Fight erupts between Panthers' Smith, Lucas
SPARTANBURG - There was an altercation on the field at this morning's practice between receiver Steve Smith and cornerback Ken Lucas, and Lucas was later carted off the field by the team's training staff.
A fight broke out on the sideline, and a crowd of players converged on the scene. Smith was pulled away from the scene by linebacker Jon Beason.
Lucas was taken to a tent, where he held an ice pack over his face for several minutes.
Smith was escorted to the tent by receiver Muhsin Muhammad. Smith approached Lucas to check his condition.
Smith later talked extensively with kicker John Kasey.
Eventually, Lucas was carted off the field. Photos taken by the Observer showed he had an ice pack over his left eye.
As of this posting, practice was still ongoing and coach John Fox was not available for comment.

Every team always has fights in Training Camp every year. I wouldn't read to much into this one because Smith walked back to the tent where Lucas was and made sure he was ok. Although Lucas did suffer a cut to his eye hence the ice pack so I just hope it doesn't affect his vision. Smith must have one hell of a jab.

Are you serious? Smith is at it again. I thought he had grown up some...obviously no one knows what happened, but there is no excuse for fist fighting amongst teammates.

JV hit it on the head, so to speak. Smitty must have some mustard on those punches.

It happens dude. Calm down. They will be back to normal in a couple of days.

Smitty could have a great post football career as an ultimate fighter. This fight is no big deal. It is hot and the guys are all competitors. The defensive backs will learn some day not to mess with my man Smitty.

Heat + humidity + competition + childish trash talking = fighting.
I wouldn't read to much into this. Just egotistical pro athletes being immature.

Why is everyone assuming that Steve Smith started the fight? Just because he was in a fight a few years ago does not mean that he was the instigator in this situation. (And by the way ridiculous is not spelled with an "e").

On a different note, it's nice to see another example of how the pen is mightier than the sword...
For those of you who got vocal about the billboards and the lousy adds, THANK YOU! It's nice to see that corporate America can be somewhat tamed with threats of boycotting. Hopefully, they will do something about the adds as well.
