight through the dings that are a part of being an NFL player.

the panthers had better go into s.d and chi with the idea of throwing a lot to the tight ends.rosario looks like the real deal.at least they wont have to deal with merriman.they better get travis taylor in the mix too. hes an old pro and can help out in the first two games.
